I had one of the worst healthcare experiences with CHOC Fit Club. I had a telehealth appointment scheduled through Zoom, and I waited in the virtual waiting room for 40 minutes, no one from the provider's side ever joined the call. When I called to find out what happened, I was placed on hold for a longer time, then transferred between multiple departments. Despite all that, no one was able to resolve the issue or even explain what went wrong with the appointment. This kind of disorganization is unacceptable, especially for a healthcare provider. Patients' time matters, and missed telehealth appointments with no follow-up or accountability are a serious problem. I'd strongly encourage CHOC Fit Club to review their scheduling and communication processes so other patients don't have to go through this. read more

I was well informed here, the doctors and nurses here were great! My daughter needed emergency surgery and they did everything they could to keep me updated real time. Also asked if I had any questions constantly, and was answered with great suggestions and recommendations for the sake of my daughter. At the time, me and my husband needed to make a big decision and they were patient with us, and answered every question we fired at them and they reciprocated with the best answers to give us. I had also let them know about the previous hospital, Emanate health in West Covina, how one of the nurses asked my daughter if they found her situation "funny" and how my 5 year old daughter and I found that comment from a health worker odd and the surgeon that I asked gave me the reassurance that that question was NOT okay, there was a team around us and every single one gave us reassurance that that behavior was unacceptable. Aside from that, post surgery for my daughter, nurses were constantly checking up on her, and they were the SAME ones rather than different people coming in and out of the room. Each nurse, or worker introduced who they were, why they were there and would check on my daughter. The workers here were very understanding, kind, and despite the situation I constantly thanked each nurse and person for giving her good care. Here, it seems like they took care of my daughter how they would take care of their own family Also helped me solve my issues with insurance, if you know how hectic that could be that right there deserves a 6th star lol read more

We recently received treatment at CHOC I can't thank the staff enough they were all attentive to my child's needs and procedures. The surgeon did an amazing job and followed up with my child day after day to make sure he was fine, the nurses were always very helpful and checking in in us constantly, and the janitorial team did a great job ensuring everything was always clean and disinfected. We were there a week and I must say they all did an outstanding job. Thank you CHOC staff may God always bless each and every one of you. read more

I never met the psychiatrist so I will have to guess whether the issue is anxiety or depression based off the prescription. I recommend the mental health unit for a traumatized child rather than an adolescent. The therapist was patient, but even though the kid realized that he answered a leading question about suicidal ideation, now it is part of his diagnosis history. They dispense melatonin to compensate for the echoing [poor acoustics] and screaming. With 18 beds, this is the smallest local facility so it took almost two overnights at the emergency room before he was admitted. read more

Another day, another choc specialist appointment. Today we were seen by the genetics department who are from a different clinic but see kids at choc. We saw Dr Zadeh who was wonderful, excellent bedside manner and overall very pleasant and easy to talk to. Highly recommend the genetics department for any special needs and testing your kid may need. read more

The Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) - now Rady Children's Health - beats out Loma Linda University Children's Hospital (LLUCH) IMO. I've been to both hospitals as a visitor but I was most impressed with my recent visit to CHOC. They have a large campus and many buildings. Checking in as a visitor was easy: Simply provide your driver's license and they will print out a badge for you to wear. The hospital was clean and brightly lit. Lots of fun colors and they even have themed days for the patients (e.g., Star Wars Day, Stitch Day, etc.). The room amenities were plenty. But what always stands out with children's hospitals are the caring and amazing staff. They go above and beyond to make sure the patient is comfortable. It's easy to put trust into CHOC's care because I've seen how they have treated their patients. Despite the circumstances, this is a great place to take children to when needing urgent or emergency care. read more

