Best place in the East Bay to get permanent artwork on your body. I've come here a couple times already and my homie, Irene, is a true master of her craft. Each time I come to her with my simplistic idea, she transforms it into something far beyond my imagination. I also love the atmosphere here, it's real lowkey and comfortable. I feel right at home, which is exactly what I need when it gets a little painful. Even though it's very chill here, they're very professional and adhere to all laws and guidelines. They also do a great job with taking precautions regarding COVID-19. I will be coming here for all of my artwork and couldn't imagine going anywhere else. i booked an appointment with Sal to get a piece finished that had been started by someone else a few months earlier. I paid for four hours and Sal got it done in four hours, on the dot. He's so talented and the piece came out amazingly. Aside from the work, the building is great. and they have art shows every so often featuring local artists. The workspace is awesome and so comfortable and the staff is great and every so often some other artist will come and check out the work being done by someone else, which is kind of great because it shows you that the employees seem really close knit.This place is reasonably priced and a great tattoo shop all around. Sal (El Chamuco) has found an amazing location in Oakland to sling ink. Chamuco's been my tattoo artist for 6+ years. What happens when you put together a beautiful building with a fascinating history and combine it with badass murals, hot lowrider cars, cool vatos, beautiful mujeres, fascinating artwork, good convo, and delicious aguas frescas? My boyfriend and I enjoyed a quick date night at the opening of "Homegirls", an art exhibit dedicated to the fierce and fabulous barrio women known as cholas. The art was amazing. The oldies were bumping. Everyone was friendly including Chamuco, owner/artist in residence. They change exhibits every season so we will be back. Just got through with my piece from Sal (Chamuco), and words cannot express what an amazingly great experience it was - but I'll try. I emailed ahead to get an appointment and sent a woefully simple sketch of what I was thinking, to beg that he work some magic on it. And he did! He took the rudimentary idea I had and gave it real depth and soul. The shading on it is so fantastically realistic that it gives it true movement. Sal is no doubt the real thing - a gifted but accessible, down-to-earth yet visionary kind of artist. Not only that, but the space (just expanded) is really special. In my experience, tattoo studios are typically cramped and dark, but Sal's space doubles as an art studio for some fantastic local artists, and has luscious natural light. It makes it a really special experience. Finally, I have to mention Amy, Sal's wife. She was the main interface that I had with the studio when I was setting up times for an appointment, and she was super friendly and accommodating. Between the two of them, it was the best experience I've had getting tattooed, and I would recommend them wholeheartedly to anyone looking to get some truly one-of-a-kind work. read more

I came to him with an idea for a memorial piece to honor my daughter and he listened to my ideas, when one wasn't going to work right he didn't make me feel like an idiot or belittle my idea. He took the time to explain everything and when he did the outline and I took my first look at it he far surpassed my vision of what I wanted. Its almost complete and I am so in love with my back piece, I cannot wait for my color, its beautiful now but when its colored its going to be gorgeous. I have been a fan of Sal's work for years, when the shop was just a twinkle in his eye! I have referred everyone who ask about my tats to him! The shop is amazing, warmly decorated and they always have cool artwork to look at while you wait. Just got my tattoo done by irene! Words cant describe how happy I am with the work she did to my tattoo. I luckly got a spot this sunday since shes always booked out., I decided to go for it.
