Another record store day. This year it is cold and dreary, but of course it is spring so we are out. This year we are here for Lydia Loveless and the records. Pretty good so far and acoustic which is better for my hearing. She's pretty funny as well, able to laugh at herself. Not a long set, but was still long enough to be enjoyable. After searching long and hard for the perfect record store in Columbus, I finally stumbled upon Lost Weekend Records in Clintonville. Appropriately enough, I found this great shop on National Record Store Day. When I walked into the store I was stunned by a single fact. The store carries almost exclusively vinyl! Few CDs are to be found anywhere in the tiny shop. I ended up buying an Of Montreal 7-inch and an Elvis Costello 12-inch single. Great finds! I could have easily purchased many more, but I was on a budget. I'll be back soon with a pocketful of cash. read more

I never knew this existed and just got a record player so this was a fun find. The employee was very helpful and informed about the different genres I was interested it. He also was wearing a mask and was mindful about social distancing. The records were in excellent condition but some were very pricy depending on the artist. I will definitely be coming back and would highly recommend this shop. read more

I finally went here after looking at the reviews and I must say I wasn't all that impressed. While the store did indeed have some Vinyl, it was certainly not as good as Allied in Toledo, OH and I'm honestly not even sure it was as good as Singing Dog on Campus. Having been to many of the US/Canada "Landmark" music stores like Amoeba, Sonic Boom, Vintage Vinyl, and Academy I still stand by my statement that Used Kids is the only store I've found in the midwest that holds a candle. A solid store with a friendly staff, but only #3 in Cbus on my list. Prices were okay, but not stellar by any justification. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go for vinyl. They have a really good selection spanning many different genres of music (I'm partial to their great folk music section). Their prices are some of the best I've seen and it seems like there are always sales going on. Lost Weekend also has a section of bargain bin records where you can find all kinds of random goodness for really cheap! Now that's what I'm talking about!! As for the service, I've always found the man working there (I'm guessing his name is Kyle from the other reviews) to be very helpful and friendly as well as knowledgeable. My fave Columbus record store, period. Owner Kyle is dedicated, not just to the pursuit of vinyl but to live music, to the neighborhood, and beyond. I've lived away from Columbus for most of the shop's 12 year life but Lost Weekend was a frequent destination on visits back. I spend most of my time in the back room's oddball sections in the left racks, usually ending up under the racks sifting through piles of 7"s and even the 78s. A pity that the bottom-line price of most of the upper-rack records is $5, but Kyle will often cut a deal at the register to help that. One other complaint: I'm about the same height as the ceiling of that room (6' 4"). One day I will take out a light bulb by accident. What's impressive is that as tight as space is there, Kyle still manages to host in-store performances. He also has the drive to coordinate various parking lot events and off-site events (the next is August 17-18 at Ace Of Cups). The Lost Weekend Facebook page is frequently updated, and after the big summer storms Kyle even rounded up a list of what OTHER record stores were with/out power and open... like I said, a community guy. One of the best named record store, or any business I have heard, Lost Weekend Records must had been named after the time called in John Lennon's life when he stepped out of his marriage and ran off with his personal assistant. Today the semi-poetic name conjures up the culture of the past now lost, when Indy record stores were plenty and incubators of local music scenes. It could had been called Lost Monday Night, in remembrance for when stores like this stayed open passed midnight so fans could get new releases of albums first thing. Those were events, parties that brought people together and I have dear memories of my youth of them; it is a lost that todays kids do not experience them. Everything else about this place, situated in the house south of Cup O' Joes on High, is too a classic Indy joint. It was once in a narrow hallway down the street. They moved in here a few years ago. Inside is multiple rooms of mainly vinyl, but CDs and art as well. As said in pervious reviews, the owner is a true music fan, the kind of expert who probably favor bands and artists not not esteemed by the public, the musician's musicians. But he doesn't have the arrogance that is often stereotyped as such, like Jack Black in High Fidelity; he is very friendly and works hard for the customers. Lost Weekend prices are reasonable, though the inventory is often inconstant in both amount and selection--it is a experimental place other than go to for something specific( as said in others, the staff will call around to find you what you search for). It is a fun place to blow some time, buy some music, and have fun. read more

I was in here looking specifically for jazz records and classic rock. I was very unimpressed with the offerings in both sections. Both the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin sections consisted mostly of the member's solo offerings rather than the most important albums, which was pretty representative of the whole section. The jazz section was a little bit better because some of the obscure offerings were still good, but there wasn't a lot of variety. Is that what passes for a good record store now? People raved to me about this place, but the selection was honestly on par with poking through your uncool aunt's attic, and your aunt is so uncool she still charges $8 for Robert Plant's second solo album. Also, these weren't bargain prices by any stretch of the imagination. read more