Dr. Mary Jane Prioutek's conduct during our visit was deeply disappointing and fell far short of the level of professionalism we expected. After waiting several hours to be seen, we were met with a condescending and dismissive tone that left us feeling disrespected and uncomfortable. The interaction was so inappropriate that it was embarrassing not only for us as patients but also for the staff members who witnessed it. One particularly troubling moment occurred when Dr. Mary Jane Prioutek asked why we had brought our child to the emergency department. After we explained our concerns, she responded, "Okay, and you thought that's why you should come to the ER?" The comment came across as dismissive, condescending, and judgmental rather than informative or compassionate. As an Emergency Department RN myself, I understand the importance of appropriate emergency department utilization and do not take the decision to seek emergency care lightly. I would never bring my child to the ER unless I genuinely believed the situation warranted urgent medical evaluation. Rather than providing reassurance, education, or a professional assessment of our concerns, Dr. Prioutek's response made us feel belittled for seeking care for our child. Healthcare professionals have an obligation to treat patients and families with respect, empathy, and professionalism, especially when they are concerned about a potentially serious medical issue. Regardless of whether a provider ultimately determines that an emergency condition exists, patients should never be made to feel foolish or judged for seeking medical attention. Unfortunately, Dr. Prioutek's communication failed to reflect the standards of compassion and respect that are fundamental to the medical profession. This experience was especially disappointing given the positive experiences we have had with this institution in the past. Fantastic hospital for children. My son is on the spectrum and they are so accommodating and understanding. My son had ITP so we had to come once a month to the lab to get a blood test, which is not fun for kids. The lab was very kind and they were patient and my son tolerated it much better than he would at an urgent care, or other lab. When my son needed treatment over two nights, the staff was so kind and informative. They had toys and informed all their staff on diff shifts that my son was partly verbal so to have some patience and understanding and over everything...kindness. It's in a busy/crowded area of town so parking is available but the parking lot is a mess and kind of stressful when you're in the mix of going to an ER or important appointment. read more

My son literally is having a hard time breathing and I'm over here trying to calm him down from crying while mom is pumping and the audacity from the nurse to tell us to put my son down while he's crying with a heart rate of 232!!!!! Just to take my 3 year old daughter who was not bothering anyone outside the room!! No compassion at all. I asked the nurse I'll take her out when he calms down and got a "actually it's passed 8 and she needs to be taken out" I get visitor policy but read or HEAR the damn room. I had a very disappointing experience at Children's Hospital of Orange County. I took my daughter to the ER for a stomach virus and we arrived around 10:00 PM. We were not discharged until almost 1:30 AM the next morning. Most of that time was spent waiting just to be seen while my daughter continued vomiting in the waiting room. At one point, I had to repeatedly push staff for help because she was clearly getting worse. Instead of taking her into a proper room, they brought us behind a small movable privacy wall in a corner just to give her medication, then sent us right back to the waiting area. When we finally saw the doctor, the interaction lasted maybe five minutes. The female doctor we saw came across as very judgmental about my parenting and health choices for my daughter rather than showing compassion or concern. After that, we were moved to a hallway area for "monitoring" alongside other sick patients. We sat there for another 30 minutes before I finally requested discharge myself. In the end, the only treatment my daughter received was 2 mg of medication. We were never admitted and never even placed in an actual room, yet I still had to sign paperwork saying the visit could cost $1,200 if insurance didn't cover it. Thankfully my insurance paid, because that price is outrageous for the level of care we received. To make things worse, parking was another $10. charging families for parking feels incredibly unfair. Overall, the lack of urgency, communication, compassion, and proper accommodations made this an exhausting and frustrating experience. NEVER AGAIN coming here. read more

I had the privilege to fly on the CHOC Helicopter assisting these phenomenal staff and it made me want to be a better PA-C. Beware of predatory billing and price discrepanciesI brought my daughter here for a cough. While the medical staff was kind, the administration and billing practices are a nightmare. We were pressured to stay a second night for "observation" even though she was stable--only to find out they charge over $13,000 per night for a semi-private room. Worse, after auditing my own bill against their online price list, I found multiple overcharges (some double the advertised price). Despite providing proof, their billing department refused to correct the errors. If you value your financial health, go elsewhere. Top bureaucracy! Every step of the way from parking to finding the way in the building to checking in (!!!4 times) takes forever. Nobody is reachable by phone, I have been hanging in wait loops forever. Leading doctor does not listen and only wants to follow protocol. I regularly feel our chronic disease treatment is driven by the hospital making money. Unfortunately rare diasese so no alternatives here in OC. We were patient in 4 university hospitals in the places we lived before CHOC; all significantly better care and much more efficient and transparent processes!!! read more

