DO NOT COME HERE for a men's haircut. The barber I had (unfortunately forgot his name, but fortunate for him) absolutely butchered my hair. I'm too embarrassed to even post a photo. I asked for a taper fade, wanted weight around the parietal ridge, and an inch or so off the top of my hair. What I ended up getting was a complete zero on the entire sides and back of my head, with the top of my hair chopped in maniacal fashion. He KEPT MESSING UP the haircut. He started off using a 2-3 guard, but must have realized he messed up, and kept cutting more until he somehow miraculously decided that using a zero guard across the entire side and back of my hair was the only solution. Not to mention he was aggressive with the haircut itself, frequently shoving the clipper into my scalp as if he was digging for gold. He did a razor shave around my hair as well and I was genuinely concerned he was going to cut my ears off. I was in so much shock I couldn't even speak up until the damage was done. I'm in utter disbelief that this man has a license to be a barber. How did he get hired by this place? Maybe he's a jaded owner and just gets away with it? I have no clue. Not to mention, the haircut cost nearly $100. I'm not one to make a commotion so I paid the service fee. I felt like the cashier couldn't even look me in the eye because even she realized how my hair was completely butchered by this man. Please do yourself a favor and do not step into this barber shop. I live in Manhattan but find all the good salons here to be pretentious and not worth the ridiculous prices. I found Ludlow Blunt after a tireless google search of hair salons within the 5 boroughs. I trekked down to Williamsburg from the Upper East Side and it was worth it. The salon is beautifully decorated and so clean. I love the 1800s barbershop aesthetic and it's so charming. Everyone encountered at the salon was friendly and professional. I booked my appointment based on time and not by stylist so I had no idea who I would be getting. I wound up having Rami as my stylist. He is amazing, detailed and a master at his job. He took my grown out, frazzled ombré hair and restored it back to its nice, shiny, dark brown color, as close to my natural color as possible. He was personable and knew what to do without much direction. I told him I just wanted to go back to my original color and showed him my roots. From there, he worked his magic. The woman who washed my hair (wish I remember her name) was so friendly as well. We had a great conversation while my head was in the sink, haha. The prices are very reasonable for NY. You are also getting impeccable service. I think my cut and single process color were around $225 or so, and worth every dime. I felt confident handing over all of that money upon completion of my color and cut. While this salon is definitely out of my way, it is now my go-to. I don't mind making the journey down there, even if it includes taking the L train. I know I am in good hands with Rami and the entire staff at Ludlow Blunt. When the L train shuts down next year, I guess I will be taking a cab down to the salon. 100% worth it. Please try this place out and you won't regret it. read more

I had a phenomenal experience and outcome at this salon. The customer service was unparalleled. I got lost on my way in (on crutches) and they came out a block to greet me and make sure I didn't have to hobble through gravel. They were extremely accommodating when I was late and still greeted me with a smile and a glass of Prosecco. Jacky was my stylist and she is an angel on this earth! I got partial highlights and requested an icy look but with no toner and Jacky delivered! She was talented and so kind. Even accommodated me when I had to take a work call. 10/10 experience. I came here 5 years ago when I made a big transition from red to blonde and had a wonderful experience then too. The icing on the cake was the salon dog, a beautiful and loving Great Dane. I reviewed this Salon in 2018 because my husband started going there. I wanted to update my review because I have started getting my hair cut and colored there. I moved to NY early in 2018 and needed to find a salon to get my hair done. I've been going to the two same cut & colorists for years so I was concerned about wether I could find a place in NY that was both fantastic and affordable. I called Ludlow and told them I'm a natural blonde thats been dying her hair red for many years and did they have any suggestions of stylists. The front desk woman was wonderful and suggested I go to Rami because he has a lot of experience with reds. I just told him to pick a good red shade for me. I loved the red he choose and how my hair looked. I got non stop compliments on it for weeks. It also didn't fade as fast as it always has! Then a few weeks later he cut my hair. Just a trim since I'm growing it out and that was great too! He's also a lot of fun to hang out with. I always look forward to our visits. All around amazing experience! Go check it out! And leave a huge tip. ;) My Original Review: My husband started getting his hair cut here at the suggestion of his old hairstylist in Atlanta. This Williamsburg salon is beautifully styled like a Barber Shop from the late 1800's. Old sterilization machines, vintage apothecary bottles, daguerreotypes adorn