I fully trust in the professionals. However, we recently transferred our father to this facility due to the situation and facility he was in prior to entering Kindred. From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted with professionalism. The nurses and doctors on staff were always attentive to his needs and did an amazing job at communicating with us. Not too shortly after, his health took a turn for the worse so he was transferred to the ICU unit. There, he received top notch care. The nursing staff was more than accommodating, attentive, communicative and professional. Most of all, calm and empathetic to the situation. He didn't end up making it out but I will say that the treatment and care that my father received was something I've never seen before. The doctor made sure to call me everyday to talk about treatment plans, status, etc. The nurses never hesitated to answer questions and give us updates. The facility itself is well run and clean. I honestly felt an open door policy with the admin staff as well. I would recommend this place in a heart beat. I couldn't have asked for anything better for my dad throughout the last few weeks of his life.

After spending almost three weeks in the Acute Section of Kindred Brea, on October 2, 2024, it was…read moredetermined by my doctor that I could be safely moved to the Sub-Acute Section. The care that I received there was totally different than the care I received in the Acute Section. I feel that CNA Brenda helped me more than I can even put into words. She was A+ excellent! There were less patients in this Section compared to the Acute Section. In addition, those of us there no longer needed the intense medical interventions that we previously needed. For me, that meant that I was no longer on a drip IV antibiotic, but rather on just swallowing one antibiotic capsule daily. This represented a move in the right direction or to say it better, one last step before being given the go-ahead to go home! Once again Victoria, the Patient Advocate was by my side in every manner. When I had a complaint, she listened. When I had something good to say, she listened. She was fabulous!! While this section had a smaller gym than the Acute Section, I feel as though more positive goals and accomplishments for me were met in this gym. I was introduced to Amir and two of his assistants, Daniela and Genevieve, in this gym. If there can be a grade over and above A+, that's what I give to Amir. He didn't care if I said I was in too much pain to do anything. He made me do the therapy anyway, which in the end, made me feel so much better. He took me from a five to at least an eight in approximately a week and a half. Amir, you are the best!!! However, as nice as this all sounded, one thing remained the same. The food service was almost never correct. I continued to receive items I didn't order. The last few days I was there, the Food Service Manager personally delivered to me my meals, making sure I was getting what I would eat. There was no variety. For the most part, I was given either a cheese quesadilla or a little cheese pizza, along with two cups of watermelon. While I liked that, it did get a little boring having the same thing day in and day out. Aside from the food service, everything and everyone in this Section helped me to recover to the point that, on October 12th, I was given the green light to go home. I'm giving this Section 5 stars!

I was in traction for 30 days and it didn't work. Had surgery. Recovered well and quickly. A few children passed during that time and terminal was my floor. I felt powerless watching the parents dealing with their reality and those that I would never be seen again. Seeing children, my age, was so scary. I thought I wasn't going to survive. Again, I felt so powerless not being able to help those who were going through so much more than myself. I went back again, I believe in 74, to have a second surgery and I felt no fear. My first surgery went so well! After the anesthesia wore off I became very ill. Couldn't stop throwing up. The doctor helping me said I was a lucky little girl. They had some difficulty removing the pins from my hip and had to drill them out. Said they were prepping me for a transfusion which I ended up not needing. I recovered quickly from that one too. I guess what I am saying is the staff did well with me. Strange because they probably aren't here any longer and my experience with CHOC was great. You call and they just tell you the nonsensical mundane things about not enough staff. It is clear the staff has no sense of urgency. Kids sitting in the lobby with blood PICC for additional hours waiting for lab results. Do NOT go to this pathetic place with your kids. Update: 10 hours later & still haven't administered the UTI antibiotics. It gets better; heart rate is elevated so they were going to admit her overnight. Like hell you are, taking her to HOAG. They aren't treating her at CHOC so why admit her with the same incompetent staff?

