We took a day trip to Round Top, TX to attend the Spring Antique Festival, the largest of its kind in the country that stretches over four towns. Lulu's Round Top, listed as an Italian Restaurant. Lulu's is one of the only white tablecloth establishments in town and we expected the best. We were told, the building was an old vineyard, and they have a wine cellar in the basement with several tables. We rate the Decor and Service - 5*. We ordered: The Bread Service is ample, Focaccia bread topped with cinnamon sugar? - 4* Calamari Frito - 5*. Chicken Marsella - a bit dry - 2*. Paradelle Bolognese- Black Angus Beef Tips, more like ground beef - 1*. The "cud degras" was the wine order. We ordered from the wine list, a bottle of Tribute Cabernet Sauvignon. Shortley thereafter we were advised; non-available, but they would offer a better wine at the same price. Bottle of GROUNDED by Josh Phelps v. 2021 was presented for $60.00. After checking with Total Wine & More we discovered they do not carry this bottle. Found a bottle of v. 2020 at Target for $14.99. Can this be correct? read more

Absolutely phenomenal ambiance . Except the portion size was that of a death row inmate. I received a large tablespoon side of mash potatoes and sautéed spinach. If you weigh over 150 ask for double. We were in the bar. The ambience is wonderful but our food, not so much. We ordered the calamari which tasted really odd - it's like sugar was added to it. They were going for a different vibe I think. We then asked for some marinara sauce which usually comes with calamari. We were actually charged for the "side" of marinara sauce. We also had the meatballs with polenta and they were good. My friend ordered a chocolate martini and I mentioned to her that the drinks often have little alcohol, if any at all. She agreed. Please READ and BEWARE! Lulu's only gets "1 Star" because of Sammy(The Bar Manager) and the Management's awful service. I would give all the wait staff and the kitchen staff a great review, but horrid, repeated service by Sammy and Management trumps the food quality and service. I had a pop-up shop across the street from Lulu's from October 2022 through April 2023. My Shop was open Wednesday through Sunday, including the Fall, January, and Spring Shows. I tried to give Lulu's a chance, but each visit worsened. During the Fall show, sitting at the bar, the bartender took our drink order. After reaching out repeatedly to continue ordering and placing our kitchen order, the kitchen had closed. It was a great birthday dinner. Second Chance, my husband and friend's bar tab was overcharged for four drinks. The management fought them but finally corrected the check. The Third and LAST chance, Sammy, the bar manager, was waiting on our bartop. He picked up my cocktail half full. Everyone at our table and next tried to get his attention. Sammy walked around to the following table, and with me and my party looking at him, he grabbed the straws from the cocktails he just picked up, stuck them in my cocktail, then brought my glass and placed the drink back in front of me. At least eight people witnessed this. Sammy delivered our check and overcharged several cocktails/wine. We went to the manager, and other customers who saw Sammy do this also went to the manager. The manager even came to the table after we left and asked if this happened. The manager did nothing. He paid for nothing! The next day, a customer shared the same overcharged experience from the week prior. I have continued to hear more and more of these complaints. Lulu does not support the locals. He brings a crew in daily from Houston. Again the wait staff and kitchen staff were my only positive experiences with the restaurant. read more

We came there all from out of town to meet in the middle for a nice birthday celebration of 2 family members. Our waitress was such a drain on our experience. She couldn't make certain slight changes, she wouldn't split our bill, she didn't make a drink with the right ingredients, she couldn't garnish our drinks without making it seem like a huge undertaking and adding an up charge. We made multiple attempts to lighten her mood so that we could enjoy the experience. If she had something else going on in her personal or professional world the manager should have taken care of this before having her on the floor. Venue beautiful. Food was good. Drinks sucked. This was the 3rd time eating at Lulu's. I will say the first two times we had issues with food service and not always wait staffs fault. Yesterday was terrible. My drink was horrible. I ordered a Cosmopolitan and whoever made it did not have cranberry juice at the bar and was too lazy to go get it from the other bar, so he just put something in it that was red! UGH! The food came out and everyones meal was cold! Some sent it back and some just dealt with it. Charging for bread is ridiculous, and we did not even ask for it! Would not split up the check...too lazy. The restaurant was not busy. Maybe 3 tables and our group. It seemed like when we got up, everyone was hiding and afraid we were going to complain. The salmon was very bland and when my friend asked for some capers we were charged $3.50 for capers and $1.50 for marinara sauce (don't know why marinara charge?) and ice tea was $5.00 a glass. I had sea bass which was tasty but came with only a very thin bed of spinach underneath. We are small people who don't eat large portions but went away feeling hungry I would not recommend this overpriced restaurant which does not have the quality of food to charge such prices. Two words: giant meatball. And let me tell you...this meatball is not only huge, but also delicious! And the pomodoro sauce that accompanies it is so, so good, too. Everything had tons of flavor and the prices were very reasonable. The space is beautiful and simple but can get a bit loud (in the upstairs dining room) during the dinner rush. The only reason that I did not give a 5-star rating was due to the service and the noise. It took quite awhile for us to get water for the table as well as the cocktails that we ordered and we struggled to carry on normal conversation at our table due to the noise. A plain snapper fillet... $42? It did have a nice asparagus side but bread was another $5. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine but definitely one of the least expensive reds. Extremely disappointing customer service from the manager at LuLu's. I left my sunglasses and called the following day to confirm they have them, which they did. I travel for work and told them I'd be in when I could... the following week I called to confirm once more that they had them -- "We put them in the safe." This week I called as I finally had time to revisit the area and all of sudden, they've disappeared. "I'm sorry we don't have them, I was confused," was the managers response. How?? How is a confirmation confusing?? Why is it that when I requested the managers name he hung up on me, twice! I'm completely taken back as Round Top is a wonderful place to visit... this establishment, particularly the manager, has unfortunately tarnished it for me a bit. It's not even about the sunglasses at this point, but the mere way this establishment blatantly lied and refused to make it right. read more

