Amazing artist. When I wanted a western dragon to communicate my love of fantasy he sat down with me and talked with me and had me send him pictures to help him figure out how to pose it and how to place it on my arm. Educated me on how and why certain placements were not recommended based on anatomy and even didn't tattoo places where there would be little benefit, like the inside of my right arm where I have my dragon - a lot of pain for a place that wouldn't be seen often I am currently sitting at home with a freshly inked tattoo from him that is purely symbolic with flowers growing into my churchs logo. He is purely professional and very respectful of your worldview and can even make lighthearted jokes about it. Like during my session today, he joked that I was so forgiving because it was all the Christian in me XD I will never go to another tattoo artist ever. read more

Zack did my second tattoo about 5-years ago. I only had a simple idea of what I wanted and brought a small ceramic figurine as an example. In just a few short minutes of talking, Zack sketched out an owl in great detail that truly blew me away. Beyond his amazing artistic abilities, he was professional in every way. His work station was super clean, he walked me through the process and explained everything. (I wish my first tattoo experience had been like this one!!) I highly recommend Zack to friends and family! If you're looking for someone who has the know-how and is an exceptional artist, go to Zack! read more

He was great to work with, he took into account all the components I wanted in my tattoo and then made it work! I was really impressed at his attention to detail, down to making the tattoo fit perfectly for my body contour. It's been a couple years since I got it, but the color is still vibrant and I get tons of compliments on it. He does amazing work, and is so versatile, I wouldn't hesitate to go back for my next tattoo! read more

I wish I could give Zack 50 stars instead of 5. Zack did a lot of work for me for 3 years while I was living in Berkeley. He mostly Japanese inspired pieces in some precarious places like my sternum and chest, the front aand backside of my knee, my shin and my calf. He touched up some older work as well. Every piece was better than the previous piece. I always looked forward to seeing Zack both for the beautiful work he did and for the opportunity to hang out for him for a couple of hours. I have had a lot of work done by many artists but Zack is special. He is talented and kind and generally a very Awesome guy!!!!! read more

I'd wanted a tattoo for a long time and had a good idea of what I wanted but never pulled the trigger. Somehow I got lucky and stumbled on Sacred Rose and Zack. Everything was explained to me clearly and my idea was developed with Zack. As a newbie, I never felt pushed or taken advantage of. Whole experience was very comfortable and I've since gone back for a second and now ready for number three. I highly recommend. Thanks Zack! read more

When myself and Zack were young lads in Albany, sitting next to one another in Mr. Davis' Biology class in high school you could see his passion for art back then in... gulp... 1994... So he has been mastering his craft for as long as I can remember. His work has only got better... Though I must say I got a higher grade on how a plant grows... as Zack wisely noted, Mr Davis was wowed by my use of color. If I ever get that screaming eagle on the back, Zack is who I would call. read more

Zack did an inner arm tattoo of a memorial of my passed wife. I showed him a video and some pics, we talked about it, and he created a design that I absolutely loved. He gave me good advice on placement and ensured I was happy before starting. He made me as comfortable as possible before starting and we had a cool, comfortable conversation during the process. I couldn't be happier with the result. Can't wait to go back and get another piece. read more

Zack has been my main artist for three years now. He is always patient and flexible, and is always willing to work with you and ensure that you are satisfied with your tattoo. With tattoos being permanent, Zack goes above and beyond to make sure that you don't leave with any regrets. He improvised my half sleeve's design on the spot after I gave him just a few descriptions, and I instantly fell in love with it. Plus, during breaks and down time he makes for great conversation over some coffee and tea. 10/10, would definitely recommend, and I look forward to finishing my half-sleeve with him. read more

I met Zack through an old friend/coworker because I was always so mesmerized by the amazing work he had done for her. Zack has done all of my art except for one piece on my side I got way back in college! He does AMAZING work! It's very nerve wracking looking for someone to do your art because it is on your body and you don't want a shitty looking tattoo or pay that much for one you aren't 100% happy with. Before I met Zack I scoured tattoo artists on yelp. I don't really have one style in particular when it comes to my art and I swear Zack can do amazing work with anything! If you are looking for someone to do clean, precise, amazing work you don't have to look any further! People have stopped me in stores, the gym, walking down the street, at work, etc. so they can enjoy my art. No matter where I live I will travel back to Zack when I want another piece! You're making a big mistake if you go anywhere else! Even my mother came down from Seattle to get a tattoo from him! read more

For those that won't read past the first couple lines... for tattoos, I consider Zack "my guy". I'm not going to anyone else, period. Zack did my very first tattoo about 6 years ago, and I have been coming back ever since. Zack is my guy! He is extremely talented, chill AF, makes you feel comfortable, gives his artistic/experienced opinion while making you feel good about the design and placement, etc. Zack is patient, with me being crazy OCD about my designs, but working with me he always gives me exactly what I'm looking for, he gets it right!!! He's the man! My experiences have always been awesome, I always leave in a great mood, super happy and excited about my new artwork. The vibe is chill! There's great conversation if you want it, or if you want to put on your headphones and zone out, you can do that too. He can do all different types of styles, but his specialties/favorites are my favorites, that's why he's my guy! He's already done 6 medium sized tattoos for me, and I have a list of things I want him to do. Zack is super approachable, flexible, dependable, communicative, all that. Never had a bad experience with this man! I could go on and on. Long story longer, you won't be disappointed. read more

