I've been here several times. We hit the place in between lunch and dinner as seemingly the only customers. Some of the staff were enjoying strawberry margaritas - or something like it - at the bar. We were seated quickly, but it took awhile to order and longer to get the food, given the empty restaurant. Some of it is pretty generic, like the refried beans and Spanish rice, but it's all pretty good. My Especial Nayariti was very good. A mix of Fajitas (beef, chicken and shrimp) over rice with cheese sauce. This echoes a dish that I used to get at another place down the road, but they changed their menu. The rest of the party had quesadillas, tacos, fajitas and more. Only the enchilada really disappointed one diner. But it was part of a combo platter that satisfied. I've been here before and had Nachos Fundido too. It's super with cheese and chorizo. I wish I got it this time too. I don't make it to Lansing as much these days, but if I want Mexican this has become the go to now. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the set up of the new East Lansing Los Tres Amigos. It is designed Chipotle style in that they make the food in front of you! It was $9 for the three tacos that I ordered. The tacos were filling as I was able to load them up as much as I would like which was great! The service was good and the staff were friendly. I just wanted tacos because they are usually pretty good. After being asked ten times for my phone number, I was finally was able to place my order. My wife and I got takeout on a much needed "us" night. The kids went to their grandparents and we stayed in. Los Tres is sometimes the simple and consistent Mexican food we want. Our order is most always right, the food tastes just like we want it, and we are satisfied when done. This order was pretty straightforward - Arroz con pollo with corn tortillas and add cilantro; Pollo Tapatio with a side of cheese sauce; a couple of ala carts tacos. Everything was right, even the side of tortillas (which has been the hiccup a few times when ordering). We live in Dimondale and have the food delivered via DoorDash. They are great about coming all the way out here. The food was warm this time (long drive I don't expect hot), delivered quick, and hit the spot. 4 stars because it's nothing super special or fancy, just simple food food. And because of my one tiny complaint. There is no option to add chips to your order. So regardless of how many entrees you get, your order comes with one bag of chips (about the size of a large fast food fry container) and a side of salsa. This is fine for a order for two, but when we've ordered for our family of 7 this is not nearly enough. read more

Had some fabulous vegan fish taco takeout tonight. I almost didn't order it because I don't like corn tortillas. These corn tortillas were good. The tacos were topped with cabbage, green and red peppers, sweet red onions and cilantro. Just got home from Los Tres Amigos in Lansing. I ordered the QUESADILLA, wasn't cut, just one large piece. I asked for melted white cheese on the side and it said it was $1.99 well they gave us our bill and they charged us $4.79 for a little dish of cheese. I asked to see the menu pointed it out but they had a lame excuse. They did give it to us for $1.99 like it said. No we won't be going back. Avoid this place. Beef chunk chimichanga was awful. Cooking oil hasn't been changed in a while. When I asked for it to be taken off the bill the gave a $2.82 discount. I ended up paying for a "veggie" plate because the refused to take my uneaten plate off the bill. NEVER EAT HERE!!!! read more

I pass this place and it's always packed! Very little down time but in suburban America a crowd doesn't always signify good food. I'm a mild fan of restaurant Mexican or texmex. I prefer my own or real foods of indigenous cultures. None the less I stopped by after a long day. The margaritas, which I typically don't like because they can be too salty or too sweet/syrupy were GREAT! Nice balanced and well made drink. They use mixes and syrups but someone knows what they are doing. The menu is extensive, almost intimidating for me. There are vegetarian options and everything is customizable. There were fish and seafood options as well. My special enchilada was in a cheese sauce served with rice and other fixins. The rice left a lot to be desired but it was ok. The cheese sauce it really good but I had to limit due to lactose issues. The salsa's were pretty good too. I was expecting a chunky canned salsa but no. I believe they make their own salsas, mild and hot. I like their hot sauce selections too, real heat. I may not be back for a while but I'll be back. This place is cool with me. So we all no I love Mexican food lol. So when I got into Lansing Michigan I was asked what I wanted well we came to this place. It's well lit outside so I'm thinking this is a neat place outa be good food. So we arrived our waitress was very good she took our drink orders. Soon after the chips n salsa came to the table. So here's were the food fiasco starts. The chips were great,the salsa was plum nasty. So I asked for some tomatillo salsa it was even worse. FYI I've always said if the salsa sucks the food won't be much better. Boy was I right!!! So we ordered dinner I had the beef fajitas. The fajitas came out good n hot nice setup for the sides your normal beans ,rice ,guacamole. I'm sry it had no flavor I was very disappointed in the whole dinner. My friends ordered tacos they said it was really good. Had a small but good bar I also had a few shots of Patron to kill the taste from the salsas. Reservation time was very slow and needs to be improved. Our party got skipped twice. They also mixed up the name of the guest. My friend had mol ca je te. She stated it was good, although they didnt know what it was; but could have been improved with the addition of the fajitas. Myself and another person had the fajitapina. fajita in a pineapple. Neither of us were able to finish it. It was delicious. Everyone else was pleased accept they for got the tortias. They music selection needs improvement, they play the same songs over and over again. Over all the resturant was clean. The accuracy may have been caused by new staff and the cinco de mayo holiday? We have always gone to this location. Have never had the best service, but this was close to the worst experience we've had tonight. 1st, our waiter didn't show up for several minutes. I'm leaning toward 10 minutes. Someone else came over and asked what drinks we'd like. We ordered waters and asked for crayons (4 of us: 2 adults, 2 kids). They brought out two waters and said they didn't have crayons and asked if we were ready to order. We asked for 2 more waters and ordered our food, and the waiter kept showing us the screen on his ordering pad in a motion like asking us what he was supposed to push for the order. Another staff member was constantly going in the other room without customers in it, typing on his cell phone. One employee came out of the kitchen with some type of food and tried to hand feed one of the girls that were waiting tables, saying "try it". My husband and I ordered taco salad with French dressing, my daughter ordered Mac & cheese with fries, and my son ordered a hard shell taco with bean instead of the meat, NO meat, just refried beans in the hard shell taco with the lettuce and cheese. The waiter came back to tell us they don't have French dressing, only Italian and ranch (weird because only French or Ranch were an option), so we said we could just use salsa (the table salsa was fine). He asked red or green salsa... red? First thing to come out: fries, just fries. Second thing: taco salads, then my son's CHICKEN?? taco??? We sent it back and asked for refried beans in it, NO MEAT... and asked for an extra plate. He said he'd "try"... Try?? Try to get an extra plate?? Then the Mac & cheese came out. Then my son's plate came out again- this time the taco was correct, but all rice on the plate, no refried beans...? So we sent it back yet again and he'd mentioned he tried, but he couldn't get an extra plate, to what we replied "you can't just give us an extra plate?" THEN, warm red enchilada sauce was brought out... we didn't use it, because we didn't know why we got it... then my son's correct order- finally. With an extra plate. Then we finished eating and he came over and told us how much we owed- no bill, just verbally told us. My husband handed him the card and he walked around the corner with it (literally the other side of the wall in the corner) and came back with it, THEN swiped it... where did he go with it initially?? We don't know. Then he printed the receipt and we noticed we were charged for red enchilada sauce... why?? I don't exactly know that anyone there was actually working, and we found it more difficult to try to get a refund of $2.25 for enchilada sauce we didn't order than to just leave. We won't be back. Probably for a long time. Sorry. They're not short staffed, like all the signs read. Plenty of people were standing around in their phones. read more

