And we were looking at an hour to get the Jeep. The polite salesman did offer to take us along for the ride. But I'm buying a car. I set an appointment. I expected the car on site. Complete waste of our morning and you blew a sure thing sale. My old plates are in my hand. They had ample time to get the car. Someone dropped the ball and lost a customer.

My car is 22 yrs old and still running great. I I was having some issues shifting into 3rd gear and…read moremy local mechanic referred me to Clapham's Transmission. I thought I needed a new clutch and was bracing for the bill. Jim investigated the problem thoroughly and was in touch with me throughout the process. He finally was able to diagnose the problem, which was not the clutch but rather a solid piece of the clutch supporting framework that fatigued over the years just enough to get a little in the way of my shifting into 3rd gear. Jim explained the problem clearly and apologized that the way the car was manufactured 22 yrs ago, there's really no fix. We brainstormed a few ideas and determined that they were either not feasible or would not solve the issue. Jim could have done expensive work on the car and I would have been none the wiser. But he didn't because he knew it would not fix the issue. He spent hours figuring out the source of the problem. I was prepared to provide my credit card to pay for his time, but he generously declined the payment. I appreciate the time he spent on the car and even more so his honesty in not recommending or doing work that wasn't needed. Should I have transmission issues in the future, Clapham's will be my first call.
