Lox Five Ways for 3

Delightful experience. We'll definitely be back! Staff was super friendly and great, and the food was delicious.

This is a super cute spot for a quiet brunch! We were given a little appetizer bite which was a nice touch, but the lox was really good! It's not my favourite bagel spot in the city because the bagels were a bit hard, but worth checking out for the location!

Situated on the second floor of the museum is a gem of a restaurant. As you enter the second floor, a wonderful aroma emits from the doors. It smells like an everything bagel! After we had sat down and had our orders taken, the Chef comes out to welcome us, which was a wonderful touch and made us feel like valued guests. Our original lox bagels come out and they are simply phenomenal. Quite literally the best Lox I have ever had. The smoked salmon was noticeably of high quality and the bagel was perfectly toasted. The Chef even personally brought our bagels out to us! We were lucky to sample the baked goods on our way out and everything was amazing. The chocolate babka and cheese danish were my favorites. Everything from the outstanding service to the delicious food makes this place worth a stop. If I lived in NYC, I would be a regular here.

What a strange experience. To get to Lox, you've gotta clear security and head up the stairs of the Jewish Heritage Museum; no admission required. We got there right when it opened, and it was really unclear what we were supposed to do. We sat ourselves, and were greeted probably 10 minutes later by an employee informing us that because they are a fully kosher kitchen, we had to wait until the rabbi got there--not a problem at all, and maybe even added to the experience. It was just odd that we weren't addressed for so long after coming in. We had pretty mediocre service throughout, despite the place being near empty. We had fine food, but weren't wowed by anything. My favorite part was that my everything bagel had the good stuff on both the top and bottom of the bagel. Definitely a game changer. Even so, not enough to warrant a return visit.

We were looking for a kosher restaurant that would be quiet enough for us to talk comfortably with each other. We sat down around 11:00 a.m. without a wait on the outdoor patio. There was a nice view of the Hudson river and the Statue of Liberty. Just below the patio was a lovely rock garden where we could walk in the shade. I had a nice challah French toast and my family had various lox bagels. We were happy sharing our breakfasts and had animated conversation without difficulty. Afterwards I briefly viewed some of the museum photos and wall quotes.

I was super excited to try this place considering I love me a good bagel, lox, and cream cheese, but I was disappointed in not only the service, but the food as well. To begin with, our waiter (clearly not Jewish) which was fine- but had no knowledge of the menu or anything related to it. For example, I asked him if the bread was hamotzi and he looked at me like I was crazy. I really think if you are going to hire goyim to work in your restaurants you need to properly train them. On the food note - the bagel, lox, and cream cheese was nothing special expect that it had a cute little pickle on top. I also ordered under the "traditional favorites" the cheese blintzes and minsk matzo babka which were not favorites to me. I will only be going back to try their "lox five ways" platter which of course will make the perfect Instagram.

We enjoyed a delightful meal at LOX on Christmas Day, where we were trying to escape Christmas among our people. We dined at the cafe and then saw a Yiddish play. It was a memorable experience for our family. The menu in itself was incredible -- creative and inspired gourmet twists on Eastern European Jewish favorites. The food was delicious, presentation attractive and service excellent. The smoked fish and caviar dishes were of the highest quality. I loved the buttery challah and delicate blini that came as accompaniments along with fresh vegetables and pickles. My mom was still savoring her memory of how good whitefish salad was a week later, and my dad still dreaming about the delectable mon (poppyseed) pastry. We tried chocolate babka for dessert as well and it was rich and flaky, a perfect rendition of the classic cake. Unlike most Jewish delis, service was very good here. They enthusiastically accommodated all our requests. The waiter was a cutie. There is no cocktail menu but they have a full bar. I ordered a mojito and the chef himself brought out a gorgeous drink artfully arranged on an island of ice, with a generous extra serving that my dad enjoyed. A lovely lunch all in all.

I love Lox! This is my second time at Lox and I will say it again. I love Lox! We needed to buy some new plates for the holidays and instead of going to a local Judaica store we prefer to go to the museum store. This way we are supporting the museum and the preservation of Jewish history. Also, we came for Lox. Vodka Infused Lox. Pastrami Lox. We shared a sesame bagel with cream cheese and vodka infused lox. It was insane. We also sampled the pastrami lox which was delicious. The hubby thought it was as good as the vodka infused lox, I am not so sure. They had an amazing looking Russian coffee cake that I think I will try the next time I need a Lox fix. Love this place!!!

