Undisclosed $2,000+ fee, verbal hostility, and a hang-up on the day my father died…read more
Our father was admitted to Luxxylive on September 23rd after being hospitalized with Covid. Because of his illness, he couldn't move in earlier, and we had no signed contract when he arrived. Upon arrival, the administrator, Nash, told us we had to pay $333 a day for the seven days they held the room--a surprise fee totaling over $2,000.
This fee was never in our draft contract and was never mentioned in previous conversations. They refused to accept our father until we paid. Because he urgently needed placement directly from the hospital, we were forced to negotiate under duress, ultimately paying $1,000 under protest. We believe charging this without a signed contract violates state law. Savvas, one of the owners, arrived later that night, and we finally signed the contract.
Our father passed away just three days later, on the morning of September 26th. That very same day, Savvas called me an a**hole, stated that other agencies warned him not to take our father because "he's going to die," and insulted my brother and sister. When I tried to calmly talk through the situation, he hung up on me and told me never to call him again.
We had prepaid from September 23rd through the 30th. Our contract explicitly states that unused paid time is refunded if a resident passes away. Savvas initially flatly refused to honor this. While a refund was eventually sent afterward, no amount of money changes how cruelly our family was treated on the worst day of our lives.
I strongly advise against using this facility if you expect basic compassion, ethical business practices, and transparency.
The owner of Veronica harassed me on direct messages or email from Yelp, but yet Yelp has done nothing to punish her. It says right in the guidelines in Yelp, that business owners cannot retaliate against people that give reviews on their businesses, but apparently Yelp doesn't care. Perhaps Orange County Adult And Senior Care Regional Office,
Community Care Licensing Division,
California Department of Social Services will!
