If you have been mistreated while admitted to this hospital (on a weekend) there is no Ombudsman or a Dept to help you.

Do NOT choose here if you want to heal in the expected timeframe. This began on a Friday evening. Was admitted via ER for excruciating pain and eventual gallbladder surgery. It took 20 hours to actually get the surgery with miscommunications on how to prep me which caused another delay; despite me writhing in excruciating pain. Once I was installed upstairs it didn't get much better. The layout has long quiet corridors with pockets that extend from it. These pockets contain 4 rooms, where the room doors face each other. So staff congregate in the pocket or in patient doorways to discuss/work. It's like grand central station. Super loud 24/7, sound echoes in the pocket and walls/doors have no soundproofing. Forget HIPAA privacy, I could tell you every patient's medical history, reason for being there, if they can shower ... at all hours. There was zero visible effort to be quieter or protect patients confidentiality. Zero chance of rest for recovery. Additionally, visitors have 24 hour access and they clearly don't care about other patients' needs or comfort. The care also faltered. Night nurse staff stated I couldn't have my regularly PCP described meds, was told nothing could be done until day doctor arrived and thus zero sleep which deeply impacted ability to recover. In the morning I was chastised for not being up and walking by Hospitalist Liao; yet for the previous 15 hours, I'd been tied to the bed by IVs, vitals' sensor, leg compression equipment and no one on the nursing staff had instructed me to this next recovery step or had facilitated it in any way. Frustrating and it led me to be there longer than should've been needed. Additionally, zero attention or concern in assisting with personal hygiene comfort. Nothing to brush teeth, face or body wipes to attempt cleanliness and I left with severely matted hair. Gross on top of my miserable experience. Sought administrative advocacy and was told there is no Ombudsman assigned to hospital. Wow?! Googled for their Complaint department but it's only available reg business hours. Absurd there is zero avenue for a distressed patient if not during M-F business hours; in a hospital, in an affluent community. What went right? There was enough manpower that your call button is answered in a timely manner. The food service functioned. Nurses Vilma and Yasmine thankfully are exceptionally experienced, compassionate and are the only reason I was able to improve enough to exit hospital; though after the typical timeframe for this surgery. In summary, if you have the ability to choose your hospital - Go Elsewhere! If you must be here, ensure you have an able bodied advocate present, as much as possible, to ensure your healthcare needs are addressed! To Hoag Business Owner: I did call the number on your generic response. No surprise that there has been zero communication.

I was scheduled to have a procedure at Hoag Hospital last month. It was a simple procedure with my doctor, who acted as the surgeon. Parking at the structure was fairly simple as it was free if you went to the self-parking area. They also offered complimentary valet too, if you needed it. I checked in at the appropriate time and a nurse came to get me from the lobby. I was given the standard hospital gown and socks to change into. There was a plastic patient bag for my clothing and valuables. My procedure had me going under general anesthesia so I met with the anesthesiologist and my surgeon prior to my surgery. I was asked a few questions before the nurse put the IV in my arm and the next thing I knew, I was being wheeled into the OR. The last thing I remembered was transferring to the operating table and the anesthesiologist letting me know that he started my IV drip. Then someone was calling my name and I woke up. The nurse explained my procedure went according to plan and that I had to get changed in order to be discharged. They had called my husband to get the car. While I was waiting in the lobby before surgery, I had noticed a lot of the staff walking by, were excited to see the cafeteria. I was a little confused because, didn't they work there? It turns out the cafeteria had just reopened on the day I was there, after being under construction for YEARS. The nurse and I had a little chuckle about it and when she brought my husband up to my little sick bay area, I told him about it. He thought we should check it out after my procedure. He said he saw an omelette station and a stocked pastry case. I was intrigued. However, the nurses were pretty strict about me leaving in my car with my husband after being discharged, so we never did get to check out the cafeteria. The nurses were really nice and my procedure went as expected. We were a little disappointed about the cafeteria, so I guess we will have to check it out some other day but that may never happen. The facilities were clean and nothing out of the ordinary happened, which is a good thing.