its walls and cases. This is the Williamsburg extension of the Lower East Side salon that also received a 5-star review from me. There's not all that much to say other than that this is the perfect hair salon and I wouldn't even consider going anywhere else. Russell is the best. You should expect to pay $75 (men) or $95 (women) and tip well, because these people put a lot of care into making you look good. I've read a few reviews on the LES salon complaining of the high price tag, so a few comments on that: - New York City. I really need to say more? - This is going to be a better stylist than you'd have for $500 in a classless Midtown Manhattan salon. - Have a beer on the house while you sit, so you can count that in your price calculation. - Skipping a few Starbucks lattes a month to upgrade from your Supercuts buzz to something a little more fashion conscious is more than worth it. A guy only needs to come in every month, or less, and you're paying to make a good first impression on people. This place is all-around amazing. First up, most importantly: the stylists & barbers are top-notch. I see Rami Freji, and it's legitimately inspiring how passionate and naturally talented he is at his craft. I have a purple/pink ombré do with tape-in extensions and I honestly wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. I'm just the slightest bit neurotic and when it comes to my appearance I like to know how things are going to come out when they're finished, but while Rami will make whatever style you ask for work for you, I always look my best when I give him just a bit of loose inspiration and let him do his magic. I've been coming here for over 3 years and my style hasn't stayed the same for one, but I've never considered not coming to Rami. By the way Ludlow just opened their second location--in Japan--and Rami is the stylist they send over every few months to teach rooms full of stylists. Otherwise the salon is totally one-of-a-kind. It's authentically modeled after a late-19th-/early 20th-century barbershop, complete with its own line of haircare products packaged with the same aesthetic. They even offer old-school style hot shaves. Honestly I would be shocked to learn of another salon in NYC that you could get a higher-quality cut or style at whether you want something classic or edgy, and definitely not with anything close to this atmosphere. read more

Absolutely gorgeous haircut. This review is about the INEQUITABLE PRICING BASED ON GENDER. THIS IS 2019. I sent this email over a month ago and received no reply. Here goes: Hi there, I hope you're having a great day. I visited your barbershop for the first-time last month and had a wonderful customer service experience and great cut. However, I was surprised by your gendered pricing structure, which is still categorized by "MEN" and "WOMEN". I understand that longer hair, traditionally women's hair, usually equates to a longer service because it requires a more extensive cut or a gorgeous blowout. I am in agreement that the more intricate the service or experienced the stylist, the price should reflect that. However, as a woman with very short hair, I paid $30 more (not factoring in a higher tip %) simply because of the gendered pricing structure. I noticed that the man who sat next to me, with longer hair, paid less for the same service. Now I know you're a progressive shop so I'm sure you all didn't realize that this pricing structure was ultimately inequitable as I presume you have clients who don't identify as cis-gender. I'm asking that your pricing structure be changed to hair length rather than gender for the sake of inclusivity, equity and equality. Rami Freiji is the best stylist and colorist I've ever had. After bouncing around at a few different salons to varying degrees of disappointment, I found Rami at Ludlow Blunt and never looked back. I can show him pictures of wildly different colors and cuts and he synthesizes them into the exact cut and color I'm wanting. His intuition and skill are unmatched. With Rami, I've moved from being blonde, natural red, strawberry, rose gold, brunette, purple, and pink. People have come to know me as someone who changes my hair drastically every three months, all thanks to Rami. Each look is better than the last. He brings all of my hair ideas to life and makes them better than I could have anticipated. I trust him completely when I am in the salon chair. Terrible beard trim. Owner took no care in what he was doing. Seemingly nice person. Lazy effort. Seemed generally uninterested in his craft or doing a quality job. This is surprising given the huge hit salons/barbers have taken during covid. There was no apparent rush. Only One other person in the whole place. Not sure why this guy chose to be in this business if he does not care to do a careful job. He would never accept this type of unconscientious work were it his beard being trimmed. $25 is not cheap. The work was quick and sloppy. I looked in the mirror closely the next day, which is why I am taking the time to write this review. Only the 2nd review I have ever felt compelled to write. It is all f'd up. Uneven. Too short in one area. Missed spots in others. And I waited for my beard to grow for months before I got it trimmed. Now this. So discouraging. So disappointing. Can someone recommend