Decided to swing by here for lunch since it's right down the street from work. The interior is your typical Tex-Mex setup with colorful deco and norteño music playing. The waiter took my order and brought the food out within 2 minutes. He even said "quick huh?" Chicken flautas with rice and charro beans and a smidgen of guacamole. The beans and the salsas that came with the chips were good, but that's pretty much where it ends. The chips were a little stale; the flauta was stale, which means it was already cooked and sitting under a warmer maybe. That explains why it came out so quickly. So I wouldn't say the food was nasty, but it left a lot to be desired. I will not be returning here and I would recommend that you not even try it. read more

Came in at 3.55...got the lunch menu mixed fajitas, added shredded cheese and sour cream. Was able to get double rice/no beans. Fajitas were good. Not quite enough grilled onion, but I LOVE onions! Good rice. 3 flour tortillas, but 4 would've been great! Servers were great! Took leftover sour cream and rice home. Total bill..$22.00 plus 4.00 for tip. A fair price, I think. OMG.. some of the best Mexican I've had in awhile! Started with a top shelf, on the rocks margaritas... delish!! I ordered carne asada and man was it great! Came out on a sizzling plate with plenty of onions and then another plate with rice, charo beans and other accoutrement. The tortillas are house made, hot, frest and delicious. My wife had a chicken dish.. sorry, can't remember what the called it.. she loved it, but the portion was huge! Enough that we could have shared it, but same with my steak. First things first. I'm not a margarita guy, but the other (dozens of) people during our Wednesday visit had mugs of margs. I'm not saying they are good, but they sure are popular here! The funny thing is, I had this place bookmarked as the former place. We came here on a Wednesday movie night in an attempt to check off another box in my Yelp bookmarks. Mission accomplished. I expected OK Tex-Mex. I was way wrong. My cheese enchiladas contained actual cheese (rare in these parts), and the crispy tacos tasted like someone really gave a damn. Charro beans and rice are some of the best in our multiple area codes. The chalupa was divine -- warn beans and cool, crisp lettuce. Wonderful. Finally, the house (red) salsa has a nice bite, and it's served cold. The green is marginal, in my opinion. Service here is good. The place is clean and comfy (no booths). There are plenty of delicious Tex-Mex joints in this area. Lucho's is among the best I've tried. read more

Came here for lunch with co-workers. It was a pretty good, affordable lunch spot. Prices were really good, service was pretty good and the food wasn't bad either. It didn' stand out as an over spectacular Tex-Mex spot but it got the job done for lunch so I would recommend. Boyfriend and I went here on a Tuesday night. It was surprisingly packed. They have a fajita special on Tuesdays so I'm guessing that's why. We came home smelling like fajitas since so many servers walked right past us with fajitas on their trays. The smell was very tempting! I live right around the corner so the location is perfect for us! It's literally 2 minutes away. I think this restaurant used to be a Don Pico's. We started out with Queso Flameado with fajita beef. OMG YUM!! That was so delish. Their beef was very flavorful and tender. We will definitely order that again. He ordered cheese enchiladas and I ordered a taco dinner. They do NOT skimp on the cheese which is a HUGE PLUS for us! We are firm believers in "There's NEVER too much cheese!" ‍ The crispy beef tacos were great too. I didn't love the rice and beans. They weren't bad. Just a little bland to me. The chips and salsa were good but the red salsa was a bit too spicy for me. I admit that I'm a wuss when it comes to spice though. The Skinny Margaritas on the rocks were great! Too good because I had 3. But their drinks are not cheap. They were $13.99 each. Wow! Our server was Joe. He was very quick and efficient. A reboot of another long-time restaurant in this location with a similar menu. Convenience and service are the name of the game, featuring a large dining room (actually two), plenty of servers and fast service. I work nearby so my visits I stop by via a walk and were seated immediately. Fast drink order and reliably quick food order. No frills service, the staff is to the point (which is fine, I don't need to hear about how I'm going to be "taken care of"). Staff is also very attentive, stopping by for water/tea fills and ready to respond to needs down to when you're ready for the check. As for the food, great lunch menu with a dozen or more options around the $10 price point (hard to beat in these inflation times). Regular menu has a bit pricier items or I found a Chimichanga for similar lunch prices. Essentially build your menu and go from there. Atmosphere is typical with Tex-Mex flare, TVs, a bar, etc. I did not try the drinks. This is kind of a no frills, good food, fast service place. Will continue to go back regularly, my definition of 4 stars. read more

