I have become increasingly tired of Starbucks, but less so of other chain coffeehouses. That said, I always seek out the independent coffeehouses. Mostly, I was sold on the name (Rustbelt) of this coffeehouse in Downtown Toledo, just a few blocks from the small cluster of downtown mid-rises. Inside, it has the open floor plan with exposed ceilings up above, which works very well here and fits the industrial Rust Belt mood. The seating options were to my liking: big butcher block type tables meant to be shared, smaller tables, and upholstered seating with coffee tables. I wish I could have stayed at Rustbelt longer. It was a warm and humid summer day and I had an iced tea and a pastry. The items were tasty. The pricing was fair and the service was unremarkable, but did lean toward being good natured. Parking is available right in front along the street, should you want to keep an eye on your car. That said, I couldn't get a read on the location ... it seemed that there were other eateries and bars nearby, so maybe that meant it was okay. Also, I couldn't figure out where the customer base came from. Usually, bohemian coffeehouses have bohemian enclaves nearby where the bohemian people live. I didn't see any, or maybe I didn't look long enough. I couldn't imagine them being suburbanites. Lastly, I believe I've always seen Rust Belt spelled as two words. If they want to stylize this and go with one word, that's their prerogative. So, what you have here at Rustbelt Coffee are good tea/coffee with pastries to choose from, fair prices, decent service, and a spacious open interior plan where the climate control system was working very well. That sounds like 4 stars to me.

I first discovered this cute cafe' 12 months ago and gave it 5 stars because the Turkey Reuben…read moresandwich was amazing. Today, I tried something else that I unfortunately didn't love, so I'm rating it 4 stars. Today, I didn't place my to-go order ahead of time and instead walked in and sat at the counter and sipped on a diet pepsi while I waited. I would describe the decor as cozy, rustic farmhouse chic, with lots of pictures of pigs. I had time to take pics while I waited for my order. I stopped in a bit later than the usual lunch rush, so there was literally no one dining in. A couple of people came in to pick up their carryout orders. The server was very friendly and down to earth. I ordered the pepper smoked turkey sandwich based on some reviews that raved about it. Rather than chips or fries, I opted to upgrade to a slaw for $2 more. I couldn't wait to get back to the office and try the food. Before digging in, I took photos because everything looked delicious. The meal was top notch quality. The turkey was thickly sliced with artisan lettuce and a garlic aioli sauce, plus cheddar cheese. The bread was a tasty sour dough. I ordered it without onions because I didn't want onion breath. Despite the high quality ingredients, it somehow wasn't amazing. It was very good but I didn't taste the pepper flavor on the turkey. The slaw was a nice mixture of kale, cabbage and carrots. For my taste, the cream sauce was on the sweet side, whereas my preference is less sweet and more tangy. Nevertheless, the ingredients were very fresh. As I reached the bottom of the bowl, however, there was a lot of runny cream sauce. Again, my personal preference is for less cream; someone else might love it. I know it seems like I am being overly picky, but I should mention that the total cost of my lunch (before tip) was $18.75 (sandwich, slaw and diet pepsi that was a fountain drink with mostly ice). Yes, everything is expensive these days, but I couldn't help being disappointed. I would absolutely return and order the Turkey Reuben in a heartbeat but wouldn't order the pepper turkey sandwich, slaw or soda. I'd also recommend dining in the adorable restaurant rather than eating at an office desk with plastic utensils!

The menu is generous and varied from Nashville hot chicken sandwich, smoked beef, turkey bacon gouda, and even vegan-friendly dishes like a crisp vegetable hash. Portions are hearty and filling, and everything we tried (butter fries included) was well-seasoned and done right. The décor has a charming, homey rustic vibe, with cozy seating and plenty of character. Service was friendly and attentive, though things do get a bit loud when it's busy but that adds to the lively atmosphere rather than taking away. Prices felt very reasonable for what you get, especially given the quality and freshness. All in all, The Adams Street Café is a solid go-to for breakfast or lunch in Toledo.

While there is a coffeehouse/breakfast/lunch spot there is also the ability to pay for a membership and have access to some more private areas. This is an up-and-coming neighborhood, and everything we had was delicious. One of the women in our group got an iced chai, I had a great Cortado. Two of us split a salmon Caesar wrap. It was enormous and plenty big for two people. They have excellent waffle fries. The service, impeccable. To be fair, you go up, you order, and it's pretty much self serve like most coffee houses. Now, where they could improve. I tried to order a breakfast sandwich at 11:05AM and was told they had moved on to the lunch menu. Having a very small menu, it would be helpful if you could order breakfast items all day long. I went in really wanting a bagel with hot honey and bacon, but it wasn't available. While the salmon Caesar wrap was good, I really wasn't looking for a full lunch. Luckily I was able to split something with a friend. It is a very small menu. I can't stress that enough. I do like that they have seasonal drinks, call me crazy because I know it was almost 90° today but once school is back in session, I want a fall option. They didn't have one yet. Lastly, the parking! A lot of the parking was cordoned off today. It was like that the last time I went too. Parking was tight. That wasn't such a big deal for me, but it would be for a client. I meet with a lot of seniors with mobility issues. They just isn't a lot of accessible parking. This is a great event space and they have awesome coffee. I just wish the menu was a little larger or at least allowed for a full day menu and I wish parking was a little more accessible.

The service is friendly, fast, and accurate. The only downside, IMO, is that Earth doesn't accept cash. Not a big deal, 'cuz I got credit, baby!! I haven't eaten their food, yet, but I can't imagine the food at a coffeehouse could taint my opinion of the place. Oh, by the way, the coffee is excellent. And sometimes, I need a little caffeine-laden pick-me-up to catalyze, perhaps, an evening workout. Well, EC offers a unique opportunity to do both, simultaneously! Rating? Myself and the Mrs have been checking out the downtown coffee scene, and so far, Sweet Nate's is our favorite. Located in the Oliver House, the look and feel of this place is outstanding. I've always had a thing for mid-century aesthetics, and Nate's has some. Their music comes primarily from a collection of vinyl records. Thumb through the 450 to 500, or so, albums, find one, take it to the barista, and they'll play it for you. Cool. By no means am I a coffee connoisseur, but I really liked their product. I ordered the "marriage latte", and my wife got a blueberry Italian soda. Both were excellent.