The hoag ER is amazing. The doctor and nurses were wonderful ... my first work night was great. My nurse joy and Leonora and Tommy were awesome and on top of it and They controlled my pain... And then my third day of being here Dr SALAMA completely changed my entire view of hoag... He wouldn't listen to me or how much pain I was in. I did the colonoscopy prep of drinking and the procedure was cancelled. So I went back the next day and got admitted again I was literally crying from overnight because the night before they had me on pain medicine which was very every two hours with Iv meds and this time. I was literally crying in pain my BP was 161/100 from the pain from 4 PM until this afternoon and. He wouldn't change anything he didn't care about the pain I was in. The G.I. doctor was supposed to come visit me that day at 2 PM. Never came..next day rolls around at 12pm and now they just want me to go because my blood is a little bit better even though I need to get a colonoscopy and endoscopy. He treated me like I wasn't even a patient. There is no sense of urgency Now's it's 2 pm and he wants me to go home and follow up w a Gi doctors bc there's never came while I'm still bleeding ... Screw Hoag and their incompetence doctors I'm going back to UCI

However, I come to this specific practice in Irvine because of the professionalism, integrity, and quality of care I've received. I have been coming here for about 10 years, as I used to have an office on Millikan Ave, very close by. The office staff, facility, and medical providers have repeatedly exceeded my expectations, and I credit this clinic with helping me through several serious health episodes, including UTIs that nearly progressed to sepsis. This is why I chose them as my family practice. During this recent visit, I had been traveling frequently and experiencing health concerns, so I came in for a preventative care visit/checkup. I met with Dr. Khan (Dr.K), who was exceptional...Insightful, thorough, attentive, and proactive. He ordered appropriate tests, explained everything clearly, and made sure I felt supported and understood. He asked that I return the next morning for fasted bloodwork, which I did. When I returned, I requested a brief consultation to ask a follow-up question I had forgotten during my initial visit. The front desk kindly informed me that only a Nurse Practitioner was available. In my history with Nurse Practitioners, they have been just as helpful and knowledgeable to address my questions and concerns as MDs. I have a great respect for all medical professionals, whether MD, DO, NP, PA, etc. I was more than comfortable meeting with any medical provider available as my primary care provider. However, my experience with the NP I met, Vanessa, was the complete opposite of the standard I've come to appreciate here. She spent less than 10 minutes with me, was dismissive and condescending, and showed no interest in my symptoms, concerns, or medical history. She asked no clarifying questions and offered no meaningful assessment. It was the least professional interaction I've ever had at this clinic, and one of the worst I've experienced in the U.S. medical system overall. For anyone seeking thoughtful, intentional, and high-quality care at this practice, I strongly recommend seeing any provider other than NP Vanessa. This practice does not offer appointments, so I would advise just calling the front desk staff who are exceedingly helpful and lovely, and ask how to avoid coming in on a day where the NP Vanessa is working. I would suggest you seek care from anyone else at this establishment, if you hope to engage with a medical provider that is willing, attentive, thoughtful, and caring. Aside from my one terrible experience, every other interaction I've had at Irvine Urgent Care has been excellent. The front desk staff, interns, nurses, and lab team have all been professional, efficient, and consistently wonderful to work with.

It was a busy Friday night, yet the staff treated my father with urgency, dignity, and genuine compassion. What could have been a chaotic and impersonal experience instead felt human and attentive. After we arrived, the ER team worked tirelessly -- not just medically, but administratively -- coordinating with insurance, social workers, and case management. When my father became stuck in the ER due to complications with his prior facility refusing readmission, the UCLA team did not give up on him. They continued advocating, communicating, and ultimately helped secure placement in a better facility after nearly a week in limbo. That level of follow-through meant everything to our family. I especially want to recognize Nurse Claire in the ER. Her kindness and humanity were extraordinary. She gave my father blankets, made sure he was comfortable, and even offered me blankets, food, and water during a long and emotional night. She cleaned my father up with such care and dignity. After 10 hours of uncertainty, she brought calm, reassurance, and genuine bedside compassion that I will never forget. I also want to thank Dr. Carson Dangberg for advocating for my father during a very unfortunate situation. His professionalism and willingness to step in made a real difference. In one of the hardest moments for our family, this ER team reminded us that healthcare can still be compassionate and patient-centered. We are deeply grateful.

Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Jeffrey S. Yoshida was deeply concerning and did not live up to this institution's reputation. The Major Issues: Lack of Preparation: Despite transferring all my records, the doctor appeared not to have read my chart. He asked basic questions about my treatment (Brachytherapy/seed implants) that were clearly documented. Questionable Clinical Advice: He dismissed my concerns about PSA "nadir" timing for LDR Brachytherapy, claiming "they are all the same," which contradicts standard medical literature and my previous specialists' guidance. Professionalism & Privacy: I overheard the doctor making disparaging remarks about the "strange" patient he saw right before me while he was still in the hallway. This raised immediate concerns about how he discusses patients behind closed doors. Administrative Failure: I filed a formal complaint with City of Hope Patient Advocacy. They lost the complaint. I refiled a 2nd time and they called me in a day and promised a written response in 30 days. That time has now past and I have been ghosted. I canceled any future follow up with doctor and went to UC Irvine. The UCI doctor was spectacular. What a difference! Stay away from City of Hope. Bottom Line: If you are a patient who values a doctor who studies your history before walking in the room, I suggest looking elsewhere. My new doctor demonstrated professional immediately. He demonstrates better engagement and preparation.

And as of December 6th, they've limited the chat functionality even further, and now might CHARGE you to chat with them, if they deem your question takes up too much of their time. Oh, and you're almost out of insulin and need a refill? Good luck getting ahold of anyone here for a few days. Hope you don't have to go to the ER just to get some, but if you do, don't go anywhere affiliated with UCI Health! Above all else though, the staff is so unbelievably incompetent it's comical. For example, I was charged several hundred dollars for a "test" I never even received, because someone typed in the wrong billing code. It's been THREE MONTHS since this has happened and NO ONE wants to figure it out, take responsibility or solve a problem they created (because of their own mistake!). But now I have to deal with it, or else that bill gets sent to collections. Great! What the hell is going on with this place? They should be sued into oblivion for patient neglect. You can laugh all you want at how dramatic this review sounds, but these are people's lives at stake. I'm finding another doctor, I'm so so so tired of dealing with these incompetent clowns. Attached is my most recent attempt at getting in touch with Cherene Borj, supposedly a supervisor at my doctor's office, who assured me she would keep me posted and help get my issue solved - surprise surprise, more lip service and broken promises (what they ACTUALLY do best here). Norma, Chelsea, and Emi cared for us with such warmth, reassurance, and skill that we immediately felt safe and supported. Their calm presence, constant encouragement, and genuine concern for our well-being turned what could have been a stressful experience into one filled with confidence and peace. Our appreciation continues for the post-delivery team--Sydnee, Helene, Carrey, Suzuki, and Jessica--who helped us through recovery with patience, attentiveness, and heartfelt compassion. They treated us not just as patients, but as a family welcoming a new life into the world, and that kindness will never be forgotten. Exceptional Care During My Mum's Final Days…read more On November 1st at 4:00 AM, my husband brought my 96-year-old mum to the Kaiser Permanente Irvine Medical Center Emergency Department, where she was admitted to the 2nd floor -- Room 208 -- with pneumonia. She remained there until she passed on November 8th. It was an incredibly difficult week for us, but I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the physicians and nurses who cared for her during that time. They didn't just treat her medically -- they cared for her with respect, dignity, warmth, and genuine compassion. Even as her body grew too weak to respond to treatment, the entire team made sure she was comfortable. When we were unsure about what to do next, the nurses guided us gently and helped us understand our options without pressure. Knowing she could stay where she was and receive comfort care brought us so much relief. We chose to keep her there, surrounded by family, and the staff supported us every step of the way. Her final days were peaceful because of the exceptional care she received. To everyone who took such wonderful care of the patient in Room 208 -- from November 1st through the 8th -- thank you for your kindness, your patience, and your compassion. I apologize for not remembering everyone's names; grief makes the mind foggy. But please know that we will never forget how you cared for my mum, and how you helped us through one of the hardest moments of our lives.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT REGISTERED NURSE HARBINGER…read more I had a concerning experience during my visit. I asked a nurse if I could drink water due to severe dry mouth (I'm on medication and was told to stay hydrated) and was told no until the doctor arrived. When I asked if she could page the doctor, she responded, "I can page them but they will come whenever they can" in a dismissive and unprofessional tone. Later, I reported numbness in my fingertips to another RN. When HARBINGER entered and exited the room she did not wash her hands, did not wear gloves while handling my IV, and struggled to put on my IV fluids due to her long nails. This raised serious concerns about hygiene and patient safety. When I asked to speak to the charge nurse, Camedin she was unavailable so another RN came to take my concern Overall the experience felt unprofessional and unsafe.