Great place to sell. The owner/buyer, Kyle is knowledgeable and friendly, and shows a real interest in each and every record he carries. Plus, he offers fair pricing and recommendations for other places to sell for stuff he cannot use. For buyers, the selection is equally amazing, and with Kyle's personally selected picks, you feel like you are rifling through a friend's well curated collection rather than a store. Stopped in here the week after Record Store Day as they had one of the records I wasn't able to pick up while I was in Chicago. I called before heading over and the guy (Chad? the owner) was super helpful and held the record for me. They still had all of their leftover RSD stock to peruse. I also browsed their new and used stacks and bought a few titles there as well. Everything was well organized and fairly priced. I probably walked by Lost Weekend three or four times during my time in Columbus trying to find the place. After finally locating the store, which is in a basement of a house that sits back off the street a little bit, I began to look around. The first thing I noticed after walking in is that this place is tiny! However, there is an absolute ton of vinyl inside to be had and although I only walked out with a copy of Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited, I am sure that others could find much more they are interested in. The guy working at the counter was extremely friendly and was holding a conversation with another customer the majority of the time I was there, a nice change of pace from the snobby record store employees that work at most stores. Although I enjoyed my experience here and the prices were fair, I can't justify giving Lost Weekend more than three stars for a number of reasons. First, they have a very limited CD section. Like most music nerds, I prefer records over CDs but its nice to have the option to go either way. Secondly, the place is not easy to maneuver if there are more than two or three people shopping in the same area. Lastly, I just didn't find enough here that I couldn't find elsewhere to keep me coming back for return visits. read more

Lost Weekend is one hell of a store. A great selection of new and used vinyl, and it is very well organized. I mainly come here to get my used vinyl because the owner has some of the best quality stuff I've seen. They're honestly not even that pricey if you see what you are getting. I've also heard a lot of stories about the owner and what an awesome guy he is if you talk to him. I love this place but I rarely find myself in Columbus anymore. I went to school in the midwest so Columbus/Indy/Cincinnati was my haunt. I did get a complete ass backwards layover recently that I opted to push to the next morning so I took some time to revisit a few places I haven't been in awhile.... Used Kids , Lost Weekend , Johnny Go & a new place... Spoonful. First off... LW. Always surprises ... always a friendly staff. Due to the locale I'm always able to grab some Columbus releases I should have grabbed years ago ... a Gaunt 7" here, a Scrawl CD there & a New Bomb Turk LP over there ... all at more than fair prices. LW is crammed... mostly vinyl but some a few CDs of interest. Ya gotta approach it methodically because there's alot of ground to cover. I always score great reggae there (last time Junior Murvin "Police & Theives" on original island for 7.99. ?????? Can't get any better than that! ) What's great about the shop is - not only the great records - but , as i remembered from long ago - there's always a "customer" or two or three hanging at the counter just shooting the shit. No pressure to buy, just hanging & enjoying the vibe & company. When I go to places like LW in Columbus, Stereo Jacks in Cambridge/Boston, Harvest in Asheville, NC, Lunch Box in Charlotte NC, so many .... that underscore just how dreadful Amazon, Best Buy, I-tunes, etc... actually are. Kyle runs a phenomenal store and has been going for 12 or so years. We have a fantastic vinyl community, and this is one of 3 stores that I frequent (along with used kids and spoonful). Kyle is a wealth of music knowledge and is always fair on prices. Doesn't sell junk and stands behind his sales. Always a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Will special order something if he doesn't have it in stock. Kyle also does a terrific job of incorporating the local music scene into his store, promoting bands, having anniversary shows, and having in-stores. I'd highly recommend this store, whether you're visiting town or a Columbus resident. read more

Lost Weekend became my favorite Columbus record store 3 years ago on Record Store Day. I don't live in Columbus at the moment but when I'm in town I always try to stop. What makes the place great is the owner, Kyle. He is a really good guy and someone you should definitely strike up a conversation with while visiting. This is not a pretentious store. Lost Weekend has a nice balance of new and used vinyl. I shop around a lot and the prices here are some of the better prices the city. He also has some regular sales where new is 10% off and used is 30% off. Kyle is really committed to the local record shoppers and doesn't ebay anything. He has introduced me to other stores in the area that I didn't know about. He has called around to other stores to find records I was looking for and he didn't have just to help out. Kyle posts all recent arrivals to Facebook so that's a really good way to keep up with the stuff coming in. The store is not huge. Probably only 500-700 square feet but it's bigger than Used Kids original location. There are bigger stores, some might have more used, some might have more new, but this store is a gem because of it's great balance of new/used vinyl and top notch ownership. read more

Real nice lineup of LPs and some CDs (I didn't really look at these, however) right on High Street in the side entrance of a large early 20th Century home that has apparently long since been divided into apartments. I visited on Oct 1, 2014 with little knowledge of the area so at first I didn't recognize it for what it was even though Siri had told me I'd arrived. There's a nice gravel private parking lot that goes with the business and plenty of metered street parking on High Street. Prices ranged from collector-only all the way down to red sticker specials. Lost Weekend records is one of my favorite places to buy vinyl. I went in the other day looking for the country music section(I was looking for Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn albums, don't tell anyone) and discovered an entire new room here I've never been in! The country music and folk section here is awesome. Everything is alphabetized, which makes it really easy to find what you need/want. Also, there is a gigantic selection of new vinyl, which is always cool to look through. Prices are solid for used vinyl, and I'm never let down here. My new favorite record store. The place is the exact formula for a great record store. It has vintage vinyl, rare hard to find records, a super friendly staff and lots of local bands. One Sunday, my friend and I walked in to look around, we ended up spinning records with the owner and walking out with records from a band I never knew existed. I felt like I was at a friends house. These guys love music...and all kinds. The owner and his first mate are full of musical knowledge. I make the rounds on "vinyl shopping day," but this is always the place that has what I am seeking.
