Combo 2: Half Chicken, Rice Collard & Greens

Consistently delicious moist chicken. The sides are a hit or miss for me, but I love the cornbread. The cornbread is dense with pieces of corn in it. It's different, but good.

*This review is based on an Uber Eats Order* Delivery- 5/5 Although you order through Uber Eats, someone from Lula Bird will deliver your order. They will text you from their system to let you know the order has been received. You also get text updates when the driver is on the way and have the option to track your delivery on a map. Food- 5/5 Someone recommended this place to me and I tried it awhile back. So happy I randomly decided to order from them again tonight! I ordered the half chicken and short ribs combos. Each order came with a piece of cornbread, two sides and a dipping sauce. For sides I got quinoa, roasted potatoes , butternut squash (Saturday Special) and the Black Beans and Kale (Saturday Special). Everything was delicious. The chicken was moist, nicely seasoned and had a nice crispy skin. The short rib was tender and wasn't fatty. Once you add the spicy green dipping sauce, your mouth will do a happy dance. The quinoa and black beans w/ kale were my favorite sides. Some of their sides rotate throughout the week so be mindful of that when you are ordering. They do a good job at indicating which sides are available on which day on Uber Eats. I'm not a fan of everyone's cornbread but this one is good and has whole corn inside! My cornbread was a little overcooked for my liking but other than that I have no complaints. If you're looking for a healthier option to try when ordering out I would recommend checking them out. Adding to my list of places to try in person.

Lula Bird is like another reviewer mentioned, just okay. I have tried them a handful of times to properly assess and these are my takeaways. The rotisserie chicken isn't particularly spiced well and the portion is tiny for the price point AND because they play 'roulette' with the side offerings, you have to know when the items that you would like to have paired with the order will be available. Often times there is one side you would like to try, but it isn't the right day and is thus not available. I have tried their mac and cheese (avail on Sun. & Tues.) , which I didn't find to be very good. Mac & Cheese is such a controversial dish in it's own right, but their's seems to be roux based and the taste of flour was too prominent. and I was missing the cheese all together. It also had toasted breadcrumbs on top, which would have been fine, but it tasted like they just toasted the breadcrumbs and the actually mac and cheese below wasn't part of the baking process. I appreciate that their collard greens are not super vinegar forward, something lots of places get wrong, but it wasn't anything to write home about. The latter can also be said of the brussel sprouts, which actually used to be better in the past but have since changed. I love eggplant and decided to try it since it was available the day of ordering. I called the restaurant to inquire how it was prepared and a simple question like that could not be answered by the employee who answered the phone, nor the chef that he handed the phone off too. Despite the eggplant being described as being prepared in a 'szechuan' style, the szechuan eggplant didn't give any element of spice and was so disgustingly mushy that it went in the trash. Most ppl mess up eggplant because they don't realize that it is a water springing vegetable that requires a bit of a salt brine to take out some of that moisture. Their rice is also nothing special. It was a bit overcooked and consists of onion and tomato, the latter a wet ingredient that added a bit to the mush. It reminds me a bit on how Thai fried rices are also prepared. The real star of the show are their roasted potatoes. They are salted, spiced and roasted to perfection. I have no notes. The cornbread is also an item that may cause some controversy. I like it enough. A bit bland, so I usually pop some butter on it and melt it since it always seems to be lacking a bit of salt. For those who prefer a less dense take on this southern side OR do no like corn in their cornbread, this version is not for you. I have also had their tiramisu. The flavor is good and I can tell that lady fingers have been soaked properly to evoke the coffee flavor intended, but unfortunately the ratio of lady fingers to marscapone is way off, so the dessert is unbalanced and consists of mostly the creme. They are not close by so I ate the $5 delivery fee plus other upcharges, but I find no reason to do so anymore given my experience and this food case study wrap up.

Quarter chicken, greens and spicy brussels sprouts

I ordered from Doordash and this food was a huge disappointment. The mac and cheese should be called macaroni and breadcrumbs because there was hardly any cheese. It was a large serving of flavorless pasta. The cornbread has the texture of corn pudding/bread pudding, which I usually like. But I received a burned inedible end piece. That got tossed in the trash with the mac and breadcrumbs. The meal was served in a cardboard container so it all was a soggy mess. Yuk! The brussels sprouts was the best thing I ordered. The dark piece of chicken was small and mostly bone. Maybe it was an off night but I'm thoroughly uninspired to eat here again. I'm so glad I had a discount because it was not worth $40 and I was still hungry afterwards because I barely ate the meal.

Combo 2--half chicken. With 2 sides

Thanks to Doordash, I was able to try the "best Rotisserie chicken in Brooklyn" known as Lula Bird. It has been several years since I eliminated eating red meat, but I do enjoy chicken, especially Rotisserie style. After reading all the positive reviews on Yelp, I knew I had to try it. After all, who doesn't like chicken with 2 sides and cornbread!?!?! The Doordash process, preparation, timeliness and delivery of the order was excellent. I decided to go with the combo #2 which was half chicken with 2 sides and cornbread. In addition to the permanent sides, there were also daily ones to choose from. Lastly, a choice of 4 dipping sauces: Harissa, Peruvian, Peanut and Tzastziki. My order was the half chicken, garlic roasted potatoes, butternut squash (Saturday special) with cornbread. Sauce--Harissa and Peruvian. An extra sauce is just $0.75. It arrived promptly, well packed ( environmental friendly containers) and warm. The delivery person was also very courteous. When I opened the carton, the portion size ($19) was generous and the aroma was prominent /fragrant. Verdict? I thought it was really good but also quite salty. If the salt level was taken down a few notches, it would have been perfect. I really enjoyed the sides and the chicken was cooked just right. And although I'm all about herbs and spices, I think there was a bit too much on the chicken overall. The cornbread was delicious--buttery and moist. And I loved the dipping sauces! Overall, it was good comfort food--just wish it were less seasoned.

