To date, I have seen Phantom of the Opera, Waitress, and Hairspray. I actually also missed out on an opportunity to see the hilarious Jo Koy who did his stint here as well but heard nothing but good things! I'm thrilled that El Paso can have these Off Broadway shows so that everyone can experience the beauty of theater art and see how much talent a group of people can put a show together and wow a crowd of all ages. A lot of people don't seem to realize just how crowded a theater can get and I've literally seen people leave because of that reason. It's unfortunate because it often happens when the show has already started and people on stage very much see every movement of the audience. Although it puts a slight hamper on the theater experience for myself, the shows are beyond magical and captivating to forget all about that inconvenience thankfully. I also have never bought season tickets for anything in my life but in order to get the optimal seats I wanted AND make sure it can be for Hamilton (only the best musical to date), I had to get season tickets. It is a popular concert series, but I was surprised to find out it's been going on for 31 years, it's a true El Paso tradition! The shows start Sundays at 7pm at the Chamizal Memorial Park and they bring performers from different genres, so there's a bit of something for everyone. I stopped by for a mariachi concert that a friend invited me to, and I had a fun time, I've always liked mariachi and the band, Son de Mexico, was quite good and they were singing all the classics. It's really less about the performer than it is about enjoying a day at the park with your friends or family, the music just complements the chatting, eating, and hanging out. I recommend getting there at least half an hour before the concert to find good parking and a good spot to sit, though the park is big enough to where it doesn't feel uncomfortably crowded. Also, don't forget to bring a lawn chair, like I did. If you don't bring your own picnic there are food and drink trucks set up, and there's quite a few of them, there's even a beer cart. Good times.