No one wants to have to go to the ER but having to take your baby makes it especially hard. We called beforehand and asked how long the wait time was. They said they don't give that info over the phone.. We get there, and the front desk girls are having a full on weekend recap with one of the patients in front of us. Mind you this patient was probably like 18 years old. Once our turn they ask what's wrong , give us a bracelet and we wait to be called. We were called probably like 15 mins later for a quick evaluation and said he probably just had mucus and we would have to get into a room to get a proper evaluation to rule out some concerns. They sent us back to the waiting area. Here we waited for 4 HOURS. The DR never evaluated our baby. All he did was restate what was told to us in the beginning. 450$ for that visit. I was under the impression choc was a children's hospital but there are signs saying they can't turn patients away. Kinda pointless to bring your baby/kids here. Ugly old waiting room & you're pretty much sitting on top of each other. . Not at all welcoming or kid friendly other than the tv playing a cartoon movie. No staff was wearing masks. 0/10 visit. Oh and the parking is horrible too! After your whole ordeal try to remember to ask them to validate parking. read more

Had to visit CHOC recently for my son as I thought he fractured a bone-- long story short, he didn't, but our experience there was pretty good. I made small talk with some of the nurses who told me they weren't as busy as they usually are which made me question why it took us 2 hours to be sent to a room and then another 1hr and before the Dr showed up... but regardless, these things take time and I am grateful for the care we did receive. Levy up front was taking vitals and was very nice and personable towards the kids. Carlos was our nurse once we got a room in the back and he was great. We saw Dr. Paul (I think that's how you spell her name) and she was good. Lastly, Jacob took XRays of my son and was talking my son and I through it all so everyone felt comfortable. My child had a surgery & we were met with such LOVE & KINDNESS from the staff from the front desk (Kristen- so helpful & went above to welcome my LO in. Making them feel comfortable & safe). To the best nurse Luis Cervantes which I cannot speak ENOUGH kind words to say about him. He is so friendly, patient, polite he took the time to ease my worries, make my child feel seen, safe, & connect with him. He made it a point to explain everything throughly so we could understand. He has such a great bed side manner. We didn't feel like we were just a number. There was an awesome women who came in and was like the "teacher" she went over the surgery with my little one. I couldn't be more grateful! I don't know what I'd do without her! She explained everything with such grace & a child friendly way. He was nervous but after speaking with her he was at ease. She brought in a mask with different scents to show him how to breathe. & she brought some stickers to decorate. & it was meant to be because the stickers were of his FAVORITE character! & the recovery team they made sure we understood everything to expect following surgery. She was very kind & connected with my child. & last BUT CERTAINLY not least the AMAZING Dr. Arom he is the best ENT we have seen. My children go to him regularly & he has always been so kind, respectful, caring & always explaining everything in such an easy to understand way. & always is flexible to what we feel & want. He doesn't try to make you do something he knows what's wrong or needs to be done & understands your feelings & helps reassures you. read more

ER Visit Review: This is my second time visiting. First time was six years ago and I did visit unexpectedly on NYE but I felt very transactional like I was at the DMV. They expect parents to wait 4 + hours with no update. If they leave or miss their name collecting their belonging (which I saw happen to a single mom alone with a 4 year old), they pass you. Yet they have the survey via text and the forms. It would be nice to know if we expect to be called in the hour. Some parents come alone with nothing and kids get hungry. The staff that we dealt with was fine but it was the facility of CHOC. We really try to avoid visiting this hospital if we can and only if medically necessary. This time I had no hospital stay but they tried to administer a sugar blood test multiple times and then after we acknowledged administering Motrin, tried to give him Tylenol with no fever which we declined. The billing experience last time was very poor and expensive so I am expecting no different this time around. read more