Combo 2 with collard greens and roasted root vegetables

Everything at Lula Bird from the speed of delivery to the quality of the food deserves 5 stars! I ordered the combo #2 with an extra side of cornbread. My food arrived in 20 minutes, which was a pleasant surprise. This typically never happens with takeout, but I guess DoorDash was on my side! The chicken was well seasoned, had crispy skin, and great flavor! I choose the Peruvian green sauce which compliments the chicken very well. The cornbread was the star of the show! It was moist and buttery and warm. I ended up ordering extra, which I'm glad I did! Overall the food here is great quality! I'll definitely be adding this to my rotation of places for takeout!

I've been watching this place for a while. The pictures on yelp doesn't do this place any justice. I am a Brussels sprouts fanatic and this place came all the way through. It was soooooo good. Unfortunately they only have it available on Tuesdays under UBEREATS. Im not sure in the store. I had the dark meat quarter chicken and that with the green sauce was crack! It was very well seasoned and full with flavor. Now the cornbread was a surprise. I mean my yelpers put me on to it before had but I wasn't ready. It was different in a great way. The only disappointment was the mac n cheese. I'm accustomed to my west Indian mac pie and I'm ok with southern mac n cheese but theirs lacked alot. Either way it wasn't terrible. It just wasn't great. Lula you get 2 thumbs up.

The food: Roast Pork Special- Fried Eggplant, Provolone, Broccoli Rob- The texture of the pork came off a bit dry, the eggplant was good but kinda gets lost in the sandwich so if I literally had it on it's own I would have appreciated it more but who eats fried eggplant by itself? The rob was nice it added a nice crunch but didn't offer that much flavor. Giuseppe Special- Eggplant parm, meatballs, melted mozzarella. I couldn't get over how soggy the bread was. It was like wet paper towel to me. Soggy bread and everything kinda tasting the same made it underwhelming. Nicky Special- It just tasted like salad in between bread. There was so much veg, that was the main thing I remember in that sandwich.

There's a cooler with drinks and salads as you enter on the right. The sandwiches, however, are something special. On my first visit I went with something familiar, the Mean Streets (their Italian sandwich). The bread itself is fantastic (locally baked), and the toppings delicious as well (if I recall correctly the dressings are house made). Pleasantly, they also give you a paper plate with your order, which is a nice touch compared to eating off a wrapper. I enjoyed the first sandwich so much I came back the next day to try the No Sleep Til Gravesend. And one of the greatest chefs I've ever had the pleasure to know. And I've known my share of cats who made their livings and their names in a kitchen. From the very first day I discovered Brancaccio's I felt a magic a connection that I knew would change my life, make my belly really f--kin' happy and set my soul a-dancin'. On that first day Joe and I talked about the great food of NY; most of it gone but not forgotten by those who were of the time. We both lamented the lose of the legendary Zito's bakery on Bleecker. I can't tell you how long it had been since I'd ran into someone who even remembered Zito's much less was intimate with the place. I knew I was home. This was well over a decade ago. I won't go into specific things on Joe's menu that are worth trying because quite literally... everything is amazing. It just is! Soul satisfying beyond my ability to do justice to. I'd also like to throw out as an example of the humanity of the joint and it's capt. Joe... Joe treats his employees with respect, R E S P E C T as Aretha belted, dignity and the aforementioned humanity which is beautiful and virtually non-existent these days as far as I can see... and you can taste it in his food. That's just a big-ass Right On! Finally I like to say two or three things: First that as I initially identified myself as "used to being a regular" as and this is by no means a boo-hoo thing simply a fact... I fell pretty ill for a while and am just now beginning my reentry into the world. And as a matter of fact during the recent drag of days for me a thought kept slamming into the walls of my head and that was that I couldn't wait to once again sink my teeth into Joe's food. Well that day is here and I'm salivating at the thought. "I'll take one of everything my man!" Secondly, understand I've never written anything like this... I'm actually down on the whole review culture. So if this sounds at all "over the top"... or written by a cousin who Joe owes money to, get that thought right out of your head. All of I said is sincere and one from the heart. And lastly an additional "oh yea baby" to Joe's taste in music.

It was pretty tasty, but I must say I wasn't as blown away as I'd expected. The sausage sandwich got a bit soggy from all of the marinara (which I wasn't expecting based on the description), so I was less excited about it. It was way too much food for two people. Like one sandwich is plenty for two, but I got greedy with wanting to try too much. We had a ton leftover! I would have probably rated it 3.5 stars, but the German roach running around pained me to see and stole my appetite.
