First time at Old Mexico, the food was nicely priced for all you get! I got the steak and chicken fajitas (the single) and it was enough for two! My husband got the quesadilla burrito and it was massive, probably the biggest burrito i've ever seen. We both had enough food for left overs. The food was delicious (other than the red sauce on the burrito he didn't like it). The queso and salsa was fantastic as well! We love Old Mexico. Hubby likes the El Pollo Loco. I get enchiladas but unlike other Mexican places, you can get vegetables on the side in place of rice and beans. It has a little bit to work on with regards to ambience and service but I imagine that other people may have had better service experiences than I did. The food was AMAZING and the drinks were delicious. I will absolutely be returning to Old Mexico Cantina and recommending it to all of my friends. Ambience (10%) 3.9/5 The two skeleton statues bordering the front doors are a huge plus. The music was a little bit too loud and in combination with the conversation of other tables meant that I had to raise my voice to be heard by my companion. The restaurant was ~65% full and busy which made me feel like it was a popular spot to be. It did not have a ton of wall art. From our booth, I had a view of three televisions and windows to the outside whereas my companion only had a painting of a flamingo to look at. There is a bar that appears to be separate from the dining room. My recommendations for Old Mexico Cantina to receive a higher ambience rating are to have TV's visible from all seats in the restaurant, more wall art, and quieter music. Service (15%) 3.1/5 We had to wait ~60 seconds to be seated. It then took ~5 minutes to order waters and alcohol. The chips and salsa were promptly delivered right after ordering drinks. We waited ~15 minutes for food after ordering which isn't a long time but felt longer than most Mexican restaurants. This meant that I ate too many chips and salsa and had less room for my food. After eating, we had to wait ~12-15 minutes for our checks to be picked up and processed. Again, not a SUPER long time but it felt much longer than it was. At this point in the meal I was full to the point of discomfort from all of the delicious food and I just wanted to go home and put stretchy pants on and relax into a food coma. Menu (15%) 4.3/5 The menu is extensive. The drink menu was incorporated into the back of the food menu which is always a plus. Certain parts of the menu deviated from the version on the website which I never enjoy because I almost always view the menu online before my meal. Overall a solid menu although eerily similar to Casa Blanca's menu. Food (40%) 4.8/5 Absolutely incredible. The Burrito Mexicano was fantastic. It had so much chicken and Mexican sausage. The enchilada sauce had strong tomato flavor that made it feel different from other enchilada sauces that I have had. The pico de gallo was incredible and had an abundance of cilantro in it. The Burrito Old Mexico had a lot of delicious cheesy sauce and even had tomatoes inside. Chips were standard but salsa was unbelievable. During our 15 minute wait for food I consumed way too many chips and salsa. When we left, there were still chips in the basket but the salsa was almost gone. That's saying something about the quality of the salsa. Drinks (20%) 4.1/5 The drinks were good. The Margarona on rocks was delicious and strong. I'm still not sure how a Margarona is supposed to be drunk because I feel like the Corona is supposed to empty into the margarita as it is being drank but I feel like I drink the margarita and then end up with half of a Corona at the end. The frozen Strawberry Margarita was very frozen and tasted exactly as expected and delicious. The Strawberry Margarita even seemingly had small pieces of strawberry in it. That was a huge plus. We tried the shrimp chimichanga and the carnitas. The chips and salsa were good. The salsa has a nice taste and has a little heat without being too spicy. The carnitas were excellent. Nice sized portion with great flavor. I appreciated that they included a grilled onion and cactus with the plate. The beans were better than average and the rice was very tasty. This may just be our new favorite Mexican restaurant in Madison. We got sat to a table immediately. Hostess was very friendly, and so was our server. Our drinks and chips/salsa came quick to the table. The chips and salsa were very tasty. Salsa had a slight kick. We ordered a small cheese dip, and that is some of the best cheese dip we have ever had! You could taste the peppers in the background, and it just had a great depth of flavor to it! I ordered the Quesadillas Hawaianas and my husband got the fajitas steak and chicken mixed. My quesadillas were delicious! The tortillas tasted homemade and there was plenty of cheese and chicken in them. I would've liked a little more pineapple. The rice was also very tasty! My husband said his fajitas were fantastic! Being Hispanic we often eat at Mexican Restaurants and decided to give this place a try. It was absolutely horrible!! Our side dish of guacamole was brought to the table already brown, which the waiter acknowledged. I ordered ala carte tacos and an enchilada. The meat filling in each of the food items was so salty that I could literally feel my blood pressure rising and stopped eating. My husband ordered a Quesadilla and said the flavor was so-so. On a more positive note, I did raise the rating from a 1-star to a 2-star since the service was good and our waiter wase attentive. We used to love this place, but it has been on the decline in my opinion for some time. Tonights dinner fajitas jalisco was barely eatible. Everything was cooked to a crisp, the vegetables being soft and soggy . The beef similar to beef jerky the shrimp dry and the few chickenpieces hard .the salt around the margarita glass was regular table salt which turned into a foamy mush before we finished our drink,and not even a tiny piece of lime to be had..the salsa which normally was so good and flavorful just tasted hot . I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!! Every time I go I get blown away by the food. The queso is F A N T A S T I C. The meat, especially the chicken is cooked to ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!!! The service is very friendly and even after I spilled queso, salsa, and water on the table, the service was very courteous and helpful. Haven't been here since last spring, but remembered we enjoyed sitting on the patio and had a good meal. Well, we arrived about 4:30 yesterday, only one other couple there (they were inside) and we chose to sit out on the patio. Very nice. Husband ordered a margarita, which he said was so-so; I had water and unsweet tea. They brought sweetened tea, and we had to wait for them to seat another couple, take their order, bring their drinks and chips before I got my tea. Finally did, and now we wanted to order; no one came back out. Husband went inside saw the server standing at the front talking with another employee and he asked them to please come take our order. They did, but not until the other couples' food was delivered. Unbelievable. My husband ordered the supreme nachos and asked if the guacamole could be on the side. They did not bring him any at all. My mixed fajitas were hot; but the chicken and beef were very tough. Too many other choices so we probably won't be back. That so-so meal with tax was $50! read more

We drive by OMC all the time so we decided to finally give it a try. Table was a bit sticky so from the beginning I was not getting the greatly first impression. The staff was friendly, but waitress could have been better about refilling our beverages. Salsa was good, if you don't like spicy. I had a Chicken Chimichanga and my husband had the Steak Mexicano, the food wasn't bad, but nothing to rave about either.