Chocolate Babka ($6)

I don't really go to museums unless awesome restaurants open inside of them, so I found myself walking to the tip of Manhattan to try a new deli counter in the Museum of Jewish Heritage. Coincidentally, the last time I set foot in a museum was to go to the basement of the Jewish Museum uptown to try the new location of Russ & Daughter's Cafe. This time, way down in Battery Park City, I went to the 2nd floor of the Museum of Jewish Heritage to find an empty cafe serving similar deli fare. At the very difficult to google "Lox", you place your order at the counter and you seat yourself at one of the tables in the spacious, bright room overlooking the museum garden. I tried the Whitefish Salad Sandwich ($13), which came on a delicious onion roll that was loaded generous with fish. Next time, one of the several namesake lox sandwiches would be a good choice. I also tried the Chocolate Babka ($6), which was incredible. They serve it warm, so chocolate was oozing out of the bottom onto the plate when they brought it over. Different from most of the best babkas in NYC, this one was especially soft and moist, with plenty of chocolate everywhere. Breads Bakery might still hold the title, but this was a great rendition. I can't say I'd return here regularly since it's so remote, but in terms of museum dining, it's better than anything you could hope for other than the other recent big name restaurants to open in similar settings.

First of all, the museum is magnificent. It is a must visit. An experience that will stay with you. As for Lox, as good and authentic as it could be. I had the Minsk Matzo Babka and the Original Bagel and Lox. Both tasted so good; and absolutely real. The staff was nice, the chef was there. The view is great and the seats are well-spaced. Highly recommended!

Whitefish salad on a salad

As the name suggests , there is a nice selection of different lox. Sable, cavier, herring, challah, whitefish etc. whitefish Salad scoop on a salad was very good. Not too mayonnaisey Red cavier with blinis and sour cream - good. Fried potatoes were really good. Garlicky. Only problem was the food that was supposed to be hot was warm including the 2 cups of coffee I had Skimpy on the challah bread on the side. Chocolate babka was decent but I've tasted better. This is a self order place. Food is brought to the table. Nice spot facing NY harbor and Statue of Liberty

Great food, service, and view. The Borscht was amazing. Perfect lunch and the museum is a must see.

The quality and taste of the soy sauce was better than average. The salmon and tuna tacos were made exceptionally well, with super fresh raw salmon and raw tuna, and extra crispy taco shells. The nikkei acevichado sauce blends beautifully with the avocado, lime, pickled radish, and cilantro. This entire combination complemented the raw fish, and brought it to the next level. I had a glass of the drappier carte d'or from the sparkling wine list and it paired perfectly. The drink was light, very sparkly, and refreshing. It balanced the rich avocado and the fatty fish very well. The restaurant has a bar area and a main dining area. It has the ambiance of a standard upscale Midtown restaurant.

We started with mushroom and truffle empanadas and then had the sushi rolls - everything was fresh and delicious. One downside was the condition of the ladies room - to put it nicely it was disgusting. My sister changed her mind about using it after going inside. Other than that I would recommend giving them a try.

Cocktails are a little heavy on the sweetness, but the food is delicious and dessert is insane. Never had key lime pie like that in my life. Pro tip - would go duck breast over duck confit, although both were fantastic. The rack of lamb was also divine. Only criticism is that service could use some improvement, a few of our appetizers were incorrect & we felt rushed to leave at the end. But otherwise no notes, would highly recommend that anyone check this place out.

Passed hors d'oeuvres included beef carpaccio, ahi tuna tostadas, short rib gnocchi, and patatas bravas. For dinner, we were given a choice of three appetizers: roasted caufliower, lamb riblets, or brussel sprouts with lamb bacon; a choice of four entrees: duck confit risotto, ora king salmon with coconut curry, tournedos au poivre, or cote do boeuf. The three dessert options were apple streudel, affogato "al caffe", and key lime pie. I ordered brussel sprouts, duck, and key lime pie, and Eric R. got lamb riblets, ora king salmon, and apple streudel. I think he regretted offering me a lamb riblet because it was ridiculously tender and melted in my mouth. What is truly amazing is this is a meat restaurant, so the ice cream, risotto, gnocchi, and other dishes that we think of as dairy-based were non-dairy, and still completely amazing! It was definitely the fanciest kosher restaurant I have even been to in my life. The restaurant was so packed that we could not hear most of the speeches, which were given into a microphone attached to a small speaker near the bride's and groom's family's table. I do not fault the restaurant for its popularity though! The menu is really fun so I think it would be cool to return here for a special occasion. It is also located in midtown Manhattan which is very convenient for transportation. B'teavon!
