Barista was very kind, and quick. We ordered a chai and a small coffee, both were hot, and delicious. And the prices were very reasonable.

What you'd hope for in an updated rustic old Vermont building. 2. The service has been excellent on both visits, with the caveat that breakfast is busy and the food took a long time to arrive. 3. Breakfast was solid. Not transcendent but solid eggs and toast and home fries and coffee and everybody seemed happy. Room for improvement 1. For Putney Vermont - get some decent vegan and vegetarian options. 2. The veggie burger was bean based, mushie old-school 70's style. Fell apart as soon as you picked it up. 3. The cheeseburger was good. It's just that for $18 you could show a little more attention to detail. A greenish slice of winter tomato. A single leaf of iceberg lettuce. 2 ringlets off an onion slice. And no pickle. 4. The fries that came with it had to be sent back to be cooked longer. And there was a big puddle of oil on the plate once I slid the par-cooked fries onto a side dish. The server was lovely about it and they came back fast and cooked through. But my guess is the oil wasn't hot enough hence the grease puddle. 5. The chicken orzo soup was meh. I don't try it. Brought it home for sick family member. And sorry but my personal pet peeve - the pre-calculated tip options were 20,22,25% and all calculated on top of the sales tax. Understand that it has gotten VERY expensive to go out for a burger for your average local. So putting a little more attention into it would be greatly appreciated. All the best, and thank you.

We were actually going to head back after we roamed around the downtown for a bit to pick up some to take home when we turned a corner and found this second location. What luck! It was ice cream fate at work. The shop is lovely. There's a gift shop section (also at the sister location but we didn't go in on that visit) with really nice, quality home made gifts and other baubles. We ended up picking up a bear playing hockey who we named Zook 'Five for Fighting' Bear and he's a treasure. Great price too. We chatted with the woman behind the counter and found out her husband creates all the ice cream flavors. He's a genius! We got a small cheesecake key lime pie in a cup to go and ate it within probably five minutes. We were pigs, I admit it. We almost went back but behaved. If you love interesting, well made flavors then you have to try this place. Even if you don't go with the best flavor ever made aka cheesecake key lime pie, you will find a delicious flavor guaranteed that will make you a fan of the Blueberry Haus!

Cute place but this sign is obnoxious and a sign of the times. Plus I ordered three pieces of their candy along with my husbands Ice cream and she gave me the wrong ones. Never offered to correct the problem.

There are places that make you feel as though you've stepped into another era, and Hidden Springs…read moreMaple is one of them. Tucked away about an hour north of Hadley, Massachusetts, the drive alone is worth making. On this visit, the sun was shining, the temperature never climbed above 80 degrees, and the winding country roads were perfect with the sunroof open. By the time I arrived, it already felt like I'd left the rush of everyday life behind. I've always been fascinated by how real maple syrup is made. The kind that comes from the sap of maple trees rather than the artificially flavored syrups so many of us grew up with. While I didn't get to see the sugaring process itself, Hidden Springs Maple serves as the retail home for the family operation. Inside, the rustic barn-style shop is wonderfully nostalgic, with weathered wood, shelves lined with glass bottles and jars, and the unmistakable feeling of an old-fashioned country store. It feels less like a gift shop and more like a place where New England traditions have been carefully preserved. The young man behind the counter patiently entertained every one of my tourist-style questions, answering each with genuine enthusiasm and an obvious pride in the craft. Before making a purchase, I was invited to sample three grades of syrup--Amber Rich, Dark, and Very Dark (Robust)--a thoughtful touch that lets visitors appreciate how the flavors deepen from one variety to the next. Amber Rich was my favorite, and I happily left with a jug, along with maple cream, locally produced honey, smoked maple syrup, and a gift box of regional jams. Now comes the only real challenge: figuring out how to pack the maple jug and those glass jars for the trip home without breaking a single one. It's a small price to pay for bringing home a taste of a place that feels wonderfully timeless.