First time being here because we had an issue during my son's c section at St Joseph's. My son was not reacting like a normal delivery baby because he lack oxygen. Dr. John Tran from CHOC recommended that we do a cooling because my son's condition was mild and that the cooling will help. He mention the process would probably by as long as 2 weeks. We were discharged within a week. Dr Tran and nurses Natalie, Briana, Meghan, Julie and other nurses were great with explaining and caring for my son and wife. The team was awesome. The hospital was great as well with the one kids book a day deal and everything. Only downfall was being there for a week. No complaints about that. read more

CHOC has been by far the worst experience we could have asked for in the moment we needed them most (i.e. our three year old son's medical emergency). They treat nothing with urgency, rush you out of the office the first chance they get (after fighting with you and trying to ensure you do not book an appointment with them in the first place), and once you are actually in an emergency situation they do nothing to help or even treat you with an ounce of respect. The department we are working with, gastroenterology, offered us no assistance in any of the help we required, left everything to us in terms of determining next steps and trying to facilitate tests, and the doctor we have is doing everything in his power to avoid us and delay us from booking our son's procedure that he needs to get healthy. If any other hospital were to offer the procedure we need, we would use them in a heartbeat and gladly leave this hospital out of our thoughts forever. read more

Our son had an outpatient surgery at the main hospital. I just want to say that our experience was everything we could have hoped it to be. Despite having a short delay in our son's operation due to unforeseen circumstances with an emergency surgery prior to our arrival, the providers in all areas ensured that we were tended to in the earliest time possible. You could clearly see that they were all working hard to remain safe while providing care in a timely fashion. I can't think of just one area that was exceptional because it all was. We were greeted with respect and kindness from everyone during our stay - from the valet staff, registration/check-in on the first and third floor, pre-op with our nurse and nursing assistant, Bonnie in post-op, and even transport for our departure, everyone, and I mean everyone, was informative, kind, and they made a difficult situation much easier for our family. I am in awe of this hospitals ability to provide such exceptional care for our children. I couldn't think of any hospital I would rather have taking care of our child than CHOC. Our son is recovering well from surgery and I owe it all to your staff. Thank you again read more

The worst, since this hospital was taken over by Rady everything has gone downhill: they are struggling to do the simplest of tasks. From the wait time in their call center, to the lack of communication between registration, billing and scheduling it's appalling anything gets done here/ and this is a place for children. I don't usually write reviews, however, I find myself needing to give thanks to the professionals who treated my son last night. We took my son(2 years old) to the ER on 11/25/25, around 530pm. After being seen at a previous urgent care, they suggested we go to ER for an ultrasound. There was virtually no weight, they took us right back into the triage room within five minutes of being there. We had the most amazing ER tech /EMT named Justin. JUSTIN WAS AMAAAAAZING!!! at previous urgent care, they were not able to get any of my son's vitals because he was screaming and would not let them touch him. Justin was so quick to distract my son, he got him talking, laughing, and within just a few minutes, he was already done with all of the vitals! My son didn't want to leave! We saw Justin throughout our evening stay in the ER, and whenever he walked by he remembered our son by name and would check in with us to make sure we had any questions and if there was anything he could do for us. He was truly truly one of the best healthcare professionals we have ever worked with. I am so thankful for Justin's kindness and professionalism. Aside from that, we also had amazing service from the patient transporter who took us back to ultrasound. The ultrasound tech was also amazing and efficient, she got everything done without my son, even noticing. We only saw a doctor for a few few minutes, however, she answered all of our questions and ordered additional test to make sure everything was clear . Overall, I am very thankful for the care that we received at CHOC emergency room last night! read more

