I am very content with the service and kindness I received at this nail salon. This was my first time at this salon, I had a manicure and pedicure. The pedicure was not scheduled but with little fanfare Tracey was able to accommodate me. The salon is very clean, bright and well organized. Not a sweatshop ambiance. It was a very calming experience and I will be back. Unlike the other nail salon on Bessom where you are just a number there was no attitude. Nice friendly staff, however tech over "plucked" my cuticles during shellac manicure. My ring finger cuticle area bled quite a bit. She did end up putting something on it to stop bleeding and apologized. It sadly is sore and swollen, not the cutest look on a ring finger. My daughter's toes were not fully polished and smudged way to easily after drying for 10 minutes. 44$ for my manicure and her polish job. Don't know what local prices are, as we are on vacation. A bit higher here than Seattle I can see. The friendly staff are definitely worth the trip, just wish the outcome had a better finished look. read more

They don't try to constantly upsell, they are friendly, quiet, and sweet. Once you go here once, you will NEVER want to even try another nail salon. Perfect mani/pedi and experience every time! Very surprised there are any remotely negative reviews. I have been going here for years, hands down the BEST nail salon I have ever been to. The salon is incredibly clean, the employees are professional and unbelievably great at what they do. Back in high school I would sporadically get acrylics or regular mani/pedis and this was my go to place. Then when I graduated college (about 3 years ago), I started getting my nails done here again and I couldn't be happier with Tracy and her staff! I was getting gel polish for a while but having naturally weak and thin nails and breaking them relatively often (no fault of the nail tech's) Tracy recommended I try the powder dip - I love it! For about a year now I have been getting the most perfect powder dip manicures at Top Nail. I've even brought friends with me who have switched to Top Nail due to such amazing experiences - most of these friends live out of town. Tracy and her staff are all incredible professional, personable, and extremely talented individuals. I recently moved out of town and now my only complaint is I have about a 40 minute drive to get my nails done. PS - almost forgot to mention, since I break my nails relatively often, I have gone back in between appointments to have a nail or two fixed and every time they fix my nails and don't charge me for it, then they try to refuse a tip! I went in yesterday with my sister for manicures. The first thing to catch us off-guard was the nail polish selection. About 40 shades of OPI reds, only 10 China Glaze, and a half shelf of Essie, and 10 or so of a brand I didn't recognize. It was really unimpressive, and hard to find a unique shade that My sister and I or a friend don't own. I was taken by Tammy (I'm assuming this is her name, I was never told it). The first thing I notice about her was her nails. If you're getting your nails done professionally, you expect the nail tech to be able to take care of her nails. Hers were unkempt and incredibly off-putting I explained to her than I had a split in one nail, and in the rudest tone possible she asked "what do you want to do about it?" I'm not the nail tech, she is. After filing down that nail into some weird squoval/almond hybrid, she cut and filed my nails. None of my nails are the same shape, some are slanted, some are round, some were left with rough edged that I had to touch up myself when I got home. The files that this place uses are for acrylic nails. They're too rough for natural nails and their filing technique, sawing back and forth without sealing the nail plate (running the file vertically down the edge of the nail), will leave my nails and worse shape than I came in with. The woman doing my nail went back to my thumb nail and tried to tell me that my nail is naturally white underneath. It was a split and an obvious split. She then tried to convince me that she should put glue on it because it will cause my nail polish to come off quicker. They use products that can be bought at CVS. Glue is the least of their wearing off worries. She finally put some glue on the part of my nail that was broken, and continued with the flop of a manicure. My sister's nails were beautiful and naturally long, and the woman who did her nails cut them down short, even after my sister said she only wanted a little off. While she was offered a shape, here's were just as uneven as mine. She's really annoyed by her lack of nails, so as a courtesy of her, I'm going to find a better salon and pay to get her nail extensions. If you want your nails down right, skip this place. You could do a better job yourself. The base coat they use is Orly Bonder, the polish was OPI, and while I"m not sure about the top coat, it was old and stained from other red polished, meaning that if you had a pale color or not-red color, it was be tinted red. I don't understand how the place has such good reviews, because what both my sister and I received were completely unacceptable. read more

I have been going to this nail salon for years and have always felt it was one of the best around. I took a winter hiatus and just returned for a pedicure. When I called 2 weeks ago to book an appt, I discovered that my regular nail tech was out for a few months. I asked who was the longest person there and booked an appointment with her. When I came to the salon today, I had to wait 30 mins as all the pedi chairs were filled. I said that I had an appt and named the person I had booked. When I was finally taken, along with another woman who was a walk-in, I was given to a tech who had only been there a week, while the other woman, was given to the tech I had booked (Since she was seated next to me I could see what a good pedicure she was getting). The young woman, though pleasant, really didn't do a good job on my feet! I had to ask her a number of times to reshape my nails and also told her she was hurting me. I would not recommend them and plan to go across the street to Lucky Nails. read more

I don't usually have manicures because the polish is chipped within 1-2 days. Not so with Top Nail--Mine has lasted almost a full week--I say almost because there is slight wear now on the red polish that has been so perfect all week. I don't know what they do--this was just OPI polish--but it is, by far, the best polish experience I've ever had. Highly recommend! read more

Due to a medical condition plus the medication needed to treat it, my already thin nails became extremely thin. I tried gel manicures but the salons I tried in my hometown (not Marblehead but close by) were either scrapping the old gel off and destroying the entire nail bed (well, one salon did) or the traditional soak with chemicals which I'm sure is fine for most but with my auto-immune diseases, was not something my doctor wanted me to do. I was in Marblehead one day about 2 years ago and stopped by Top Nail Design and Tammy (the owner, I think) looked at my nails and said she could use a different technique. I don't know the name of it but it's not using traditional acrylics. It's some combination of a gel but very thin pieces of plastic are applied to the top 1/3 of the nail first and-well, it doesn't really matter but Tammy is the only one (I think) who does this and it's time-consuming but the results are incredible, probably due in large part to Tammy's high standards. She is a perfectionist and true professional and the entire salon has that vibe. They seem to be able to accommodate nearly everyone, even walk-in's on a Friday afternoon in the summer who want a pedicure. I've never seen them turn anyone away altho' they may ask walk-in's to return in an hour. While I have not used any one but Tammy, there is a male receptionist who seems to keep things well organized (although he sometimes consults with Tammy if the salon is full). The other "nail technicians" seem to be equally diligent and professional. Unlike other nail salons I've been in, there is no loud "chatter" going on by the employees. When they are working on a client's nails, they are all business and there's no idle talking among themselves in their native language which I find to be common in other salons and frankly annoying. They seem to have a wide range of services (I just get the manicure technique Tammy uses and an occasional traditional pedicure.) In sum, it's a well-run, highly professional nail salon whose employees are extremely dedicated. I'm quite sure that Tammy would not have her salon any other way. There are so many nail salons in the surrounding towns and I assume in Marblehead as well but Top Nail Design is always busy an clearly popular and favored over others. True professionals! read more
