My son and I were travelling with my husband for a meeting, and the co-workers chose Lucilla for dinner that evening. We weren't disappointed. Since we were starving, we weren't really concerned much with how the place looked on the outside or the ambience inside. I am not a picky person. The interior was tastefully decorated and clean, and that was enough for me. The menu was short and sweet, with a just handful of small plates, soups/salads, and dinners to choose from. The pre-dinner bread and butter that was brought out looked simple, but tasted divine. The bread was hot, with a crusty outside and spongy inside. It came with sides of small balls of warm butter, which is the way I like it (soft and spreadable). I ordered the Scottish Salmon and enjoyed it thoroughly. My salmon was cooked perfectly (well-done), still juicy and tender, and the creamy tomato/shiitake sauce was a wonderful complement. A side of creamy, herbed grits and collards seasoned with bacon was a perfect pairing for me. My 13-yr old, who enjoys trying new things, ordered the Duck and raved about it all night. He said it was tender and the sauce was richly-flavored. Hubby ordered the Vinegar Chicken and had no complaints. The chicken had a little bit of tang, and was hot and tender. I felt the portions were just right-sometimes at these prices they can be prissy portions where you leave hungry-not so here. All the meals that arrived at our table looked delicious and filling. We shared a Key Lime Creme Brûlée for dessert. The whipped cream was infused with lime flavor and bits of lime zest and was my favorite part, lol! There was nice crust and a very rich, limey creme below. Nothing to complain about. The service was a bit on the slow side, but we had a party of 14. The server also brought out our check and hadn't even asked us whether we wanted dessert. There was no dessert menu that was offered, so perhaps they don't have one and maybe just have a few things that they spout off to you, or maybe our server got too busy. However, I had read previous yelp reviews and already knew I wanted the Key Lime Creme Brûlée. Beautiful muted tones & v romantic vibes inside. We were sat quickly and couldn't believe how packed the place was. Bread and wine to start. Good selection and a decent beer selection. Menu is small but has plenty of options for veggies and meat lovers alike. I had the sweet grass dairy chicken. 10/10 y'all - rich flavors without being overkill. Perfectly cooked green beans. KB has the vinegar chicken with collards. Super tasty, but would have given me heartburn in 5 seconds lolol. Presentation was nice, vinegar chicken was a weeeee bit hard to not be messy with. This used to be one of the best restaurants in town. Now they nickel and dime you and are decreasing portions over and over again which means we find a new place. First they increased the corkage fee from $10 to $20 and now charge a cake cutting fee of $20 and bread used to be included but now $10 for a table of 4. Other fees they didn't divulge until the bill comes. Chef you have lost us. Many better choices that don't nickle and dime you. read more

What a diamond in the rough! I drove past this place a few times without noticing it there, tucked away behind Ross. The first time I stopped by for lunch, I had the Lucilla salad with grilled chicken. It was fresh and delicious. Also, I loved the wine list. I knew I would be back. The second time was during lunch once again with my husband. We started with the oysters. They were fried oh so delicately. Then we had two mouthwatering sandwiches. His was the special fried chicken sandwich with slaw. I went for the burger with manchego cheese and bacon. It didn't disappoint. The pickled green tomato on it was EVERYTHING! I went here about a week ago and it was amazing. Admittedly the outside of the building does not look the best the inside is gorgeous and sets a wonderful soft light dinning scene. The food is plated gorgeously you almost feel bad for eating it. The taste is unheard of both of their chicken dishes are amazingly tender you barley need a knife with a fantastic sear to them. Their grouper Saint Charles is something else it's an incredible dish with crab and grouper but has little to no fish taste and every bite makes you feel like your in a cabin at the beach. I am a trial lawyer that was in town for a week and a half to try a case. On the first day, Chef Joseph was one of the potential jury members. Although he didn't make it onto the jury, I liked the way he spoke of his restaurant and how worried he was over its operation (buying product during the day, etc) So, that night, after the jury was picked, my team and I popped in for dinner and what a delight. I dined at Lucilla three times that week. I cannot recommend it enough. My team ate a variety of the main courses and all described them as absolutely delicious. I am a bolognese fan so the first night I tried the pasta bolognese. The sauce ranks as some of the best sauce I have ever had (I travel a lot so that is saying something) and the portion was huge. Expect to take some home for lunch the following day. On the next two occasions, I had mom's chicken. A comfort food dish if there ever was one. A chicken breast with just a hint of vinegar to the flavor next to creamy mashed potatoes, collard greens with a touch of heat to them, all on a shallow layer of gravy so none of the food swims in it. My trial lawyer partner (my daughter) had the chicken pot pie which presented in a manner none of us expected. She described it as deconstructed and every bite melted in her mouth. She smiled every time she took a bite. Lucilla is in an old Pizza Hut and getting in will get harder as the word spreads of how fantastic the food is. I would recommend white table cloths to up the ambiance. Wine list is decent. Service was very friendly and prompt. No hovering but wait staff close by if you needed something. If you asked me to look into a crystal ball, Lucilla will go places in the Tallahassee restaurant scene. Overall, food is 9/10 on flavor, 7/10 on presentation, 10/10 on portions (may be too much if there is such a thing), 8/10 on wait staff and 6/10 on wine selection. If I lived in Tallahassee, Lucilla would be a weekly stop for me and my family. I highly recommend it to you. read more