We were a little disappointed tonight with Lucho's. Nothing huge but more of an inconvenience. I ordered Chicken Fajitas, Ground Beef Nachos, and Ground Beef Soft Tacos (Beef and Cheese Only), and a small queso. The problem we had was that there were no tortillas for the fajitas, and the soft tacos had lettuce and tomatoes which was easy enough to pick off for my son but we had no tortillas in the house and had to run to HEB to get some. read more

Went there for lunch. First time. We used to go a long time ago when Don Picos. The beef fajitas were excellent with the charo beans and rice and the works . Serving were large. We have always referred to Don Picos as our favorite cheap MX restaurant. We were so sad to see it leave, I saw that Luchos opened in the same location so my husband and I went to try it out. Don Picos had fabulous beef fajitas. We ordered the beef fajitas I felt there was a bit of difference in flavor but they were definitely delicious and tender. The salsas were good the red sauce a touch too much salt. It was happy hour I had a 2.99 margarita, it was pretty tame but what can you expect when it's less than a glass of tea. Food service was fast, the parrots that used to hang all over the ceiling are gone. There was a waiter we remembered from Don Pico days. Prices are still quite reasonable for decent MX food. Lucho's on Bay Area Blvd is where Don Pico's used to be. (But I hadn't been to Don Pico's in many years, so can't really compare the two.) I had the lunch fajitas (beef) and they were terrific. I liked that my rice and beans were served in a porcelain (?) dish put on the cast iron fajita plate, to keep them warm (actually hot). We ate there tonight, and it was awful. My kids couldn't even eat their meals, and each had different types of food. One had a beef chimichanga which is her favorite. It was so bad she ate three bites and couldn't eat anymore. I had a fajita chicken burrito with no onions, peppers, or grilled chicken. Then my other daughter had a flauta and said the tortillas tasted like citrus. She couldn't eat more than a few bites either. Then I tried to speak with the gentleman up front to let him know. My wife and I love this place. A hole in the wall tucked behind a donut place near Space Center and Bay Area Blvd. The lunch specials are priced right, all under ten dollars. The green sauce has some avocado in it and is delicious. I love the tasty cheese enchiladas and my wife usually gets the combo fajita lunch special. It's very good and solid Tex-Mex for a good price. We've eaten here several times since it opened under the new name. Lucho's is run by the children of the owner of Don Picot's who didn't want them to use the name. The menu is pretty much the same as are the recipes. Prices are up, but by about the same amount that you'll find anywhere else. We always like the food and like it even more now. Took my wife and son there. We ordered a platter for 3 that had a little bit of everything. Everything on there was spot on terrific. The only thing that made the experience better, was the service. A step up perhaps since they were Don Picos. The walls are painted, restrooms are actually kinda sorta clean and I think remodeled, and the filthy tourist souvenir-quality parrots hanging from the ceiling are gone. Well, I actually miss the parrots--they were unique and it was kind of like hanging out in a pigeon-infested park--never knew what might drop on you.... The lunch specials seem the same, but with different names. Great lunch special prices, and the regular prices are better than most Tex-Mex places. Margarita happy hour prices have jumped from a buck or so to $3, but at least they add a teensy bit of tequila now. The did keep the same mugs with the same huge indentation in the bottom that takes up probably a quarter of what you think you're getting. :-) They are good though, and get better with more. They seem to have lost the glowering gent who always stood between the end of the bar and the kitchen, and whose job seemed to be to stare at the patrons and make sure they did not abscond with the mismatched tableware. Chips are ok, but at least warm. The rojo salsa is a bit spicier than before (fine by this gringo) and the salsa verde is very good. I'll have to go back more to get my fix of Spanish language soccer on the TV behind the bar. Great for lunch, not so sure its a place to take your date.... read more
