I always adjust my expectations for the kind of place that I'm going to, and comparing this place…read moreto a supermarket like H-E-B would be doing yourself a disservice, and you would be setting the wrong type of expectations . Chepes is basically the little bodega by my house. It's a grocery store, butcher shop, snack bar, restaurant...kind of everything packed into one little place. I go here pretty often because it's close and convenient. If I need a random grocery item and don't feel like driving to a big grocery store, this is where I go. But honestly, the real reason I go here is the food. The little grill inside makes really good tacos. If you just want to grab a few tacos and get on with your day, this is a great spot. The butcher counter is also really good. They have meats already seasoned and ready to cook, which is perfect if you're a gringo like me and can't make your own taco meat nearly as well as they can. Take it home, throw it on the grill, and you're good to go. But the big thing for me is the tamales. I go here on the weekends and pretty much always buy tamales. It has become one of those things I just do now. Weekend comes around, I'm probably stopping at Chepes for tamales. Nothing fancy about the place, and that's kind of the point. It's just a good little neighborhood market with good tacos, a good butcher counter, and really good tamales. If you live around here, it's definitely worth knowing about.

If you've ever been to Mexico you know they do burgers with a different touch and La Casa De las Carnitas did NOT disappoint. The burger comes with ham, pineapple, and a secret sauce that leaves you wanting more. . I also got the Papas Locas with the carne asada. They give you a hefty portion and the refried beans were a nice addition!!! They weren't listed under the description so I was surprised, but the beans definitely balanced out the dish. There is also many different salsas to choose from. My personal favorites were the Chile de árbol and Salsa macha. I do have to warn y'all that the salsa macha is their spiciest one so if that isn't your jam avoid it. The árbol sauce can be spicy, but there are creamy inclusions which helps counter the heat. The owners are super friendly and service was pretty quick. I can't wait to return and try their carnitas as well as other menu items. The food truck is located in a bar that hold different events and has a variety of drinks which creates the perfect atmosphere to enjoy a drink with great food.

The restaurant was busy but there were open tables around 10:30 on a Wednesday. Server was prompt, good with refills etc. Ambiance: Casual. Good for families or meeting friends. There was one table with 2 people who were already eating their food and a table of 6 already eating. Then us. The table with 2 people had to keep waving his hand in the air to get his servers attention. Not a good sign. We ordered right away. While we were waiting for our order the servers were putting chairs on the table, mopping, and clean the tables. That is a HUGE GET OUT we want to go home! It took until 1:55pm before we got our food. We ordered breakfast food. The grits were ice cold and had a strange taste, my homestyle potatoes were cold but had a good flavor and my husbands were hot with no flavor. One of my eggs was completely raw. I did not eat the egg or the grits. The French toast was good. The final comment was when we were leaving. All the chairs were on the tables except ours. The server had mopped everywhere around us and mopped the exit. We were praying we did not slip and fall on the way out. (Can you say, super dangerous!) I don't see us going back any time in the near future, which is kinda sad because it has been very good before!
