Chips and salsa
Pamela M.

Oddly craving something high-carbish and stick-to-your-ribsiriffic, I popped into Lucia's after shopping at Tuesday Morning, next door. There were 3 of us at the bar on this Sunday afternoon at the "new" Tex Mex joint that replaced the previous Tex Mex joint and is the second Lucia's with the original based in Athens AL. This was my first visit. There was a slight wait until the bartender showed up - no biggie. He was nice and paced things just fine - I wasn't in a rush. I ordered a Chard (Franzia, which = sad face). For whatever reason, he poured it in a long stemmed water glass filled to the rim. I ordered a beef taco, beans and rice. The chips were good, they were sturdy and crispy - not stale at all. I went light on the salsa. The beef crunchy taco was slightly greasy. I just let it break in half and kept dipping up the fillings with the comp'd chips. The beans were good and the rice was good, although I left most of it due to not eating much rice. The décor was nice and a few families were eating there at ~ 3:00 on a Sunday. All in all I wouldn't bother with Lucia's again because rarely do I crave Tex Mex, plus the vino was no Bueno. At least it was boxed making it somewhat fresh - still I wouldn't drop in for a glass of wine here, the sushi place a few doors up has better wine. I know, I know, Tex Mex places are known for margaritas. I just don't drink margaritas. Again, friendly bartender, good chips, nothing to complain about and nothing outstanding or noteworthy really.

Carne Asada, quesadilla meat, and cheese

Service was excellent and the carne Asada was pretty close to authentic. I seriously think I got almost half a pound of meat and the quesadilla was only $10! Such a value.

Excellent food quality and large portions. Take some home! Our server is attentive, prompt and professional. I can wait until we can come here again. Highly recommend!

Cristino the manager was outstanding, he is a passionate foodie!! Excellent knowledge of Mexican food!! Loved Lucias's enchiladas filled with tasty chicken, beef and shrimp topped with tomatillo sauce, cheese dip and enchilada sauce. Served with vegetable rice and steamed vegetables

Meat Mountain

Really I'd say 3.5. Definitely better than the place that was there previously. Bottom line: I would go back. My husband very much enjoyed the meat mountain inside the volcanic rock. The server was genuinely attentive. I always appreciate that.

Chile relleno, taco, guacamole salad, refried beans

Very nice, beautifully decorated. Wait staff was very nice. Ordered Chile relleno, taco, guacamole salad, refried beans from lunch menu. El Valiente I believe. With drink total was $10.67 Chile Relleno was huge, guacamole was very good with a little heat, and beans were excellent. Salsa was good, but could have used a little more spice, as in salt and jalapeño, but I like spicy. Tortilla chips were very good.

Ordered to-go from Lucia's tonight and wow was I shocked at the amount of food you get for your money. I ordered the 5 steak taco plate with chorizo topped black beans ($13) as well as the carnitas plate ($15). Each plate was enough food to serve 2 people. Great value, that's for sure. Flavor wise the food was good and not overly greasy, but I found the seasoning to be a bit light for my taste. Lucia's chips and salsas were among the best I've had in town. I look forward to sampling more of their offerings.

We were seated in about 10 minutes, which is unheard of on a night like that. The service was next level; multiple servers worked together seamlessly, making sure every table was taken care of without missing a beat. The kitchen was firing on all cylinders, pushing out food fast despite being completely packed inside and out, and everything came out hot, fresh, and perfect. They even had complimentary snacks to build your own street corn (hands down my favorite) and gave out Cinco de Mayo glasses, which was pretty cool. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place, the food, the service, the atmosphere, all of it. La Placita is the real deal. Locally owned and operated by genuinely great people, and it shows in every part of the experience. If you're looking for how a restaurant should run on its busiest day of the year, this is it.

I was greeted fairly quickly when I entered and guided to a seat with a menu and silverware. A few minutes later, the server (was bilingual) came out and asked for what I wanted. I received my salsa and chips at this time. The salsa was pretty watery and lacked spice or much flavor. It was nothing special, and chips seemed like they were made a long time ago. Looking at the menu, it seemed like a typical Mexican restaurant though I was a little disappointed that the street tacos didn't have many options. I was a little inclined to think after looking at the menu that it was more Tex Mex. They did seem to have a nice deal for aguas frescas with two glasses for under $3. That's pretty unheard of here in HSV. I ended up ordering 3 pastor tacos. I received food fairly quickly. The street tacos have a large amount of cilantro and raw onions, but not as much meat as I had hoped for. The red sauce served on the side wasn't very spicy and had more of a smokiness. Not sure I had the experience I wanted. I had to wait a bit after finishing my food to get my check or even see the waiter. If I come back, I'll try the aguas frescas.
