After polling friends who were Volks Folks, the number 1 recommendation was Dubsport, so with a needed tune up looming, I paid a visit. Dubsport is just the sort of place I love. One guy running a bustling little shop, who offers excellent service and value, and is willing to answer your questions honestly. Richard was extremely helpful and accommodating, and did a wonderful job on the car. On a couple of occasions since, he has helped me with inquiries and minor issues quickly and painlessly, and I am now a diehard Dubsport fan. I recommend this spot highly, if you are suffering from dealership abuse, or you just love your Volkswagen / Audi and want someone who will treat it right.

I have sent several friends there and they are nice enough to tell you ahead of time if it is worth it. A friends transmission was failing and he let her know how much the fix would cost and the fact that replacing the solenoid as it was saying would most probably not solve it and it would require a full trans replacement. So she could decide ahead of time that it was not worth it to start down that road on an old vehicle that the repairs would cost more than it would be worth. Dealers would have done the initial repair knowing that it would just have been pouring money into a hole.

First and most importantly, Chase and his team are honest and hard working. They are extremely busy but always make time to diagnose and give second opinions. They have saved me money and given me solid advice multiple times when dealerships were leaving me astray. Most recently Chase and his team helped me to advocate (aka fight) Hyundai to get a replacement on my engine. Chase provided me all the documentation that Hyundai required not once, but twice, and in paper and in e-mail after Hyundai "misplaced" it. Chase did both of these requests same day. Chase has seen me at my worst (in tears) completely overwhelmed with car stress (and I don't speak car) and also completely flustered trying to explain what felt off with my vehicle when I seriously was not describing it well. The team at Gate is always courteous and treat me and all the customers I have ever seen with respect. The only limitation or downside with Gate is that they are really busy - and for good reason! So you may have to wait a bit for an appointment but they will always treat you right! PS They offer a program to store your tires for you! These guys replaced a catalytic converter on my daughters car last week. The very next day she drove it as far as Red Deer before the check engine light came on again:/ She stopped at a nearby shop and got them to read the code. Catalytic converter failed again. I contacted KD, the owner of Icon, who said it was still fine for her to take to Banff and to bring it in when she got back. It drove like shit for her all weekend, absolutely no peace of mind!! So yesterday they had it back there and discovered the head gasket was leaking!! A quick google search tells me that a very common reason for a catalytic converter to fail in the first place is typically caused by a separate issue and a gasket leak is a likely cause:/ considering the new converter went within an hour of driving it again it's safe to assume the leak was already there. So now her $5000 car needs a $3000 repair (gasket) plus a new catalytic converter for $1100. I'm not willing to pay for that big repair and had my mechanic done his due diligence to find the root cause of the failed converter I wouldnt be out the $1300 for the original useless catalytic converter replacement and inspection!! They have refused to give me a refund and are not admitting to any wrong doing sending my daughter off on her first road trip in an unsafe vehicle!! Dont bring your vehicles here. Find a thorough, reliable, TRUSTWORTHY mechanic instead.

They are genuinely not happy until you are. Clear explainations of problems, careful tracking of your vehicle history, friendly and skilled staff, willingness to refer you if someone else could do a job cheaper/faster/better. They are particulary good at recommending the cheapest effective options. Once the solution was to hit a part with a wrench; it worked, and they charged me nothing. On a couple of occasions where repairs were not spot-on, they fixed the problem without hesitation. Case in point: I had a starter that chronically failed over a few years. I only paid for it once, but they replaced it and found the root cause of the problem. You owe it to yourself to check them out.

We were referred to Balwin Collision by our insurer and we got lucky. All of our dealings with Balwin Collision were excellent. The manager was very friendly and helpful and helped us through the process in evaluating the damage to our car and getting it fixed. The work on our car was done quickly and everything looks better than before. I know the outside of a car has to be cleaned before painting any of it but our whole car looked like it had a new paint job. It looks great! The last thing I expected was for the car to be cleaned inside but the interior was spotless, even the trunk! I swear they had to have steam cleaned everything. For obvious reasons, I hope I never have to use Balwin Collision's services again, but it is Edmonton after all, so I just might. And if I do need an autobody shop again, I won't hesitate to call these guys.
