Bought a new vehicle at Northstar Hyundai last fall. Told the Salesman my number one requirement…read more He assured me the vehicle had the features I required. Turns out it did not. I requested assistance with a satisfactory resolution and they just tried to squeeze extra money out of me. Very disappointing. I do not recommend Northstar Hyundai.

A true nightmare new car buying experience. I now own a complete lemon that's still under warranty,…read moreplus I'm $10,000 deep in legal bills. I factory-ordered a brand-new Santa Fe PHEV, which has a verified drivetrain vibration that Hyundai mechanics have acknowledged but cannot fix. As soon as I involved a lawyer, they backtracked and claimed this was a 'normal characteristic of the vehicle.' This doesn't even cover the two incidents where the vehicle endangered our lives: once when it completely shut down without warning while turning left in front of oncoming traffic, and another due to unintended acceleration--the second of which the dealer never documented. To make matters worse, I requested they store the vehicle in their back lot until the issues were resolved, only to be told I'd be charged $20 per day for storage. So now, I'm stuck making payments, paying insurance, accruing interest on an SUV that has been sitting unused in my garage for over eight months. One which I cannot sell. On top of that, I've had to purchase a second vehicle as a replacement. An ongoing nightmare. To anyone reading this: do yourself a favor and never buy a Hyundai. They do not honour their warranties or stand by their products, and their dealers are nothing short of crooks.

I have a hard time verifying which work was done or not, some visible items I can see they always do such as lubricating door hinges at every B service. but I don't know if everything claimed and paid for was actually completed. Seems like I walk away with very little inspection work. I just don't trust anymore. This is typical from most Auto shops, however, most don't claim that higher quality standard and all the multi-point inspections, also you don't pay as much for them. I would sooner just walk in and expect the bare bones oil change, rather than given false sense of security with multi-point inspections completed. If you ask for extra checks on certain parts, you may be charged for it, although you are already paying for the 'inspections' and 'road test' in the higher end service packages "B and Above".. I still have slightly higher trust in the quality of work for repair work, although I had to return for a re-work on some electrical, I have trusted their knowledge and expertise of their service manager and their senior tech's in the back. the friendly smile and great customer interaction is superb, the staff is great to deal with, and all walk around with smiles. Very happy place to visit, and I always enjoy my cup of coffee at their shop. So even though my trust on some quality of work has eroded in some aspects, they are always eager to have me come back - i just wish they didn't cost so much and I wasn't double paying for things that should have been inspected and captured in the inspections and ongoing maintenance. The only way that accountability would be driven home and the shop would ensure they inspected properly as claimed, would be if they took on the risk of repairing any damages due to missed preventative inspections and maintenance. I would love to see shops offering accepting that kind of risk, it's easy and a conflict of interest for a shop to tell you yah they did the inspection and charge you for it, but if they were accepting the risk and accountability with it, then they would make sure they do the job right when the promise so much. I would pay a lot more if I knew I was getting value and peace of mind, but right now it feels sometimes I am paying for nothing, and then I will be coming back to pay more for repairs. if you balance all things considered, Superb customer service, loaner cars, great coffee, friendly smiles, with ok repair & maintenance work, and weak inspections - they are still an "OK" shop... hence why I moved it up to a 3/5. Short of validating the work they claimed they did at another shop, or watching them do the work, I don't know how I can regain trust now.

I returned the vehicle to the dealership immediately. After their inspection, I was informed that the steering wheel angle sensor was broken and the lower control arm was damaged. The dealership claimed these issues occurred after delivery--even though the vehicle was returned the same day--and insisted that I pay for the repairs. Given that these mechanical parts could not have failed immediately under normal use, I raised my concerns. The dealership's sales manager, R.C., refused to issue a refund and instead asked me to cover the repair costs. Based on this experience, I would not recommend purchasing a vehicle from this dealership.

