We chose the Rug Merchant after hearing great things about them and having a couple of estimates…read moredone by Empire etc. and chose to go with them for the vastly broader selection, quality to value, and personal attention to detail they take in taking on jobs. The owners, Hillary and (Steve?) are great to work with. Where most people tend to focus on price as the sole factor for many of their home improvement projects, the olde adage of you get what you pay for often holds true as well. We found a great non-standard carpet that fit our style and needs for a basement finishing job and came out about the same of where we would have going national chain, but the offerings and quality, as well as customer service experience were far superior. They really were able to convey what the differences were in what you were getting, durability and cost, and found a great carpet that wasn't available from a big discounter. Four years out the carpet, and composite flooring we put down in one area still shows like new despite getting regular to heavy use. By comparison, the standard stuff we have through the rest of the house when we moved in started showing its age within a year or two. Will go with them again when we have the rest of the house done...

I have to admit, this is not the least expensive place you are going to look for carpet, but it's worth every penny. The first installation was a disaster- installing new vinyl flooring right over a bulging threshold because they were too lazy to remove it, major areas missed or flooring just laying on top and not glued down. It took months for the team to come back to fix these problems because we were told the product was on back order- only to find out from the distributor that they had product the entire time. Now there are major problems with the second installation...apparently a moisture issue that no one bothered to warn us about or mitigate before we paid thousand of dollars. Now we are left with a non-functional floor, out thousands of dollars and Glen has completely ghosted us. He told us originally that the "job is not done until you are satisfied", but he bolted when we said it needs to be fixed or we need to get a partial refund. Total scam. Save yourself!
