My "hey Jude" cocktail was a refreshing starter on a hot mid day. The lobster salad sandwich which came with a salad was very good. Najar was waiter and bartender and was most helpful in deciding what we wanted. They apparently opened 3 months ago however the overhead canopies were not in use to provide shade on the outside deck. We were initially drawn there because of the outdoor sky and yes...ocean view but moved inside as it was too sunny. Would enjoy the deck with canopy for shade.

husband and I came in for the Neptune festival weekend. This is the second time we've eaten at bar. I have absolutely no complaints. The staff is amazing. The food is off the chain in my opinion and I would definitely recommend this nice cozy place upstairs if you ever decide to visit Virginia Beach.

Hands down the best happy hour in the city. I'd argue it's probably the best restaurant too. The…read moreraw oysters are killer, as are the cocktails. The best thing they ever did was to bring the short rib back! I recommend this place to literally anyone who asks for a rec. Be prepared for a wait unless you get to HH early on a random weekday.

I think this time was even better! We arrived around 230 on a Saturday, lucky for us happy hour started at 3 and we had a 30 minute wait for 6 people. Literally perfect timing because no one was waiting before us and about 10-20 minutes later the waiting area became packed for that 3 o clock happy hour. Side note: happy hour is from 3-7, 7 days a week! The service was phenomenal, the whole staff was so nice and accommodating. While we waited for our table, we were able to order a cocktail from one of the waitresses. We also had a baby with a stroller and they made sure we had plenty of room once we were seated at our table. The food was amazing, I'm a fan of cooked oyster but i decided to be a little spontaneous and try them raw. I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and clean tasting these oysters were. It reminded me of eating sashimi. My wife and father in law had the lobster rolls, they both loved them! My son had the double cheeseburger from the happy hour menu, literally cannot beat this deal. $6 double cheeseburger with fries on the boardwalk is unimaginable lol. I had the Nashville hot chicken, which was good but maybe could've used a little more flavor. But the quality of the sandwich as a whole was spot on. I really don't have any complaints, this was the highlight of our day. My in laws live in Wisconsin but they travel a bunch and they said that these oysters were some of the best they had ever had. They would never see 1$ oysters where they live, so I'm glad we were able to come here and create this memory together. If you've ever debated whether taking the trip to the strip is worth it, it is! Definitely check this place out!

We started with a few apps so I got to try the smoked fish dip, cheese with baguette and apple butter. Both were delicious, especially the fish dip. Those house pickles were delicious. I could have eaten just a bowl of those. I didn't try anything else but everyone that did was raving about how good the food was. Service was good. Sometimes a little difficult to get water. I think they even have HH in the back bar. Open kitchen. Friendly staff. Foodies would enjoy this place. Worth the check out.

First time in Virginia Beach and first time at Esoteric, couldn't have been more pleased! Went on a…read moreTuesday so it was Burger Night. Arrived around 6:30 and were able to get a table but it filled up fast. Host noted we were probably new bc Tuesdays were usually familiar faces; love to hear that locals love a place too! We ordered the Buffalo Mushrooms as a starter and let me tell you, it's worth the hype. The crunch on these things is legendary. The sauce is a little spicy but it won't blow your palate out. Also the portion is enormous. We wanted to save our appetite for our mains but just kept eating them. We got the monthly special burger which was the kimchi burger with Brussels sprouts on the side and a wagyu meatball sub with fries. Dear lord that burger! I am trying to remember another burger that I loved this much. The kimchi was cooked down into a bit of a compote which melded with the cheese and gochujang perfectly, the patties were crispy as hell! The bun added a perfect sweetness. I told the server it was "stupid". I almost cried. This can't even capture just how good the food was. I'm sorry. The Brussels sprouts were a little understated, kinda like creamed spinach at a steakhouse. They were delicious but overshadowed by other menu items. The meatballs were spicier than we expected, so if you like a spicy meatball, get after it. The best thing about the sub was the pesto sauce on top, which added a nice green brightness to what was an otherwise heavy sandwich. Good luck picking this monster up, we needed to resort to knife and fork! The fries were on point. Whoever is running the frier at Esoteric has the temp dialed in. I wish we had room for dessert but we were already bagging up most of the sub and fries. The portions here match the prices. Would love to eat outside here when it's a little warmer. If you are looking for a cute spot in the vibe, don't miss Esoteric. We for sure will be back.

[Late review. Visited September 2025]…read more We visited Virginia Beach and found Esoteric due to its good reviews online. We reserved for an early dinner and we somehow were able to order items from the happy hour menu. We ordered wings from the Happy Hour menu along with cocktails. From the regular menu, we had poutine, black garlic caesar salad, and duck tacos. The food was delicious! The duck tacos were really amazing that I wish I had more space in my stomach to eat more. The poutine was amazing along with the wings. The cocktails were not as great as we hoped. The ambiance was great - quite modern and perfect for a laid back dinner. The service was okay. I think the staff was a little distracted that day.

It is fully shaded which was nice considering we had some young kids with us. Service staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. I'd encourage them to be more targeted when describing some recommendations on the menu, she simply listed about the entire menu she asked "what are some of your favorites". Drinks were delivered very fast by the bartender. 2nd rounds were offered prior to the drinks being empty which shows good serving habits. The serving portions were very plentiful and played very well on the brunch theme! Burger was cooked medium well but still very juicy with a delicious mayo based sauce. The chicken and biscuit was juicy and the biscuit was flaky and delicious. It would have served the dish well TJ have a little more syrup. I also loved the unique hash tots. I was simply visiting from out of state so I won't return, but I'd encourage you to! They are also included on Resy so be sure to book there or use a Resy credit if you have it!
