Like all places, there's a bit of an upsell, but they aren't pushy, they explain things well, and they take no for an answer. In my car, there was oil leaking from the housing before I took it in, and they tightened everything up and let me know what to do if it started again. They wanted to sell me an air filter (they showed me that mine was dirty, it didn't feel sneaky), and when I opted instead to buy one elsewhere and put it in myself, they didn't try to make me change my mind and in fact showed me how to do it. With my Jeep, I was quite overdue for service, and they were really helpful putting together some discounts for things I actually needed to make it more affordable (my signal light was out, my air filter was mush, and I actually needed an engine flush). Not huge discounts, but a couple bucks here and there, which made a difference. (Protip: most vehicles will never need an engine flush in their lifetime... Google it before you go to decide for yourself, but they will offer it, and it costs $50. Most experts say you only need if you have substantial gaps in maintenance). I don't fault them for the upsell, they're a business, but I never felt like any of it was sketchy and they never made me feel stupid or pressured. They do a very thorough inspection and let you know what is going on in your vehicle. They don't have super late hours, so sometimes it can be a rush to get there after work, but the wait is usually not bad once you get there. They have TVs you can watch from your car. The staff have all been extremely friendly. I'm so happy I found them, I've had nothing but bad (mediocre at best) experiences from lube shops before. So refreshing!

When I went into Kal Tires to purchase new tires (the same season) they told me the alignment was off and the direction of the treads were completely wrong which Downtown Auto completed. Waste of money. This same auto repair shop told me they could not open the glove compartment but that they would have to break the lock and replace it with a new one that would cost me about $200. I refused the service. A day after my mom opened it herself with a screw driver! When even trained car technicians could not open the glove compartment, my mom did without breaking the lock. Was it they wanted to me to pay for more for nothing? Why would I even I go back when now I'm suspicious of possibly getting scammed (if not already)? The bottom line is they simply cared so little about my car and the service they provided me at the time, how can I ever think of going back? The service was awful to say the least and I did not feel they cared enough for my business or any returned business I would have given them in the long term. The only person that was kind was the receptionist during my first and last experience with Downtown Auto Edmonton repair shop. When servicing is done with care, that would be the auto repair shop you should take your business too. And in my experience, this ISN'T THE ONE. Consumer Beware! So when the bunny's car had issues and needed some diagnosis and loving, she had trepidations, and I puffed up to help out and run interference (even though my hardware experience is centered around something many nanometers smaller than an oil dipstick). Neither of us needn't have worried. The staff at Ital Motors were reassuring on the phone, honored our Groupon, saw us the same day as the check engine light turned on, gave us advice and recommendations about not only the issue at hand but helpfully triaged the next needed repairs on the bunny's car. No pressure, no frisson of of sleazy, just well-communicated car love. Highly recommended.

I called Economy Muffler and spoke to Arnold who got me in right away for a quote. He was kind, knowledgeable and honest. He had me come see where the problem was and explained what was needed clearly. They scheduled me in right away and in a flash, my car was ready to go and sounded great!! Plus the price was awesome! It was under $200 including parts AND labor. I am happy to support a business in my community but even more so knowing first hand that the staff and service is great!

The advice was to get new tires next Winter due to excessive wear. I was shown the damage and completely agree. I use to work in a garage, so I know an old tire when I see it. Both calls I made to the shop were handled nicely by the team there, especially Kelsey. I immediately felt comfortable having the work done at Good News. Kelsey let me know part way through the day that one of the recommended repairs was not required, but a different fix would be needed. Kelsey and the Good News team managed the change in plan efficiently, had the quotes ready for me, and I felt they gave me sound advice to make good choices. My car was ready on time, within the expected cost, and is running really well after the repair. I would not hesitate to return to Good News for further work, and highly recommend this repair shop!

They got it up on the hoist, and showed me that it was indeed a loose heat shield. It just needed a quick weld. So, 10 minutes later, the service tech parks my car out front, comes in and says "she's all done." I reach for my wallet, and he says, "no charge. Come back when you really need something." I was stunned. I said I would be back, and I'd tell everyone I knew to go there as well. This is part two of that promise.