What a nice surprise. The restaurant is very unassuming from the outside, but the inside is cozy. Everyone was friendly. I heard them say they have wine and beer but I opted for unsweet tea. I had the oyster appetizer which was very good. I chose the salmon and it was perfectly done as requested, medium, and I really enjoyed it. The bread was amazing. It had just a hint of Rosemary and the perfect crispy on the outside and warm on the inside. If I nitpick a little music would have been nice, if only to not hear the somewhat loud conversation of a nearby table. But all in all, everything was lovely. I can't wait to go back! read more

I have e-mailed for reservation several days ahead and it was confirmed within the hour via returned e-mail. This was my first visit at Lucilla, our table was ready when we arrived, we were seated promptly and our server arrived shortly. The ambiance was very welcoming, I enjoyed the intimate lightning and the black and white print of Tallahassee at the entrance. I came to Lucilla on a Valentine's date and it was a romantic and cute place. I had reservations for 9pm since they were pretty well booked. Upon arrival we only had to wait maybe 5 minutes before our table was ready. It is a dimly lit place for a candle dinner. There was plenty of people in the restaurant and seating was along the walls and in the center of the room. We were seated kind of in the middle of the room and it felt like we were on display for everyone so it took a bit away from the romance. Still the ambiance is calm and relaxing. The waitress was very informative of the menu and surprisingly very patient due to the occasion. Started off with a bottle of wine and proceeded to order our food. Pimiento Cheese Fritters were our appetizer. These were decently sized and had a great texture. The bourbon peach glaze had a nice sweetness to compliment the cheese. For my main I had the Roasted Vegetable Quinoa Paella. I rarely eat vegetarian meals and I probably could have added chicken or shrimp, but I really enjoyed the flavors of this. It was also a surprisingly large portion! Lots of quinoa, but I really liked the mushrooms with the saffron kick. My friend had the Herb Crusted Salmon and when I tried a bite I thought it was cooked really good too. I was too full to order dessert, but the hummingbird cake was definitely a possibility. Overall for what we ordered it was great and I only paid about $50 for my half of the bill. One of the hidden gems of Tallahassee. Absolutely amazing food with unmatched service (thanks Anna!). I don't think our drinks ever got below half-full. Perfect for an anniversary, Mother's Day lunch, or even just a Thursday night. We recommend the Pimento Cheese Fritters, Fried Oysters, Herb-Crusted Salmon, Shrimp-Scallop Grits, Grouper St. Charles, and a nutella brownie to top it off. The cuisine is mid to high end, with elegant details in presentation but you still get a boatload of fries. With appetizers, entrees and dessert and tip, my husband and I spent about $90, to give you an idea of what you're looking at. I didn't get to take a picture of the butterscotch pot we had for dessert but it was lovely and delicious. Service was excellent as well. Highly recommend the brûlée grapefruit and the dessert. I enjoyed this place. Cons: the food is fresh. I felt I was having really curated and fresh dishes and a bit different from the same old menu everyone has in town. I had a salmon on spinach and potatoes with a red sauce. The red sauce could be removed. I felt I would have been just happy with the spinach and salmon. Their bruschetta with shrimp is a must! I could just eat that. And their fresh warm bread is delicious! Seriously delicious! Cons: a bit strange their set up and decor. Sometimes I wish Yelp was on a 10 scale because Lucilla deserves a 10/10. I don't have a single thing to complain about. Calamari and smoked duck breast made for amazing appetizers. They were more than capable on their own but the mix of sauces added to the calamari and the unexpectedly delicious side salad for the duck gave them that extra oomph necessary for a mouthwatering appetizer. I chose the andouille stuffed chicken with creole hollandaise for my entree and nothing about it disappointed. The whipped potatoes on the side melted in your mouth. Key lime creme brûlée alongside lucky goat coffee provided for the perfect desert. Fantastic food, fantastic service, fantastic ambience.
