I was looking for something unusual to do while in town and I saw this on Yelp! After a fantastic meal next door at Barrio, I strolled over. It was quiet but the music and the atmosphere were exactly what I needed. The cocktails are creative. The Buena Vista is my favorite. Tequila, grapefruit bitters and soda was refreshing on a warm day and the Freshberry Margarita with blackberries and raspberry hit the spot. I. Love. This. Place. L.O.V.E. Where to begin? You have to use the phone booth for entrance. When I went, reservations were required. You ring yourself in and a hostess lets you through the door. As soon as you walk into this establishment you are transported out of El Paso and into the 1920s. The lighting, the furniture, the employee's attire - literally everything is transformative. I can't help, but smile just reliving the memory of being here. When you make your reservation, ask for a booth table. We didn't know about the booths and were sat at a small table in the center of the lounge. At first, I thought I would be uncomfortable, but the lighting is so well installed that even sitting in the center row it still feels very intimate and private. Our barista was knowledgable, flexible, and super crafty. She catered to our palates and even though we ordered drinks from the menu, she made alterations to make them more personalized to our liking. I really love this place. The fun part is also where this place is located. Excellent location to start the night and continue bar hopping. If you're in the mood for a night of time travel, then I'd suggest hitting up The Berkley & 1922 in the same night. It's about 7 minutes walking from bar to bar. Excellent spot for a date night. Very disappointed in this place! We will never go back there again!!! They advertise happy hour from 5 to 7 P.M. (See picture), making it appear like they have "happy hour" every day... They don't! Very deceiving, don't let them fool you! They're "false advertising." And if you make a reservation, they charge your credit card $10 to make the reservation... What is that all about? ‍ They're definitely not all that... Their menu sucks and their drinks aren't that impressive, just insanely overpriced. I visited not to long ago as a date. I truly loved the live music although it sucks you cant see the artist since they sit you in a secluded area. The music is not heard equally throughout the place unfortunately. Also our server Jordan was acting as if i was not there, i can count the amount of times she looked at me. I had to nearly get up every-time i wanted her attention before she could runaway from the table from asking my date what they wanted. She was rude at times. Not sure if she was having a bad day. I will say the ambiance is what you are paying for when it comes to the 1922 location. It is intimate and beautifully decorated. The price range of the cocktails are on the higher end but if made with the proper punch then it should even out. We ordered The Goonies Punch Bowl for 2 at $20. The cocktail was delicious and very strong. I recommend 100% When asked if they had any appetizers the only thing available was a charcuterie board that was ordered next door. The wait for the board was over 20 minutes and when brought to the table the value did not match the quality. Do not waste your $20 on this! I attended an event dressed up as well and had the pleasure of seeing others dressed up which brought the place to life. My review is not solid, I will return on an active weekend to see if their services will be better. This will be in reference to drink, music, and appetizers. I do feel that locations downtown in El Paso need to remember that they are supposed to be higher quality all around than the rest especially if we pay for public parking! read more

We visited 1922 for the first time on a Saturday right at opening (5pm). I love the speakeasy/prohibition vibe and was super excited to try this place. You enter by pressing a button in an old telephone booth and when you enter, it's dimly lit with a 1920s vibe. The instructions to get into the bar are clearly laid out on the website, which is helpful! They do recommend reservations, but we didn't need one since we got there at opening. As far as ambiance, the music was a mix of older music with a more modern vibe. Think 20s, 30s, and 40s music but remixed. Not so loud that my boyfriend and I couldn't hear each other. The bartender who served us was really friendly and professional. I liked that he brought a bar cart to the table and made our drinks in front of us with fresh ingredients. I tried the Coco Chanel and the Lupe Vélez, which were both citrusy and tangy. Delicious! We had 4 drinks and with tip our total was about $60, which is about what I would expect for nice cocktails like this. They had a pianist playing around the time we left and had a food menu with things like charcuterie, crab cakes, cubano sliders, and even a Chicago dog. We'll definitely be back to try more drinks and to sample the food menu! Recommend for date night or night out with friends. As far as seating, it didn't seem like it would seat a large group, but maybe 6ish comfortably in a bigger booth. read more

