This…read moretrip is a major, loaded down with expedition; Ram 3500 diesel truck with a camper shell, towing 6000 pounds of boat on a tandem axle trailer - tons of gear and tools inside both, plus me and two dogs. Pure fate and luck that I happened to pull over to inspect an unusual noise/vibration for the second time and I was within eyesight of Martin's shop. Unable to identify the problem, I continued another mile or two down the road, again pulling over because something was just not right. Finally it dawned on me what the trouble most likely was, since I had experienced similar symptoms once before manny years ago. I crawled underneath the truck and verified that the rear axle driveshaft center support bearing (carrier bearing) was absolutely wrecked! The 2 piece driveshaft was slamming around inside a metal hoop that was the frame around the bearing- all internal parts gone. Had I continued driving substantially, eventually the driveshaft would have failed, with result ranging from stranded on the roadside to a catastrophic accident. I need to set the scene a little bit; this location is on the Guide Meridian, a busy thoroughfare that runs from Bellingham, one of Washington's substantial cities outside of the Seattle-Tacoma area. The road goes to British Columbia, and in between is mostly rural farm land, but the road itself is scattered with various businesses and homes. But there's not much around, including choices for automotive services. I pulled a uturn and went to Martin's, just on a hunch that it was meant to be. The owner, RC, crawled under the truck and agreed with my diagnosis. This is 2:00 pm on a Thursday afternoon and the shop closes at 5:00. Within a few minutes, the parts were ordered and delivered to the shop. The owner says there's no way he can get to my vehicle due to other customers ahead of me and have it done in the same business day. But he does tell me that he will come back after hours and begin the job, and most likely the truck will be close to ready when he opens at 8 o'clock the next morning. he gave me significant confidence that I would be able to resume my journey the next day. So there I was with two dogs, all my stuff, and no place to stay. I found a hotel nearby which was suitable and the shop loaned me a car. I end up having everything I needed to be comfortable, including wonderful hospitality from the shop owner, and his wife. My plan was to call the shop at eight in the morning. But as I ate my breakfast in the hotel lobby, I decided to wait a few minutes, so it's not to appear too anxious. I happen to glance at my phone and noticed a message from RC the shop owner Had come in between 730 and eight I just had not noticed it. It indicated my truck was ready and I should come to the shop. When I got there, the truck was all set to go and backed up to my boat trailer ready to be hitched. Overnight I had looked up the likely parts cost and tried to estimate the number of hours of labor required for the job. Let's just say Martin's Automtive charges were fair and more or less what I expected. I was in a circumstance where I could've easily been taken advantage of by less than scrupulous shop. And it could have side-lined me for days instead of hours. I feel so fortunate to have stumbled upon Martin's Automotive. My experience there was 5 star-plus. I know enough about cars not to be taken advantage of but I freely admit I don't know about the Adblue system as it's too new. My leak was a pretty big problem and needed to be treated quickly before it caused catastrophic failure. They could have taken me for a ride, like the Audi dealership does, and tried to sell me or coerce me into major repairs. Well they didn't. They handled my issue on the lowest level possible for the best price. The cleaned out my system, isolated the leak and made a patch. Been driving for weeks now with no follow up issues. Not only did they give me a good repair, but they saw me that day. They understood the potential problems that the leak could balloon into and made room for me that day, and their shop was full. Business is booming and I can see why, they are just good!!! Will be going back for all my Audi repairs!

Be honest: how many mechanics have you dealt with who actually aim to reduce the cost of the service?! Alex did!! My old '99 Voyager was acting wonky; it would start but then some components would work while others wouldn't.. one day the windows operated, but the wipers or heater fan wouldn't; the next day NONE of them worked; the next day they all worked fine.. and so on and so on Got a brand new top-of-the-line Napa battery.. didn't help .. so then I had the alternator tested by 3 different places who all said it had a bad diode, so I reached out to a few companies here, got quotes, and Armstrong's was the most reasonable price (plus nearby my place) so I brought the Voyager in, crossing my fingers that some unknown -expensive- additional work wouldn't be urged on me, as I've frequently experienced with other repairs Long story short, Alex told me it actually wasn't the alternator being bad, it was the ignition switch, and I gotta be honest and say I was hugely skeptical because the other companies had advised me to get a new alternator, why would they recommend it if it wasn't the problem? ...but I decided to trust Alex, and the repair cost was literally HALF the cost of replacing the alternator (which was already a very reasonable price!) But this morning was the iron test: would everything work like it did when I picked up my vehicle? IT SURE DID --the wipers, the windows, the heater fan ALL WORKED AT THE SAME TIME!! That hasn't happened in forever! LOL This review is getting long but I wanted to share the deets because frankly, given the symptoms, the tests AND my belief in the test results... Alex could have very easily done the cheaper ignition repair but said nothing and charged for the more expensive alternator replacement that I was asking for -and I wouldn't have known the difference and would've just been happy to have things working- but he was honest and upfront and didn't take advantage of my ignorance.. like other shops around here have done or tried to do to me in the past How awesome is THAT?! So believe me when I say that everyone reading this who might be searching for a mechanic they can trust as much as they'd trust a friend to do the work (if they had the skills) .....look no further This is a good person who does good work! ~~listen to Grandma, now~~

Warning to Tesla Owners: In October, we brought our 2018 Tesla 3 in after hitting a deer and…read morebreaking the coolant system based on a Google search of certified Tesla repair shops in Whatcom County. They diagnosed the broken coolant tubes, repaired the exposed tubes and the car would not re-charge. At this point they advised us that it would need a new battery and they would advise making an insurance claim to total the vehicle. 2 months later, we were denied our claim as Rods is not a certified Tesla shop based on both the insurance company and Tesla's own recommendations. We moved the car to another certified shop in town who will not diagnose since Rod's looked at it first and they won't take the liability. In the meantime, Rods charged our insurance company for storage fees while we, not them, battled with insurance and Tesla. We are left storing the vehicle at our home while we try to find a shop willing to diagnose our vehicle and paying for a replacement vehicle out of pocket. Do not trust this company with your EV under any circumstances. We will be contacting the better business bureau as well.

Rod's found an oil leak. They actually take pictures as they are working in the vehicle so they can educate the customer. There is a video on their website and I learned that this is a family business based on HONESTY. That speaks volumes to me. They reviewed the items that the dealer completed at 30k but also recommended an additional item (something that will prevent possible future issues). Easy drop off/pick up before/after hours. Nice waiting room with snacks. Convenient location. We didn't need one but apparently they have loaner vehicles. One thing I really like is that Brittany made us feel like they will be supportive if we have any issues when we go Back to the dealer for the warranty repair issue. Very pleased with this experience!

Their vehicle was oversized. This was something that needed fixing quickly so my relatives could move on quickly as they had non refundable reservations at their final destination. I went in and spoke with Wayne - what an incredibly helpful guy. When I explained the issue to him, and the make and model of the vehicle, he knew exactly what was needed and told me he could take care of it the next day, he said he could move around some non urgent matters to take care of my relatives who were arriving that night. Basically if Wayne had wanted to, he could have ripped us off, because we were at his mercy. My relative knew how much it would probably cost based on getting information from his own mechanic and Wayne came in just under that. Wayne came through in a pinch, and did not take advantage of us. I know now why my neighbor recommended him. Wayne really knows his stuff as this was not a common thing to find and repair. He treated us way more than fairly. Highly recommended. I love it when you can talk to a mechanic and they know the issue you are talking about and do not have to plug in diagnostic tools before they can even have an idea of what could be wrong.