Every doctor, nurse, technician, and support staff member I've encountered has treated me with genuine kindness and respect. I have lived with immunodeficiency illnesses my entire life, and about ten years ago, I nearly lost my life due to a surgical error at another local hospital. That incident left me unable to use my legs. When I came to Hoag, their staff didn't just treat me -- they truly supported me. They carefully coordinated my recovery and guided me through seven years of extensive treatment and physical therapy. Because of their dedication and encouragement, I regained the ability to walk, something I once thought might never happen. I will always be deeply grateful to the incredible team at Hoag for helping me rebuild my life. I wholeheartedly recommend Hoag Hospital to anyone facing medical challenges. The care they provide truly makes a lasting difference.

Highly recommend you steer clear of Hoag ER and ER Doctors…read more After going to the NB location on a weekend for a fractured forearm and what turned out to be a shattered elbow needing plates and screws, the Ortho doctor, who never saw me and sent a TEXT to the staff, thought it was appropriate to send me home in the most useless sling and referred me to my PCP. On a weekend, with no access to my PCP and in the most pain ever, I was forced to go to another hospital who deemed my case sufficient for admission and performed surgery. The extra damage that was done by not treating my injury properly is also on record and totally unnecessary. How completely wrong on every level for Hoag NB ER and doctors to completely dismiss my case the way they did. Yes, complaints have been filed with the appropriate agencies and whether or not it affects them, they are on record!

**Labor and Delivery Review**…read more We delivered our baby girl on 12/3/2025 at 2:56 pm and this review is for the entire labor and delivery staff. My husband and I had such a great experience, especially from our awesome nurse Ally. From the very beginning she made me feel like I was in safe hands with my delivery and the plan, which couldn't have gone better. Ally made our last delivery such a great experience that we already miss her. Our delivery doctor was also so amazing Dr. Gelareh R. Nikpour-Heravi she was very gentle and had very good bed side manners. We are over the moon and so thankful for all the staff for helping us bring our last little blessing into this world. So thankful!

I had my eyes close the enitire time when the nurse took it off of me before taking me to CT scan so i wasnt able to see who it was. None of the nurses introduced themselves to me and they were talking about their personal lives while I had my eyes closed on a gurney in the hallway. The care was mediocre, the nurses were unprofessional and no accountability in the hospitals part for the lost items which was not my fault but taken off by their own nurse. Don't go to this hospital/ED if you can help it. This place here has absolutely no accountability for their errors and will just send you a letter basically stating to eat it because we won't do anything about it. Hope this will be helpful so you won't have to eat it when you lose something precious and priceless while absolutely receiving mediocre care from people who don't care at all. I was transferred to Kaiser Permanente after and the care I received there was excellent and you can feel that the staff actually gives a damn about you as a patient.
