    Stroganoff lubi
    Aliyah S.

Seen this place numerous times while driving by and always wondered what they had to offer, my boyfriend told me to try it and I'm so glad he did. The mozzarella lubi is his all time favorite but honestly I have yet to have one that wasn't yummy. The chili lubi is great if you love a little spice in your food and the stroganoff one is just a all around comfort food. Everything about these sandwiches is just yummy! After I finished one I instantly wanted another because it's that good! Hole in the wall place but the food is definitely worth to stop by.

The exterior of Lubi's, a Jacksonville rite of passage since 1969. Located on Beach Boulevard just east of 295. Drive-through on the right.

After more than two decades on the First Coast we finally tried Lubi's, which is one of the most beloved local sandwich shops in Jacksonville. I had the Lubi's classic sub "all the way" except for mayonnaise, which is a steamed sub on a long hot dog-like bun with ground sirloin, onions, mustard, Kraft American cheese and hot jalapeño peppers so spicy my companion tried one bite and had fight-or-flight response. A sign advises you have to eat the steamed subs with a knife and fork and that was accurate. The bun is woefully unequipped to carry this glorious slop of steak, peppers and cheese. Breakfast was available at 11 a.m. so my companion got eggs, cheese and bacon in a pita and called it the best breakfast sandwich in town. Somebody should've told me sooner Lubi's was this good.

Famous lubi with macaroni salad - sandwhich packed fresh meat flavor, and all the delicious sauce/condiments!

Sometimes it's not about the stars, but rather something that catches your attention. I've always passed by Lubi's, but never stepped in. However, on that Saturday, I decided to finally give this place a shot. Going in, the restaurant was quiet, but clean and had those classic fast casual food vibes! I ordered the famous Lubi with everything on it: meat, American cheese, mayo mustard, hot, and sweet peppers with a side of macaroni! Moving on with my review, the sandwhich overall was very tasty! For starters, meat tasted very fresh, and condiments plus sauces contrasted really well! My only critique was that this sandwhich is pretty soggy given its steamed, and would be perfect if the bread had more weight. Also, macaroni was just mayo and noodles, but wasn't good nor bad. Despite these things, the meal was a real value for your buck! And overall, I'd be down to try the other sandwiches as they looked really good! Don't be shy to go by the ratings on this place, my final Verdict- 4/5

The Famous Lubi with added hot peppers

Lubi's is a hidden gem that I stumbled upon while in Jacksonville one Saturday. Blink you and might miss it while driving by, I'm glad I saw it and pulled over to research more. The online reviews sold me and I knew I had to check out this institution. I ordered the Famous Lubi for $8.99 and it had incredible flavor: ground beef, American cheese, fresh onions, and all served on a steamed sub roll. I added some of their famous homemade hot peppers and they really made the flavor pop. The Lubi was hot, messy, dripping all over your fingers, and absolutely delectable. Do NOT leave Jacksonville without getting yourself a Lubi. You will not regret it.

The lubi's were delicious but the ambiance was very disappointing. They had very offensive rap music playing loudly in the restaurant. This is not the same place I remember that was family friendly.

The staff was not friendly. Even the signs posted around the restaurant have an aggressive nature to them.

Rather underwhelming. Very unfriendly and unhelpful staff. I was making my order (as a first time visitor) and the employee kept trying to correct me and basically made me feel stupid while trying to tell her what I wanted on my sub. The shop itself needs some TLC. It's old, uninviting and not very clean. No staff were wearing masks or gloves while preparing food. I could go on with more but I'll stop there. The sandwich I got was ok. Ordered the camel rider and although it had a decent flavor it was extremely wet and soggy. I paid $11 for my sandwich and a drink which I didn't think translated into the quality/size of the meal received. Apparently this is the last Lubi's location around and now I understand why. First and last visit for this guy.

A mozzarella lubi with mayo, mustard, and hot peppers. Side of potato salad.

We planned to dine in, but I assumed you would have to order and then sit. However I was pleasantly surprised to learn its full service. You can pick your seat and then someone from the wait staff will bring you menus, etc. if you are ordering to-go, you can of course. There are several booths and tables to choose from for seating. There is also outside seating. We ordered a large Big Al. On the tables, they have crushed red pepper, grated Parmesan, Italian seasoning (or maybe dried oregano) garlic salt, regular salt, and pepper in a condiment caddy. The pizza stand is on top for those who order a pie. The pizza came out pretty quickly after we ordered it and it was hot and fresh with that nice cheese stretch. It tasted so good - very clearly freshly made with quality, clean ingredients. The crust is also very much worth eating! I like the end eating my slice with the top crust if it's crispy (but not too crunchy) and theirs was perfect. Our waiter was very nice and checked in on us a few minutes after we got our pizza to ensure all was well. This is a great spot to stop in for good quality pizza if you're in the mood.