I bought my KIA used from a different dealership, and only received one key when I did, and until recently that was not a problem. A few days ago however I lost my one and only key on a Sunday while walking around the city. The next day I towed my car to North Edmonton Kia so they could cut me a new key. I was quoted $390+ for a new key. Shocking how expensive these keys are, but I was resigned to pay it. I need my car. However, about two hours after I dropped my car off I was told that unfortunately when my car was manufactured, the code that would be needed to cut me a new transponder key was not attached to my car's VIN! As such, there was no possible way for the dealership to cut me a key that would work with my car. I was then quoted $900+ to replace the ignition and all of the locks on my car so I could get working keys. Needless to say, I was floored. I am a student and unable to spend $900 in one go! I called Kia Canada, they were shocked that the code was missing, as were the staff at the dealership. It was a bizarre and VERY stressful few days. The day after I dropped my car off, Evan from Parts and Service called me and said they NEEDED to replace all of my locks and the ignition in order for me to be able to drive my car. But, he said he would only charge me $200 for the whole thing! Amazing! It would be ready in a few days. The day after Evan gave ma call that my car was ready for pickup. When I arrived Evan informed me that I didn't need to pay a single thing, and that Kia Canada had accepted his claim that it was a factory mistake (which it was!). He didn't have to do that work for me, but he did. I walked away with two new keys and a smile on my face. THANK YOU EVAN. And thank you to anyone else who was involved in helping me so much! This broke student is forever in your debt.

I was told I wouldn't get a better deal anywhere else and assured that I could get my deposit back if I decided not to purchase. The price they quoted me was much higher than MSRP, which didn't sit right with me. I decided to check with another Kia dealership, and I'm glad I did--the price there was significantly lower and saved me $8,000 over the 4-year loan term. When I went back to North Edmonton Kia to ask for my deposit back, they refused to return it. The manager's response was to offer me a longer loan term instead of acknowledging that I couldn't afford the car. That felt manipulative and dishonest. This is bad business and bad service. I felt pressured, misled, and taken advantage of. Do not trust the manager. Do not trust this dealership.

They have a very friendly and professional team, and are willing to go above and beyond for their customers. One stand-out moment that I'de be remise to mention is when Lukasz K. That number can protect you from situations like mine. Here's what happened. I was interested in getting the Toyota loyalty discount through Toyota Financial Services. I discussed it with the sales team and clearly told Jimmy about it. We signed the paperwork and were asked to wait in the lounge around 8:00 PM. Later we were called back and told the "good news" that everything was ready for signing. My wife asked about the interest rate, and the response was "we'll deal with it later." That already felt strange. Then I asked Jimmy if I got approved for the Toyota loyalty program. His response was: "YOU ARE DENIED at Toyota Credit." He said we were instead approved through Scotiabank. We felt disappointed but were also excited about the car, so we went ahead and signed the papers. On Monday, I called Toyota Financial Services directly. They told me that as long as my information hadn't changed significantly, my profile should still be good. They also said if I could provide the reference number, they could explain the decision. Wednesday I called the dealership and asked them to look into it. Thursday they submitted another application to Toyota Financial Services. Friday I got approved -- with a LOWER interest rate. So I called the finance director to express my disappointment. That's when I found out something shocking: the Toyota Financial Services office closes at 6:00 PM. Remember when we were sitting in the dealership at 8:00 PM and Jimmy told me my application was DENIED? That was impossible. My application was never denied. The status was simply waiting for assessment. Jimmy -- when I asked you directly and you told me "YOU ARE DENIED at Toyota Finance," do you feel proud about lying just to push the deal through? The difference in the interest rate over 72 months is about $3,000. For the dealership it's nothing. For the customer, it's thousands of dollars extra out of their pocket. My advice to everyone: Always ask for your application reference number and call Toyota Financial Services yourself. From my experience, it usually takes about a day to process an application. If you get "approved" within minutes but not through Toyota, you should seriously question what's going on.