Came out to this place on a double date, I was pretty excited because I love Speakeasies. I was a little confused coming in because the door was locked and I wasn't sure if the phone booth had a secret door or I had to call someone. Would of appreciated knowing that when I made my reservation because it was cold. But anyways not a big deal. The ambience was a bit too bright and noisy for a speakeasy. I didn't mind the noise as much as the lighting. Lighting is everything in a restaurant, let alone a bar. The service was okay as was the decor and aesthetic. I guess I'm a little biased because I have been to a lot of speakeasies out of town, so I guess my expectations are kind of high. I would of like to hear some cool music that went with the era, instead of today's hits lol, but I guess. Overall it was a cool little place, the drinks were good, nothing that really stood out to me or that I found to be unique. It was cool that they made the drinks table side, I did appreciate that. And I loved that they gave me the receipt in a bar book. I would come back for sure, maybe once they work out the kinks and stuff.... I REALLY wanted to love this place. Unfortunately we had a terrible experience. I even contemplated making a reservation online before we went but did not feel comfortable paying for a reservation (So strange..) but it was a Thursday so we figured we'd take a chance. When we walked in it wasn't very busy at all. There was one large party and maybe another 2 top. It took 30 minutes to even be acknowledged and another 30 before we ever got our drinks! Then when we asked for our check the book that they put the check in was literally tossed on to our table. I'm not even exaggerating. It was practically thrown at us. What makes matters even worse is that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. So all in all a negative zero experience. I have no reason to ever want to patronize this place again. So im basing this off of my direct experience plus observance from friends. Customer service was wonderful and plentiful. The folks for table service or bar service are top notch! The drinks were also amazing and very elegent in their Roaring 20s vibes as well perhaps. There were plenty of nice booth tables, open tables, and spots at the bar that allowed enough space still for people in a party group to come together in. There was a cheese and salami platter which i didnt really care for. There was what seemed to appear and taste like toasted, plain white loaf bread. I feel it didnt compliment the salami and cheese. The way the parm was prepped was also to flaky to the point of crumbling. It wss difficult to add to your other fixings, let alone eat by itself. This place gets 4 stars for the drinking EXPERIENCE but fewer stars for the quality of cocktail. It's a luxurious drinking atmosphere and cocktails are made right in front of you at your table. But unfortunately, after two visits and trying multiple drinks, I must say that the cocktails themselves are not very tasty and are not as strong as I had hoped. The Coco Chanel and Harry Houdini were two drinks with interesting ingredients that I would taste great, but somehow the components didn't come together well. The Chicago typewriter is great for show, but the drink itself is mediocre. Worst of all is that they put "fresh egg white" on the menu description for some drinks yet the the mixologist pulled out a carton of pure egg whites in front of me to make my whiskey sour. Nice seating, well-dressed bartenders. There could maybe be a little more period-appropriate wall accents. The bartenders bring a wheeled cart to your table so they can make your drinks in front of you...but only if you order from the list of "Signature Cocktails!" For our second round, we ordered a couple of classic cocktails and were a little disappointed that we didn't get to see them made :( The drinks are interesting and well made, if not the *most* clever I've ever seen. Try the Al Capone - it's delicious. Maybe our one substantive gripe was the jazz musician playing during our visit. Don't get me wrong - he was quite good. But his selections were all very down-tempo, too-chill songs. In a lounge that is already dimly lit, a little more energetic music would go a long way! This place is worth going just for the experience. A "hidden" speakeasy with a 1920's feel, it doesn't get much cooler than that. It is a fairly small place, but they do take reservations. The drinks are good, a bit strong and pricey, but I don't think it's unreasonable since it feels like an upscale place. I loved that they made the drinks right in front of us, that was a really cool experience. I also love that they are always doing cool events here as well. I will say this place is probably better suited for more experienced drinkers, while our bartender was nice, it felt like there was an expectation for us to know more than we did. Reopening night - not crowded (obvi) - experienced 2 different servers Ambiance was lovely & with live music and people dressed in theme- this place has lots of potential. Had been looking forward to visiting 1922! Only 2 stars because: -1 of the servers delivered a FRENCH 75 & named it as such. I responded, "I ordered a Bees Knees". His response: "Yes, I don't know why I said that" Me: "Good, as long as it's not because I don't want a French 75". He rapidly walks away. I take a sip. Its a French 75. I roll my eyes & advise the actual server. She bring my Bees Knees. It has a hair on the rim (no joke - this was the 2nd time this night that someone left their DNA on my order. WTH!?) So she apologizes and after some time brings a replacement cocktail. We end up ordering some pretzels, Fallen Angel, Frank Costello, and the Bees Knees. The cocktails were decent, but we waited for far too long for follow up service and bill closeout. read more
