First time visiting Lucky 13 Tattoos. I was going for an ear piercing. I was able to get a same day appointment with Kristie. We arrived a bit early and it was fun to see how big the space actually is. So many tiny tattoo rooms. Vibrant yet dark. Cool but clean. Super cool vibe. Kristie was very professional and I felt like I was in great hands. She covered how the piercing would be done and what I needed to do for aftercare. I had NO issues with my piercing post visit. Healed up excellent! I highly recommend. I would go for tattoo's as well, but cannot cheat on my local artist. If he retires, I will definitely give them a try. My friends and I were walk-ins and we were seen within 15-30 minutes of us walking in. My tattoo artist was Natasha and my tattoo came out fabulously! I came in with a design from my cousin and wanted it sized up to fit between 2 others. I got an Aquarius CareBear and it's lovely! We bounced a few ideas back and forth but eventually settled on 3 colors for the waterfall, red hearts and white for the eyes and stars. Natasha made me feel very comfortable and was very personable. My only memories of being pierced were at Claire's, a seedy place in Berkeley, much later in life at Maria Tash and now with Kristie at L13. Would not return to the first two and MT is just not easily accessible. Kristie is local, reasonably priced and highly skilled! Felt completely at ease with the hygiene and safety protocols she has in place. The space is so cool also - I think every seat is upholstered with leather. Had to get a piercing stretched, she also installed multiple jewelry piercings for me on several occasions, each time carefully with sterilized tools and a deft hand. Appointments are released a week at a time and I would encourage them, although that waiting room is pretty fun to be in. Note: if you are getting pierced, you will need to purchase Jewelry from her directly. When I am in the market for another piercing, I will be returning to Kristie's capable hands. read more

It's been a long time since my last review because I had lost interest in being an active Yelper. I felt like I had to come back to praise Natasha and her work. The best thing about her is that she is really patient and acknowledges that it's important for you to be all in on the design as the tattoo will be permanent. She will check with you several times to make sure you like the design. However, I have a tendency to say things are fine even if I'm not 100% sure and Natasha was aware enough to notice this and would push me to speak up about the aspects I didn't like or what I wanted changed. I really appreciated this as it ensured I ended up with a tattoo I really really wanted and loved. She is an incredibly hard worker and will tattoo you until you can't stand being worked on anymore. This is crucial to finishing your tattoo in a reasonable amount of time because she can get booked up a couple of months out. I also really appreciated that she suggested we book a touch up appointment at the end of the final appointment because there ended up being spots that needed more color, after it healed. I liked that she was anticipated the situation well, to book us a just in case appointment. Saved me a month's time from having my completed tattoo. I had Disney characters and my dog in my tattoo. The characters look straight out of the movie and my dog doesn't look like a generic dog of her breed. Everyone says it looks like her! I think that is partly because Natasha is a great artist and partly because she really listens to your notes. I wanted specific markings included and she got it all on there. Lastly, she is really responsive over text. I had questions about aftercare and she did not leave me hanging. Cash only. No venmo or pay apps. read more

WHEN: Fri @4pm I didn't have an appt which you can easily schedule on their website. Since I came for piercings reasons they have someone available only 1pm-5pm weekdays. Kristie is the piercing person and she is super professional and friendly! The service I came for is listed as: JEWELRY INSTALLATION/REMOVAL 30 minutes - $10 I didn't have cash so I Venmoed her before we got started (plus tip!). I brought my jewelry, where I had 3 cartilage rings with steel ball removed, and replaced with the ones I brought. I was in and out in 20 minutes including wait time! Woo-hoo! This place is amazing and way bigger than expected. There's multiple rooms where it feels private if you were to get anything done, but not in a sketchy way. There's even a rad waiting room for them to call for you! I highly recommend this spot, as it is conveniently located, and it feels quite welcoming. read more

