I like this place, well I did. I struggled with what they deserved for stars. I decided on 3 based on the fact that there is some good. I live down the street from this place and I had been going to them for about 9 months but I stopped going months ago....I became unhappy with this place; the employees and the owner.
The location is easy to get to ( I often walked ) and there is plenty of parking. It is very spacious with 10+ manicure stations and 4+ pedicure chairs. Every time I ever went there, the place was kept very clean, including the bathroom.
Often times I wait until the last minute to get my (acrylic) nails done. I always would do an acrylic fill and a shellac manicure rather than just painted. I would call up first thing in the morning on my day off and see if there is anything at all open. Never once have I not been able to be seen in the same day.Whether they have something open in 15 minutes or 5 hours later, I am always able to get in same day.
I had been going to the same person Kim, for months. She is very good and efficient at doing nails. She would always listen to what I wanted and had everything done in a timely manner. If there was ever something I pointed out ( because I'm wicked picky) she always took care of it. Sometimes there would be minimal small talk, sometimes there wouldn't be.....But to be honest, with the language barrier, I'd rather not talk because most of the time I couldn't understand her and I didn't want to be rude.
Now, for the bad....One day I called up for an appointment for an acrylic fill, a shellac and of course, asked for Kim. She wasn't available and I panicked! It took me months to be happy with her doing my nails and now I had to see someone else. I took the chance though and told them I would be in that day. When I arrived (early as always), I was told to pick out my shellac color. Nothing unusual, and I take a million years to decide on my colors, so I killed some time and waited.
After about 5 minutes they came up to me and told me the person that was going to be doing my nails was running a little behind and it would probably be another 10 minute wait. I told them it was fine and continued to wait. Here it is now 15 minutes of waiting and no one came to tell me they were ready for me. Another 10 minutes ( 25 minutes total ) and they inform me it should be another 5 minutes. Finally after 30 minutes of waiting they are ready for me. I sit down and show them my nails to get prepped. She sees that I have acrylics and informs me she doesn't do acrylics and will need to find someone else to do them for me. Now I am starting to get annoyed!! I specifically said when I made the appointment that I was getting an acrylic fill with a shellac manicure. Plus I have already waited 30 minutes.
So I got back to waiting and 15 minutes later (45 total now) I am bumped over to another person. He did a good job on my fill and shellac and was fast. The only downside was that he seemed to be sick/have a cold and his nose kept running and he had a bad cough. He tried to finish my nails while sniffing away and I finally was like do you want to go to the bathroom and blow your nose? He did and grabbed a bottle of water. I understand people get sick and in the type of career field where you are around people all day (I am a hair stylist so I know) you don't want to be working when you are sick. You run the risk of making several more people sick as well and not getting better yourself.
Finally my second reason for lack of stars. I had been going there for around 9 months getting the same exact thing done. I had been paying $42 dollars for a fill and shellac, which is high on its own. However the final straw for me that day, after having to wait 45 minutes just to have someone that was sick do my nails, was that I was told my total was $49. I was floored!!! I would think if anything I would get a few dollars off for having to be there for about 2.5 hours, and 45 of those minutes were me waiting. I explained that I had been paying a different amount for the last 9 months, and that I am in there ever 3 weeks and not once was told there would be a price increase. The guy informed me that was the price and I have been paying the wrong amount. At this point I just wanted to leave so I paid and left.
As much as I liked the work of one person there, the other drama and lack of professionalism at this "spa" is a real turn off. I have since found a place in Salem that is also walking distance for me, with a more professional environment, friendlier English speaking girls, who do great work for half the price of what I had been paying so I will continue going there.
Sorry, Nails & "Spa"...You guys blew it and lost a loyal customer! read more