a barber who knows how to trim a beard (and cares to take the time to do it right)? Found out the hard way that you cannot trust reviews or how a place looks. Soooo wish I could have a do over. Too late. In sum, Don't go here if you care about how your beard trim turns out. Should have just waited til I found someone with a great beard and asked them where they get it trimmed. So frustrating. So pissed. Wasted $25. I hate writing a bad review. But it's just not right what he did. So pissed off about it that I hope no one ever goes to this place ever again. They do not deserve your business. I knew if they could pull that off they were the one for my Leo self! They told me it was Russel that did it! Later I saw, Daren, Derek, and now I see Rami! Just anyone here is great. I love catching up with Rami - and recently really needed to [queer] my cut in the way of Vidal Sassoon w a creative cut. Rami took good care and it was so! Ok, let's start with how cool this place is. You walk in and feel like you're stepping back in time, BUT the colors and cuts that come out of this place are anything but dated. As to me specifically, anyone who has dyed red hair can empathize with me having dealt with fading and oxidization. I used to go to Supercuts because I'm a cheap mofo who thought anyone could cut hair. Boy, was I wrong. Started going to Ludlow Blunt because my husband -- who has 15 cowlicks on his head and unfortunately can't rely on the $12 barber cut -- swears by the stylists there. Saw Rami for the first time ever for a very dramatic cut (I came in with long, straight hair that came down to the middle of my back and chopped off at least 6 inches). He was genuinely excited to work his magic instead of doing a usual trim -- and holy crap, did he ever. He gave me the cut of my life, the best haircut I've ever gotten. The dream of the 1890s is alive at Tommy Guns (aesthetically anyway). It's not just retail-bought nostalgia either as a lot of the decor is either commissioned or meticulously restored. Russell is the only person in these five boroughs who I've come to trust with my hair over the last two years. He's consistent, versatile, knowledgable and very experienced. I can usually book an appointment with one or two days notice too which is helpful if you're a last-minute type. I often see a couple ladies in there for styling too so it's definitely a salon and not exclusively geared towards a gender. They also sell a good bit of care products that they're very knowledgable about if you need some stuff. Leave a good tip! read more

I went here based on a friends recommendation. The salon had a great aesthetic and the service was good, if not slightly overpriced. One thing however turned me off completely though. I booked a haircut with Rami based on the reviews here. He did a good job and later I saw that he posted a photo of the results on instagram. However he claimed credit for both the cut and my hair color with many hashtags related to the color treatment and process used. Now this is surprising since I had gotten my color done at a different salon 8 months ago. He even asked me where I got it done and complimented it. I originally came to her with fading/growing out auburn color (that I dyed myself :)) and she turned it into a beautiful chocolate to Carmel ombré that looked totally natural and extremely healthy. It was pretty basic- not a really customized beard trim. The sign said $15 but the cost was actually $26.50 a weird amount....and we couldn't take pics inside the building. My partner has been getting his hair cut and colored at Ludlow Blunt for years, so when we decided to have our wedding at a venue in Williamsburg, it made sense that we ask if Ludlow Blunt could accommodate me and a few female friends/relatives for hair styling that morning. There were a few frustrating snafus at the beginning. I have challengingly fine hair, which I was upfront about, and it took multiple trials and a switch of stylists to get things right. The first stylist had made it sound like she'd be able to do the style I asked for, but when my hair would not cooperate, she grew frustrated and I was eventually passed to a different stylist, Rami, who did a great job. This wouldn't have been a problem, except the stylist was pretty rude to me whenever I went into the salon for subsequent hair trials, and was even rude on the day of my actual wedding, as she styled my cousin's hair. Though it took multiple hair trials to figure things out, the owner, Laura, was really wonderful. She knew it was a frustrating experience for me and for the stylists, so she did a great job keeping everyone happy and in good communication throughout the process. On the day of my wedding, my cousin and her three daughters were a full hour late, and I wouldn't have expected LB to accommodate them, but they were able to move some things around to get their hair done anyway, which was really great. Also, everyone's hair turned out wonderful in the end, so while there were moments along the way that weren't perfect, I was happy with everything overall. My only real complaint is the stylist who couldn't be mature and professional enough to even say hello back to me when working at the chair next to where I was sitting... despite the fact that she's cut my partner's hair for five years! read more