When they say they are going to come they show up no issues. They show great concern, are available for questions by text and have aided in the recovery of my husband not getting an infection and in care of my mother with multiple health issues and falls. My mother is 91 and also has bath aide with Yolanda, this has been a huge help to me to have this assistance twice a week and has take some weight off my shoulders. She is so very kind and patient with my mother which is beyond wonderful. We have had Stan for PT for both my husband after surgery and my mom after falls and he is OUTSTANDING, compassionate and keeps my mom laughing which helps her spirit. If we need PT we always request Stan! My reason for only giving 3 instead of 5 is NOT the Nurses, Aides or PT it is SUPPLIES - they take months and I have to purchase supplies out of my own pocket then the supplies show up 2-3 months after ordered and WRONG things come, not even what was ordered. For example my husband had foot surgery and supplies were ordered by Jill, followed up at least 5 times and finally THREE MONTHS later they show up and there are multiple things never ordered in the box. In the meantime to avoid an infection I had to purchase supplies. Our recent order for a fall for my mom Jill placed an order on 07/10 and today is 07/22 - NOTHING - multiple follow ups by Jill and Maryann and still nothing. I am not sure why it takes so long for the supplies that are urgently needed for treatment to stop infections. If it is the company Bryam then SWITCH - but this has been an issue for over a year and is very concerning. I have spent hundreds of dollars purchasing supplies that either show up months later or never show up at all. My insurance is being billed for these supplies, but they show up LATE, if treatment was held off waiting on these supplies my husband could have lost his foot from infection. Bryam has a 1.1 rating which should tell you all you need to know about this company.

His diligent tracking of the additional days required for her stay ensured she could safely transfer from her bed to a wheelchair with the assistance of only one CNA. When our mother arrived a month ago, she was unable to stand or walk, and her progress has been remarkable. We were also very impressed by the medical care meeting provided for our family. It was well-organized, with up-to-date lab work and clear documentation that allowed us to easily understand her medical progress. Additionally, social workers Elvie and Ana, along with Bianca, Alejandra, and Renee from administration, were outstanding resources. They kept our family consistently informed and made the discharge process seamless. The facility was consistently clean and had a calm, welcoming atmosphere. It stayed organized without ever feeling chaotic, and the staff were professional, approachable, and responsive. That consistency carried across the entire facility--from the nurses, CNAs, and medical providers to social services, activities, dietary, housekeeping, and front-office staff. We received timely reminders and updates, which helped me stay on top of his care and next steps. As his primary caregiver, knowing I could reach someone when I had a question made my life easier and gave me much-needed peace of mind. Once they got me there they put me in a diaper! After putting up with this for several days I threatened to require transfer to another care center. Then they promised to get a commode for me for my bedside. They kept promising and promising, and never did it for the 6+ weeks I was there! In addition, the first space I was assigned had a TV that would only turn off if you unplugged it. Also, their TV channels did not include KTLA, a major local channel. Hygiene was also an issue. The curtain between me and my neighbor had smear of snot or other bodily fluids on it. It took more than a week for them to change it. Later on I had a chest infection and I got some fluid on the new curtain. When I told the cleaning crew, all they did was rehang the same curtain with the side toward my neighbor (who was there for cancer treatment)! There was also a security issue. One male resident, who apparently had some form of dementia, kept wandering the halls and entering my space, claiming he was visiting a friend (no males were in my unit, and the other resident also did not want him in our unit). I told the staff and they cautioned him ("you don't want to go back to the hospital (mental?), do you?"), but he continued to poke his head into my unit. I observed them lying to residents. They took away my neighbor's wheelchair because they didn't want her wandering unaccompanied in the halls, but told her they didn't know what happened to it. They promised physical therapy four times a week but I never received more than 10 to 15 minutes two or three times a week, and when I asked for more they said staff were unavailable.

We left messages for the Dr repeatedly about the medication but she hardly ever called us back. We kept telling them she shouldn't be taking so much medication because she was literally drugged all the time. They never listened or decreased medication. After she was transferred out of there to B&C the new nurse discovered my Mom had infected wound on her leg no one ever mentioned! The CNA's were very nice & helpful, also the Social Worker.

A close family member was referred to this skilled nursing facility for rehab following a fall…read more This review is specific to the third floor for Kaiser patients. The facility is extremely busy, and nurses are frequently checking in on patients. Rooms are shared (two patients per room) and include a private bathroom, a TV for each bed, and a dresser. The facility itself is clean, though the nursing staff often seemed short-handed. During especially busy times, it was not unusual to wait 5-15 minutes for a response after pressing the call button. Physical therapy was provided once or twice per day in short sessions. Some drawbacks included physicians making care decisions without always coming to check in directly with the patient, as well as occasional miscommunication regarding medications. While some staff members appeared more short-tempered than others, the majority were friendly, attentive, and patient. We also experienced some issues with laundry, clothing went missing, and at times other patients' clothes were mistakenly given to our family member. Overall, we are grateful for the care received, but there is clear room for improvement, particularly with staff-to-patient ratios to help reduce call-button wait times and improve overall communication.