So all in all, it's pretty much what they advertise. For my taste, the sauce is a little underseasoned, but it has a very nice tomato flavor. All in all not a bad place to have some pizza meatballs, and hang out for a while. They did away with the lasagna, which is a little strange not to have lasagna and an Italian place which cost them a star in my opinion. And they do offer a 10% military discount!

We started with Hummus and Tata Chips, which was crispy pita chips with a standard (but delicious) hummus. The Tata chips had great flavor, like Stacy's Pita Chips but better! The firat course was White Bean Fahsulia, which was a rich and hearty bean stew that packed huge flavor! Second course was Falafel with Tahini Sauce. These were a nice little bite between dishes. The center of the falafel was light, fluffy, and flavorful! Course 3 was Masaka-Ah served with Timan Asfur Rice. While this dish was good, it was my least favorite of the evening. I ate half of the stew and passed the rest off to my husband, who loved it! Course 4 brought us Dolma's served with Roasted Vegetables. I LOVE stuffed grape leaves and these were seriously on point! Tart and tangy up front followed by a whole lot of savory. Course 5, my favorite, was the Spicy Curry Chicken served with White Rice. This was the dish that made me fall in love with Fast Eddy's food and had me coming back for more. I took a couple bites and got a to-go container to enjoy this later at home. Finally, we reached the end of our dinner and Course 6, dessert, came out. Freshly made, sweet and decadent, traditional baklava. Filo dough, crushed walnuts, butter, and honey. This just melted away once it hit my mouth. I don't eat a whole lot of sweets but this had me closing my eyes and enjoying every bite. Every time I've visited Fast Eddy's the staff has been amazing, friendly, and hospitable. And of course, the place being completely decked out with rock and metal music memorabilia, i feel right at home here. Oh, and there's never a time where I leave that place without an order of the Pasta Anatoli to-go!

Eureka (I have found it)! Hollywood in Florida!!!!…read more JUST like Dr. Indiana Jones combing through the jungles seeking his ancient museum artifacts, I was navigating the curvy wilds of the Jacksonville Southpoint area, located near I-95 and JTB. The best things in life require some effort to build your appetite, and whereas I did not collect a golden idol like Dr. Jones, I was rewarded instead with a cheerful new friend and one of the absolute FRESHEST sandwiches in JAX! Nestled between the sparse woods and surrounding offices you will find happy, loyal diners who fill Hollywood Heroes and Subs each lunchtime to the point where the line stretches out the door. I had just seen the last of the lunch crowd smiling and saying goodbye for the day to our energetic and upbeat host, Founder, sandwich artist and Jacksonville native Kevin Porter, an actor turned restaurateur -- known for roles including "Lazer" in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, plus appearances in Daredevil and General Hospital. Something that cannot be "acted" around was his genuine welcome and desire to roll out the red Hollywood carpet for all who make the journey (yes, it's a REAL red carpet)!! This sweet shop is the perfect size, and has a significant amount of Hollywood memorabilia all around to keep you engaged while chatting with Kevin as he works his magic. And what he produced was a treasure of cheese and meats that made me forget about whatever might have been chasing me through those woods to get there! J/K In between wonderful conversation with Kevin, each bite of my MASSIVE "The Towering Inferno" hot hero (pepperoni, Genoa salami, cappy and melted provolone) on fresh baked Village Bread made me realize just how huge and delicious this thing was. Kevin promised that the one pictured is exactly what every customer will get...he prides himself on highly generous portions at fair prices...and man, did he deliver!! I would have been completely satisfied with HALF, but NO!!!! There sat its twin, begging for sacrifice to the stomach Gods. I was only too happy to oblige! The owner Kevin = engaging, friendly, talented with his craft, makes you feel like you drove through the woods to come home to your happy place. The ambiance = bright, colorful, great memorabilia, puts you as the star of the show. The sandwiches = creative in name and product with fresh being the operative word, this sandwich hit above its price point and I can't wait to try to the rest of the menu! So no, I didn't get chased by a boulder, or leave with Dr. Jones' golden idol, but I did get a Golden Belly from my experience, and the knowledge of why hundreds of hungry lunch- goers seek this "Temple of Delish" every day!! Crack the whip and corral your family into the car for this absolute treat in the core of "ancient Jacksonville!!"
