For my last visit, I wanted white tips with dip powder, and the manicurist I had didn't feel comfortable hand painting the white lines on at the end and had someone else help. I really appreciated that because in my experience at other salons, they fully go through knowing they don't know what they're doing, and I end up hating my nails. The staff is also extremely friendly and remembered me after coming in only two times. They rarely ever have a wait and always try their best to accommodate your requests. This gave me pause to seek out another business. Heck, after clipping my nails and toes for 5+ months and going sans polish, I was ready. NextDoor posted a fabulous shout out to K Salon (on Simmons Street in the Old Village in Mt. Pleasant). My interest was piqued. I checked out the business on Yelp and Google ... all positive ... and went on to Facebook. I liked Kelly's FB presence and her Covid-19 protocol. This operation would be a different experience for me. Kelly rents a room in a small, rather old fashioned hair salon. I liked this. I didn't want to deal with many of the 'covid' issues I would face in a busy nail salon. I made an appointment for a mani-pedi and was set. I brought my own polish, etc. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't anxious when I pulled up onto the lot. Kelly met me outside. Though we were both masked, I could feel her smile. I began to relax and we settled in. Kelly knows nails. After 15 years with OPI, she knew what she was doing. She was immaculate ... disinfecting everything multiple times ... and proficient. Unfortunately, my experience was the opposite. The technician who did my manicure seemed rushed from the start. My cuticles were trimmed so aggressively that they were bleeding, and the polish application was sloppy. When she finished, she immediately got up and walked to the back and never returned. I was left sitting there and had to pick up my jacket and purse and carry them myself to the drying table. In the process, I smudged a couple of nails. I tried to find the technician to fix them but couldn't locate her. At that point, I just wanted to leave. It's disappointing because the salon clearly has talented staff, but the inconsistency in service really took away from what should have been a pleasant visit. I hope management addresses this so all clients receive the same level of care.
