    Grilled Octopus (Polvo Grelhado)
    Madow N.

It would have been 4 stars had it not been for one thing ...but before that... - The food was good - grilled octopus was my favorite- tender & flavorful. - The service was pleasant and attentive. - Parking is easy - has a parking lot. - No reservations needed for a party of 2 on a Sunday evening. Plenty of tables available. Back to get one thing - they added a service charge to the check but failed to include that on the original check and did not provide the original check after charging our cards. And the service fee was 24%, not the18% they claimed it was. The whole thing seemed shady. Unfortunate because we enjoyed the food and service, but this left a sour taste.

If you want a Cape Verdean food fix Luanda's a good option. Typical of Cape Verdean restaurants service is slow but friendly. Done come here if you are starving but expect to have a few drinks with friends while waiting a bit longer for your food. I had the octopus which is pretty good though i liked them a bit more crispy but the flavor was good. We also ordered the chicken guzzards and cachupa which were pretty good too.

Yesterday for lunch I had my favorite dish from @luandabrockton Chicken Natas (white heavy cream sauce) BombBomb accompanied with a Mango Caipirinha (Brazilian drink) Always delicious- I got to chop it up with @jaysenluanda and @vice_ant 2 young men that I adore our conversations

One of the worst restaurants in Brockton I do not recommend it to anyone I order a octopus meal they send me a appetizer for 25 dollar one lemonade I payed 43 dollar for both of them Last time I order I found fly on my food And I text the manager he didn't reply nicely

    Consumption fee of 18%

Luanda does not have to worry about me ever stepping foot in this restaurant again. My friend and I went for lunch on Saturday at 1:15 PM. We left after 3. By the time we got our menus we were the only customers in the restaurant. It took an hour for our food to get to the table and it was lukewarm. She ordered six chicken wings with a side of mashed potatoes that tasted like they were instant potatoes and I had a breakfast sandwich that consisted of a fried egg on mini Portuguese rolls, thinly sliced chorizo and plantains. I asked for my egg to be fried hard, but the yolk was soft, The young lady at the entrance desk was having a full on conversation at the top of her lungs with a gentleman sitting at the bar on the other side of the restaurant so we couldn't even hear ourselves talk. The waitress came to the table and she also was having a conversation with somebody in her earbud. Very unprofessional! The food was expensive and on top of that, they added an 18% consumption fee which I was told was for the cook. The waitress still was trying to show me where the tip section was on the POS machine so I could leave her a tip, too! There was a woman there, who carried herself with a managerial air. I think she might've been one of the owners, but at no point did she come over to our table to see how we were doing, or if we needed anything. It was our first and last time there. If I could give negative stars, I would!

No mask during mandatory government order to wear one.

This restaurant takes way to long to prepare food. It will not even be busy and you will have to wait 15 to 20 min for your order to take out. This is after you called it in and didn't go to the restaurant until 15 min or more after you placed the order. Most recently when I ordered I was told 5 min after I arrived. I timed it, 38 min later I had my food. This was one regular entree. However if you are friends with the workers you get food quickly, 6 different people came in for take out, shake hands with the person at the bar and within 5 min they have there food. This place is more of a friends only type. Also you are stuck because you already paid for the order. Heads up no masks or masks off most of time by one of the owners as well, See picture

I've tried Luanda once before, but only for take-out and I promised myself I'd be back for a full dining experience as the atmosphere was lively when I picked up my order. The next time I visited was with my friend as she recommended this spot again to eat. I ordered the Salmao Grelhado which is a grilled salmon and she ordered the Bife A Casa which is a steak topped with a fried egg. The salmon was perfectly cooked and I would definitely order again. The restuarant was a little empty the random night we went it, but I know it's a hot spot once the weekend hits. Besides, the background music almost had me out my seat to do a little two-step ( I love CV/ angolan music). I think the next time I visit will be during their Sunday brunch as there is live music as well. I've never had katchupa, but I'm looking to gain a full experience of tasting it and hearing the music!

We arrived a little less than an hour before closing time but we were still happily served. Let me be clear, this is a Ugandan restaurant. Okay, moving on. Our food came out, steaming hot and fresh- nothing seemed like it was reheated (try eating reheated posho y'all). We stayed long after the restaurant was closed to finish our food which really gave me the real homey Ugandan vibes. There were also a bunch of Ugandan uncles in the corner just chatting it up the entire time which was fun. Also, there's a store with Ugandan products, raw frozen cassava/matooke, bitenge, and some other Ugandan staples like Royco, Blueband, Majaani, etc!

I can see from the reviews that some people are expecting a smooth assembly line operation like you might expect if you were eating at a cafeteria in Den Bosch in the Netherlands--which I've done. This ain't that. But bring your patience and adaptability and a smile and you'll be rewarded with a hearty country meal East African style. If you want anything spicy ask for it. In the 3rd world in my experience my Anglo looks meant they leave out the spiciness unless you ask otherwise. The vibe is like a Ugandan version of a British village pub full of locals socializing. If you want to meet every Ugandan expat in the Boston area, come on by. But while most of the people were Ugandan we obvious non-Ugandans were greeted with open arms. We asked them to just bring us dinner, and so they did. One interesting thing was the Indian influence--Uganda had had a large Indian community there until Idi Amin appropriated everything they had and kicked them out of the country. I guess some? many? have returned since Idi Amin was kicked out himself. So among the more obviously indigenous chicken stew and cooked plantains as a major starch was samosas and chapatis, much as you'd expect to find in an Indian restaurant. Portions were so big I got two and a half additional meals out of it. I've tried a lot of cuisines--I live in the SF Bay Area which is one of the most multicultural places on Earth--so for me this wasn't all that exotic. Ethiopian food is a lot moreso and a lot hotter, for example. So someone who's only mildly adventurous should do fine here. Actually Cajun cooking from Louisiana is more exotic, frankly. And hotter. And there's nothing on Karubu's menu like that Gulf Cajun fave "Bucket of Mud Bugs" (crawfish). Both my wife and our local friend who dined with us enjoyed our meal, and I look forward to returning on our next trip to Greater Boston. Interestingly both one of our Uber drivers and the night clerk at our hotel were Ugandan and familiar with Karibu and very pleased that we planned to dine there. A lot of the infrastructure people we deal with as we travel are really very interesting people if you talk with them and don't just treat them like they're invisible. And it can make your travels more interesting than just going somewhere and doing the standard tourist things.