I took my 4 year old son there some months ago. He had an excessive cough spanning weeks that would wake him in the night and caused him to develop a hemorrhoid. I told the doctor my concerns, and that I had been to the doctor previously but my son wasn't getting better. I asked for chest xray (medical advice from a nurse practitioner from a previous visit elsewhere) This doctor, (I forget her name, she was a young black emergency room doctor) told me chest X rays cause cancer in more or less words. This seemed an unnecessary and touching on cruel scare tactic. The amount of chest X-rays one would need to get cancer isn't even a reason to mention it at the first scan. She also dismissed my sons illness as a common cold despite the time length and severity of the cough I had to take my son to another doctor again a week or 2 later for the same problems, another doctor that actually suggested using a chest ray. It was then discovered my son had been ill with pneumonia and at that point had some fluid in his lungs. This could have been discovered weeks ago had this doctor tried. I don't know if money comes out of her personal pocket every time that chest xray is used but it'd be nice if she knew all this so next time she could remember while this mommy isn't a doctor I wish you would have taken my concerns more seriously and actually looked into it past protocol. read more

I had a really disappointing experience with CHOC Otolaryngology in Irvine. My child had an earring stuck in his ear lobe, and the doctor there said it needed to be removed surgically under anesthesia. We scheduled the procedure, but when I tried to get a cost estimate, CHOC couldn't tell me if the doctor was even in-network with our insurance. For almost two weeks, I called multiple times trying to confirm -- they kept saying there was a "system error" and that the doctor should be in network, but no one could verify it. When I asked to switch to another CHOC doctor who definitely was in network, they refused and even told me I was being "impatient." Then, a day before the surgery, they finally admitted the doctor was actually not in network and still didn't give me any out-of-network cost estimate. I had to cancel and take my son to MemorialCare, where another ENT handled it in 15 minutes without anesthesia and was extremely professional. CHOC's lack of transparency and communication caused unnecessary stress and delayed care for my child. For a children's hospital, that's really disappointing. I hope they fix their internal communication and insurance verification process -- families shouldn't have to go through this. read more

I understand that it's a large hospital with good facilities, but why are the ER front desk staff and nurses so rude and condescending? It may be the same routine for them every day, but for patients it's either the first time or an emergency. Being asked the same questions over and over in a dismissive tone, and being ordered to "sit" or "put out your hand" like we're not even human is extremely upsetting. We're not animals. Showing a basic level of professionalism and respect is part of their job. read more

We came to the CHOC ER for my child's broken arm, and she received wonderful care. The staff was wonderful, and yes, we waited about an hour in the waiting area after checking in. But once inside, my child was doted on for the rest of her stay (overnight). Everyone was so kind and compassionate, and the surgery went well. My only regret is that we left in a hurry, and didn't get to properly say thanks to all the nurses who helped us. read more

Honestly, it depends on the day you come unfortunately we've been here a few times the last few months. I am going to name a nurse that works the front, her name is Gideon. This is my second interaction with her today. She's very crude gives you dirty. Looks at You like you just fell from the sky. Or jumped off another planet. Horrible nurse she should be working in the back not in the front face-to-face with patient. The last seeing a patient coming in wants to see is a recruit Nurse with an attitude when their child is sick. There are nurses that truly care for people. And some that are just in it for the money. I spoke with the charge nurse. She's very friendly and approachable. I did recommend that this woman shouldn't be front facing with patients. Maybe they have a spot in the laboratory back room area. I handed her my daughter's urine sample. She wasn't busy. She's just staring at the screen and then I said the nurse said to bring this, she looks at me with this disgusting look grabs a urine box and I put it in there. So sad even my daughter noticed since she's nine. so with her working here, I would give it a one star, but there are some pleasant, friendly, caring nurses here. read more

Sadly, their medical and surgical unit needs management to get involved and make that unit better. Overall, train your nurses how to properly suction a trach patient. But to be told, this unit doesn't have Airvo or drainage gauze and end it at that. Loma Linda University Children's Hospital shared equipment from their PICU, Step Down, and Acute unit. So, I don't want to hear any excuses why the supplies and equipment my daughter needed while in CHOC's care were unmet. To ask for a Child Specialist 3 times and still nothing but before the day my daughter got discharged a CHOC bear... When I requested sensory toys while my daughter was inpatient. read more