Gorgeous with good energy. The staff was just awesome! Fabian and Ramone who served us at the bar were knowledgeable & passionate about wine. They did not steer us wrong. The ambiance in this place is nice. It is very loud to talk and hear what people r saying though. Even the waitress was a low talker. Very overpriced food that was nit really Italian. (I am Sicilian) some of us ordered the bolognese. There was literally about 8 little tiny pieces of meat in the entire bowl. It was also bland. We had to pay for bread! Absurd! Bread was very good though. Had the Burrata and it was very good and was 22.00. My husband ordered the short rib but it came with Polenta and he does not like Polenta so asked to sub Risotto, which was on the menu. The waitress said it would cost the price of another meal which would have been 75.00! What the heck. Never had water refilled. Ordered Tiramisu which is my fave and it was lady fingers with cream filling. Totally not it! I did not eat it and I told the waitress I did not like it. She did nothing. All in all, being Italian, I would never recommend this place and they should be ashamed at the prices and non-Italian food they are serving. We visited round top expecting a cute little one stop town and we were floored to find one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever visited. From start to finish the experience was impeccable. We were greeted at the host stand by Lulu (the proprietor/owner of this restaurant and the two sister restaurants in town Mandito's Mexican and Popi Burger). All of the servers and staff were wearing masks in observation of our state's Covid policies and seating was spread out to minimize risk. Vivian, our server had an exemplary knowledge of the wine list (and made some great recommendations) as well as the menu and the night's specials. Not pictured with this review are the Tiramisu and Creme Brûlée we had with this meal or the mussels and andouille sausage, the duck pate, the lobster ravioli, and the epic lamb that we had when we went back the next night. Ramon, our server in night two, encouraged us to take a few chances on some things with the guarantee that "if we didn't like it he'd eat it for us." He was not wrong once. We had a wonderful meal and wonderful service! The head staff however, RUDE, in particular, Victoria (I believe is her name) was terribly snooty. I can go to any restaurant in Houston I wish; but she acted as if I meant nothing to their business! Seems a bit "off" for Round Top? I had requested a special seating for a birthday celebration, but the restaurant got the date wrong so we were seated in a different location, and I believe they did this on purpose. We did not complain or "make a scene" as that is not our style. Maybe being a nice compliant customer is not the way to go! We spoke to the management after dinner and got "send us an email" response! Sorry! You are a gem in Round Too for sure, but there are other great places to go around there now!! Will not go here. Lulu's was such a wonderful surprise location for our family dinner tonight. A diamond in the rough, this quaint Tuscan-style restaurant serves quality higher-class food in an otherwise seemingly banjo-plucking town. Every member of the staff are all very professional and strive their absolute best to ensure orders arrive on time, are cooked to the best standard possible, and customers are more than satisfied. The menu is very tasteful, featuring sophisticated dishes that appeal to the refined pallet, but also are simple enough to encourage the average diner to expand their taste. The Salmon was cooked to absolute perfection, the short rib was tender and savory! My only complaint would be the side dishes; Lulu's tries hard to please with decorative sides, but tonight these works of art proved to be a bit dysfunctional. Overall, Lulu's is a wonderful destination for foodies and friends to bond over a finely furnished table and enjoy a memorable evening. I for one will surely be returning soon! read more