This man is an artist. From freehanding (well the tentacles at least) an eldritch space horror on one arm to the tiny delicate faces of Disney villains on the other. His work is above and beyond compare. My only regret in choosing to use him is that he now resides on the opposite coast. read more

It's been a couple of years since my last tattoo. 2 separate friends that don't know each other recommended Zack. I LOVE the work he did. Zack is the best of the best. I have recommended so many friends and family to Zach and they love him. I got my first tattoo with Zach. Always a great conversationalists, charming, smart, always satisfied. He does great Japanese style artwork but his style range is vast! He did one portrait that is photo realistic. The guy is a beast! My favorite tattoo artist not only in the bay, or the US but the world! (I have gotten tattoos around the world. You won't be disappointed. Zack is a very professional and talented artist. Ilost the picture of the tattoo that I wanted so I came in with only a rough idea of what I wanted. Zack very patiently sat and worked with me to recreate the image. Zack's image was far better than the original. Just watching him work as an artist in the design phase was amazing. During the tattoo process, Zack was very professional. I felt that he kept the work area as sterile as a doctor's office. Zack is very easy going and made the tattoo experience incredibly pleasant. I reluctantly went to get this tattoo but returned home excited to get more tattoos from Zack. My wife went to Zack and had a very similar experience. I plan on going to Zack for all my future tattoos. read more

I continue to be amazed by Zack's art, his creativity, and his dedication to the profession. Since I am not an artistic person myself and only ever have general ideas of what I want to accomplish, I place great reliance on and trust in a tattoo artist who is able to translate my thoughts and ideas into truly custom artistic vision. Over the course of the last year, I have spent 10+ sessions and 40+ hours with Zack on an almost-full-sleeve Japanese style tattoo, so I can speak from my experience not as a one-time customer but as someone who has entrusted virtually my entire arm to his work. He is realistic, up-front and clear to set expectations, willing and able to listen, and extremely reliable. He manages his calendar like a professional services provider, and he delivers by exceeding expectations. And best of all, Zack does it all with such ease and without any attitude or pretentiousness! Aside from his art and his tattoo work, Zack is a super-smart guy, very approachable, and someone who has his heart in the right place. He's become my friend first through his art, and then through our conversations, so I already look forward to booking another session with him again soon! read more

I was on vacation in the Bay Area in 2017. While in Berkeley we just happened to drive past Sacred Rose Tattoo which I had read about online. I stopped into the shop and ended up talking to Zack. I wanted some watch work gears added to my first tattoo. Zack offered to help me get something put together even if he wasn't the one to put the ink to my arm. I sent him some photos and then we got together again and we talked about the different pieces to add to the idea. I got the feeling of a connection with Zack and we booked an appointment to get it done. He took my thoughts added them to my existing tattoo and knocked it out of the park. He truly showed that he is very passionate and conscientious about his art when he pointed out how the angles in my existing tattoo would dictate how he needed to align the new tattoo. It was that attention to detail that made me feel relaxed and confident in him. I would not hesitate to recommend Zack to anyone. He is professional, friendly and a damn good artist. read more

Getting a tattoo is a commitment. For me, each piece I get is something that I've spent a long time thinking about, planning, and that marks a major event in my life. Finding an artist to turn my visions into reality took years, but my brother referred me to Zack and Zack turned out to be the one I trust with my tattoos. A great artist means the difference between walking around with a beautiful memory displayed or an embarrassing piece you do your best to hide and pray that you can afford to laser away. With Zack, I never have to worry that the end result will be anything other than something I will be proud to have as part of me for the rest of my life. Zack is the rare combination of artistic talent, willingness to listen and work with the client, and technical expertise that makes for a top rate tattoo artist. Over the years he has become close to my family, now having tattooed me, my brother, my wife, my sister-in-law, and recently my son. I wouldn't have trusted anyone else with my son's first piece and am happy that Zack is willing to help my son make good choices about what to get and where to put it. I've recommended Zack to a number of my friends and have yet to have one come back unhappy with Zack or his work. Zack has shown time and again that he is professional, knowledgeable, and an amazing artist. I highly recommend him and can honestly say that I will be a client for life. read more

Zack is a fantastic artist! He is the only tattoo artist that I have ever allowed to free- hand draw on me, then tattoo artwork on permanately. His water shading blows me away, and the artistry evident from drawing to finished product. Even 20 years later, his excellent technique has stood the test of time. In total I have over 25 hrs of work, and hope to get more the next time I'm back in Cali. I am very proud of the ink I wear from Zack, and you will be too! Invest some time with Zack, and gain a piece of art worth every second of pain. Yes it hurts! ---AJ from Santa Cruz, CA. (Now Nashville,TN). read more