Hubs and I were craving Mexican and went to our local Los Tres Amigos. Since covid we have been eating at home, but tonight was a needed night out. Hubs ordered his usual platter and I decided to order the chipotle chicken enchiladas with mango salsa with rice and side of cabbage??? Umm cabbage..just plain...ok? I did ask our waiter for the chipotle sauce on the side not knowing hos this was and extra of the salsa. Well when my dish was delivered sauce on the side but curdled!!! I did get Xtra of the salsa but the mango flavor was not present? My chicken in the enchiladas was cold and overcooked...eww just not want you want served cold chicken !!! I mentioned to our waiter and he was not concerned or unable to understand my concern that this was not acceptable. Upon discussion with the hubs, we are trying to figure this out, restaurants need our business, you would think the customer service would be stellar, they need our repete business to survive. Guessing the manager does not have the same point of view. Upon cashing out I mentioned to the manager if our waiter brought it to his attention our dissatisfaction with my dish....and shocking enough he did not care.... wow I was stunned...really he didn't care.... Well I wonder if his manager was aware of how he handles these situations.... What has happened to customer service, what happened to the management following up??? Well not so much here. Always delicious! The service was super friendly and accommodating as we took our sweet time during a busy lunch Saturday. They were prompt with drinks, had good suggestions for food, and the food itself was excellent! We decided to go with the molcajete to split between two of us. It was a decent sized bowl, filled with chicken, steak, chorrizo, cactus, and cheese. Spicy, for sure, but delicious. The meat was well-seasoned but slightly overcooked and left just a little to be desired. There was a huge chunk of cactus that my fiance said was tasty, although I don't care for it in general. We asked for corn tortillas but were only given flour tortillas, despite asking again for corn. Oh well. It came with a side of beans and rice, with some sprinkled lettuce and tomato underneath the molcajete bowl, which I would have desired some extra. All in all, it paired nicely with our peach margaritas and the never-ending chips and salsa. You will probably catch me here again soon... read more

We wanted to eat and drink on a patio. That was our goal. We stopped at two other restaurants before settling on "mediocre Mexican" as my sister described it. To say the least, I wasn't expecting too much when I sat down. But I was sitting in the sun and we ordered a pitcher of margaritas, so life was pretty darn good. I got the chimichanga, as I often do. When it is the option, I go for it. But I was warned ahead of time by my sister that their ground beef was 'tasteless', so I went for chicken. It was pretty good. Mediocre Mexican is the perfect way to describe it. The drinks are great, the food is meh. But it had an outdoor patio and it was the first day of my vacation, and the first of three patios I wound up sitting on that evening, so it was magical. read more

I think I take bad reviews of a place on Yelp as a personal challenge, much like all of my airline pilots like to take turbulence as a personal challenge. By reading the reviews on this site, I decided to give it my own shot considering they were old. Whatever the beef with this place, maybe they read their own reviews and have made the necessary corrections because I had a wonderful dining and inviting experience. From the awesome monster margarita, to the delicious and portion-nuts molcajete, everything from the service to the environment was great. Time heals all wounds. And sometimes, time allows an establishment to plus their brand. As far as I'm concerned, for the money, I got an awesome meal experience, awesome service, and left feeling better for it. Meh. I ordered the pineapple stuffed with seafood, and it came out very charred and consisting of pretty much soupy queso dip with some shrimp and fake crab meat thrown in. I did find one scallop. The plate was so hot I couldn't get anywhere near it for the first few minutes, accidentally brushed against it and my finger is burnt and numb now. Also, I came in to dine alone and they sent me in the back room by myself with no other customers around for some reason. Not a great experience. The salsa was ok. read more