I reached out through their website to Natasha as I felt her style and ability was most suited for what I wanted done. I got a text from her within the week after submitting my request laying out what their policy was in terms of consult to actual tattoo session. Everything was explained very clearly and she explained that she was booked out a couple months for actual sessions but we would discuss the details during the consult. Scheduling the consult also required a deposit that would go towards the final piece. Don't know if this policy is the same for all their artists as I have not had any consults/sessions with them. It is also CASH only with an ATM on site. The consultation was very chill and Natasha listened to what I wanted out of my piece(s) and was also understanding of my own scheduling needs. Due to my piece(s) being multiple parts that would ultimately end up as a sleeve we worked out standing appointments with ~5 weeks between to allow for healing. I'm also moving soon so the scheduling would work around what we could fit into each session. I had part 1 done in January of two of my dogs' ears with watercolor background. These were done from photos and I requested some realistic shading to emphasize their fluff. Since these are both dogs that have passed away I was very picky and particular in how I wanted them represented and memorialized. Natasha knocked it out of the park with listening to what I wanted and just executing the detail. The watercolor background was done as a freehand where my only real requests were the color and abstract swirls. The color came out phenomenal during and after the healing process. Everything was done with clean instruments and fresh sterile needles. There's definitely no skimping on eliminating any chance of infection right off the bat. The session itself was not stressful, there's music playing, Netflix in the background if you need some distraction and chill conversation if you want to talk. Natasha gave very good detailed after care instructions which I followed closely. She also knew my job required a lot of physical movement and opted for me to protect it with Tegaderm right away to keep it clean for the first few days. This is honestly the fastest and smoothest healing I've ever had for a tattoo. The last time I had a tattoo done was over 10 years ago so I know some of the technology and overall care process has improved but I'm still very impressed that I was set up so well for success. Can't wait for my next sessions to have my piece(s) complete. read more

Natasha rules. Hands down. I'm 45 and have had work done since I was a teenager (that comes in to play in this review). I have a lot of random work on my arms, but finally came up with an idea to do sleeves. Some would be cover ups. I had a consultation with her, shared with her the crazy art I wanted (which includes and has a lot of really intricate lines and cross hatch), and she loved the ideas and challenges. I let her know in that consult that I didn't have a specific stencil in mind, but that I wanted to have a bunch of this particular artists work on my arms. She is super easy to talk to and communicate with. So that, and the fact that I'd seen her previous work and pencil work, made the choice to work with her a no brainer. We did my first quarter sleeve, and it came out awesome. It has a ton of small cross hatching, and instead of using a mag and doing it quickly, she chose to do a ton of single line work. Her decision paid off. Using a mag sure would have been quicker, but because she recognizes art and takes her work seriously, the decision to use a single needle made the tattoo look stunning. Natasha just finished a cover up for me. Again, the art I wanted had a lot of fine line work. I am amazed. The old tattoo (which had some massive thick black lines) is not visible. With the new piece, she even added depth and dimension that I did not expect. (That old tattoo has been there for 30 years, was scar tissue, and ugly) Overall, I cannot recommend Natasha enough. She kicks ass. read more

Oliver did my tattoo back in 2014 when he was working at a different tattoo shop, and I loved the tat. My mom passed away last Nov and I wanted to go back to Oliver to do a couple of memorial tats. Found out that he no longer works in Hayward but I was able to track him down. Since my two tattoos were pretty small, Oliver was able to see me at the end of the day so that I didn't have to wait for a few months for my appointment. Once again, the artists at Lucky 13 never ever fail to impress me. This time, I reached out to Kevin Herrera after seeing his IG page and looking through his portfolio. I saw he did a few awesome portraits and I've always wanted my puppies tattoo'd on me (but it's REALLY hard to trust people with getting realistic portraits just right, I've seen so many botched portraits that look nothing like the original photo lol). Kevin's work looked so clean though so I decided to give it a shot and see if he'd be willing to do my tattoo. I reached out to him on Tuesday and ended up in his chair just 2 days later lol. He is so time-efficient and immediately started on my sketches after I texted him the 3 photos of my dogs' faces. He came into the shop for my appointment fully prepared and ready to go with the stencils so we got set up pretty quickly. He's a really easy-going artist, really personable and entertaining, and I enjoyed our conversations while I sat for 4.5 hours (with a couple breaks thrown in the mix). He made sure I was happy with the size, placement, shading, and details. More than that - he made sure HE was happy with the size, placement, shading, and details, which goes to show just how attentive he is to the tiniest details. He made sure to get the shading right and added the thinnest strands of fur that really added some texture and dimension to my tattoo. He also added hints of white highlights in just the right places to help make the contrast pop out more in certain areas.
