The parking lot confuses out-of-towners. Folks put puppies in the back of trucks here. So sad. In the evenings the migratory birds swarm all of the trees and they are so loud. It's crazy. Let's move into the actual store finally... The place has been an absolute mess and then some. Dirty. Unorganized. Open packages. The carts suck. The shelves are empty or damn near it. The attitudes from the employees equal those of the other patrons. Why is it like this? The only reason I give it 3 stars is because of the low prices. Ample parking during the mid-mornings. And at self-check I can still purchase whiskey, tequila, and beer with the assistance of an employee. It doesn't take more than a minute usually. I have found that it's faster and more efficient to do self-checkout as much as I detest it. That sums up this love-hate relationship.

They actually help you when you can't find something. The prices. They're reasonable and you don't need a rewards card to save here. The meat and produce selections. They're fresh and of quality. The store itself. It's clean, well-organized, and has good signage inside. The only thing I ever disliked about Thriftway is the location--not necessarily within the city, but the way it is tucked off in a corner behind Bealls and Walgreens. Each December, an annual canned food drive (Stuff-a-Truck) happens in front of this store. So they definitely support their community and less fortunate citizens. I may be the only one who remembers this, but Thriftway used to be on Dal Paso St. That Thriftway burned to the ground back in '07. I never learned what the cause was or how it happened, but... The cashier quickly greeted us and told us a quick rundown about what they had, and where to order. There was so much food to pick from and it was hard to pick just one meal. I ended up ordering half a chicken with mashed potatoes and a potato salad. My husband ended up ordering three crunchy brisket tacos. We sat down and people kept trickling in. Our food didn't take too long and a different employee dropped it off. She was also very friendly and attentive. My chicken was delicious and HUGE. I couldn't finish it, so I had to take it on home. The sides are small, but they also accompanied my dish with a bread roll, some barbecue sauce, and a jalapeño with onions. My husband loved his brisket tacos and loved them even more after he poured some bbq sauce on top. They are also a market so they sell a lot of goods, fresh meat, and dairy. The inside is small but it all flows great. The fresh meat all looked of great quality and prices are reasonable! Can't wait to be back to try something else!

This one is that small but somehow managed to cram a menagerie of grocery aisles in the front. It's packed and small, but it works. Items are limited, tho I'm used to a large city Wally, where the options are more immense and well stocked. For example, the chip aisle, or section not he aisle, was roughly 10 feet wide, larger stores have an entire aisle of chips. Despite the limited food, we stopped to check the Lego section, this was better, it was short on the shelves, but they had lego items that we have not seen in any other stores. It was clean, tight aisles, well kept. It's also your only option for the mega chain stores.

Just when you think you've visited the worst Walmart in your life in another town.... whaam! , here…read moreyou arrive at the Walmart in Pecos Texas. Of course pretty much everything in Pecos Texas is overcrowded, run-down and expensive for what they really are. Except for Walmart! You get your standard Walmart prices but you do not have an automotive department, no 24 hours and even longer lines, but you do get to dodge Isles full of inventory that need to be broken down and items put on the shelves. Also, don't let me get started on the 20 plus people deep line because like overcrowded Pecos Texas everybody is trying to pack 10 pounds of crap in a 5lb bag, Walmart is no exception. This is one place that definitely needed to be a super Walmart. I'm going to hate to give this advice to you but the Family Dollar and general dollar down the road put this Walmart to shame. Now that you might have taken this advice, please do me a favor and do not go into these dollar stores until I am done finished and left this piece of a something town. I don't want my favorite places to get overcrowded. Oh, and before I go one more important thing, the parking lot! You think you're from Houston and driving /parking cannot get any worse than those Asians in Bellaire? Yes those people, but these people put the people that Park in Walmart to shame, actually make them look like professionals or something because if you try to come in here with a nice vehicle you can pretty much be assured you will have 6 Vehicles parked around a 4 space to park a lot around you in Every Which Way but Loose. Welcome to Pecos Texas, your misery has only begun.
