The fact that they accept credit cards through Square, but charge $5 for using it is highway robbery. I wouldn't mind them charging me the less than 3% fee that Square charges them, but $5 to purchase a donut?! Nope. Recently ordered a few donuts and they were not good. Powdered sugar donut was burnt to a crisp and hidden under the sugar I honestly thought it was a chocolate donut when I ordered it, but it was just burnt. Not a pleasant experience, and would not recommend ordering any donuts. The others we had were below par as well. read more

Louie's makes pies & cakes that are better than those my grandmother made, & she was a gourmet cook who knew all the Frenchie words for frosting & that stuff. We stopped in Louie's Bakery in Marshall, MI. What an utter disappointment! We walked in and the woman working behind the counter was actually in the back. She came out, didn't smile at all or greet us even after we said "hello" first! She said, "Is there something I can get you?" She acted like we were a total annoyance and that we were bothering her. Her tone was quite sharp and unprofessional, downright rude. We explained that we had never been there before and said that we had heard they made European style breads. She said, "No, we don't do that here." Again, rude tone, no smile, nothing. Horrible experience. Horrible "customer service". We went here because it was on the Top 10 doughnuts in Michigan list. A little underwhelming. Tried a long john, which had a really good filling and a nice chocolate frosting, and a chocolate frosted donut with bacon on top. The frosting was great in both but the donut and long john were a little too spongy for my taste. The cash only policy is also kind of a drag. I really wanted to try a buzz bomb, but was told they were out until September. It would seem like such a popular item wouldn't be so seasonal. read more

Really crowded the Tuesday morning before Thanksgiving - lots of cookies that were called "Saturday Cookies" that were "day old" for $3.00. The man in front of me wanted a cake but because he didn't order it, they could not help him. Great selection of donuts. You haven't lived until you've tried one of Louie's NUT ROLLS. They are a must have if you are in Marshall. They are closed on Mondays. And closed around a few holidays, so don't make a special trip without checking first. I would have given them 5 stars if their service was more friendly. Not a happy crew. Louis was recently voted by the people as one of the most popular donut shops in Michigan. In my opinion they have amazing donuts that can't be surpassed by any donut shop within at least a hundred mile radius, I could be a little biased though. I grew up on Louis, so did my sister and mom. It is a family business that knows its regular customers and the women inside always have a smile on their face. Their nut rolls are what they are the most famous for but my favorite are their chocolate long johns. I can't count how many times those things were the only thing to get me through college finals. If your in town make sure to stop on by, but get there early because they go fast! read more

Truly the best long johns I've ever had, so it's worth the trip for me. I have to take a star off because they don't know the difference between a nut roll and a nutty donut, which is partially understandable because they are so famous for their nut rolls. But I called ahead, since I knew they would run out before I got there, and asked for long johns to be set aside. And do they have nutty donuts? She said yes, and I asked for some of those as well. When I picked up my box, there were two clerks and one other customer, and they could barely be bothered to find my order for me, so that's the other reason for this not being a 5-star review. Louie's bakery has a vintage feel to it. It is such a treat to take my kids there and let then pick their own beautiful cookie from behind the glass counter. Having worked in sales for a major corporation for 46 years I have had donuts & pastries all across America..this is a hidden gem in Marshall, MI @ the intersection of I-94 & I-69. It's well worth the 5 minute drive to downtown. Best Long John's in the USA!!! Coffee is above average. read more

Typically I do not write reviews but I was very annoyed with Louie's Bakery and still a bit annoyed about my experience. I went in to purchase four pies for a family meal that coming weekend and a few other items. I asked if they take credit cards because I did not see a sign saying they did but could see that they have a square credit card reader at the cash register. I was told they did but they charge $5 for the use of credit cards. I thought they meant a $5 minimum and the employee stated that it was a flat $5 fee no matter how much you purchase. So I was going to be charged $5 when I was going to spend almost $40 on baked goods?!?!? Even though square charges .275% per transaction. I understand small business need to cover the cost for running credit cards and I get that. Charge me a dollar to cover the cost and all would be well. But $5 is just rude and annoying. I will avoid them now and I have no problem traveling to Battle Creek for Sweetwater Donuts who take credit cards and are open 24/7. I just do not like the feeling of being taken advantage of as a customer, I can be very loyal if taken care of and they have lost me with this price gouging. read more

I absolutely think Louie's is a gem. I have been coming to Louie's for years. My Wedding cake and Groom's cake both came from Louie's and they were not only beautiful, but so delicious. I started going to Louie's over 17 years ago, when we would go to Marshall and visit my father in law. Now that he is gone we do not get up there as much. But when we go anywhere near Marshall we have to stop and get Louie's dough nuts. His nut rolls are the best ever. I will go out of my way to stop. I had never heard of Louie's I attended a birthday party and there was 5 different cakes from Louie's. I have never ever tasted cake like it!!!!!
