Great service! Delicious house lime margaritas for only $5! The pina colada was good as well. Just be sure you to ask for the small because they will automatically give you the medium which is $8.99. Chips and salsa as long as you're drinking and the house salsa is really mild and flavorful. I just got an a la carte chicken enchilada for $2.50 and it was a really tasty snack. This place is awful! I hate to write a terrible review when times are tough but take my advice and don't waste your money. The staff is extremely rude, margaritas taste like chemicals and the food is horrible. I went during "happy hour" and they wouldn't even honor the happy hour prices they have displayed at the bar on a big sign which is extremely confusing. The bathroom is disgusting, they have a paper towel used as the handle/lock in the stall. My husband isn't one to complain about bathrooms but he said the guys restroom was just as bad if not worse. Quaint little area of town with several hole in the wall mom and pop shops and restaurants. I had quesadillas with chicken, shrimp and steak. Flavor was just ok. Atmosphere was great. Pleasantly surprised how good this was! Decided to give it a try because we had a coupon, but we were concerned after reading other reviews. After our experience, we'll definitely be back. Parking is on the street, there is no back lot and you have to pay for the parking (except on weekends at the meters). After a few loops back and forth on the street we were able to find a spot right in front. Service was quick but not the best. Food was way better than anticipated. Los Potrillos is MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT. Since discovering it a little over a year ago, I've developed an addiction and I am pretty sure the entire staff knows my order. Their margaritas are great, and inexpensive compared to the other local offerings. My favorite thing to order is Camarones a la Diabla. I have had actual dreams about this dish. For an extremely filling shrimp meal, it is relatively inexpensive at $12.99. My only complaint is that other college students have discovered this gem and it is frequently busy, and the queso is somewhat pricey. But neither are worth losing even a fraction of a star compared to how fabulous this restaurant is. read more

Mucho AWFUL! - Always wishing to support local businesses a friend and I decided to try the mexican restaurant over the (always great) Habanero Restaurant a block away from Los Potrillos in the Clifton gaslight. I ordered the shrimp and beef fajitas ...and it was TERRIBLE!!! I would not think a mexican restaurant could mess up fajitas, but I was wrong. These fajitas were just the absolute worst! Not only was the meat and shrimp dry and tasted old (like it had been in the fridge for a couple of weeks) but it was clearly the worst pieces of meat they had in the kitchen. In addition the portion was extremely small (not that it mattered since it tasted so bad) but even the vegetables were disgusting. The three pieces of onion and peppers on the traditional fajita griddle, were oily and cold. I am not generally a complainer, but this time I would have spoken to the Server about my entree, if he could have been located. Our Server came to our table a total of four times. Fifteen minutes after we were seated to take our order, another fifteen to bring our chips and drinks. And another 30 minutes later to drop our entrees (which I thought was a very long time for a mexican restaurant mid-week) and finally 30 or 40 minutes later to drop the check and clear the plates. I've waited tables on/off through most of my life, and I understand Servers can be hard to find on especially busy evenings. But the restaurant was not busy, nor was it empty. A handful of tables on a beautiful Wednesday evening. In other words, there were no obvious reasons for such terrible service. Moreover, to add insult to the rotten food, neither my friend nor I were offered a refill on our chips or asked if we would like a refill of soda or another glass of wine. What I paid for crappy fajitas, ONE soda and ONE basket of chips and probably the worst service I have ever had in Clifton, was about $23! Disgusting overpriced food with terrible service. Just a shame because I love the Clifton Gaslight and I am always looking for more reasons to spend time and money in the Clifton Gaslight community. Los Potrillos is possibly my favorite Mexican restaurant, because they've found a way to offer sizable portions for fair prices with above average service. This combination is hard to come by it seems, but LP pulls it off pretty well. Their menu includes what you'd expect in terms of substance, and as I mentioned before, the portions ensure you won't leave hungry. I also particularly enjoy the atmosphere, because it doesn't feel radically overdone, yet you're still aware you're in a Mexican restaurant. The only negative is that if you ask for a 2nd round of chips and salsa, they don't tell you that they charge you for it. This might be a standard practice, however I was unaware of it. Stopped in for dinner on a Thursday evening. Not many people were dining, but the place started to fill up as we were finishing our meals. The menu was huge, with something to satisfy everyone. The fahitas came on a cast iron plate and remained very hot until the last bite. Very good flavor and cooked to perfection. The combo plate had a chicken taco, an enchilada, and a chilupe. All were delicious and very filling. Warm tortilla chips and mild salsa greeted us at the beginning of our meal and were filled whenever they got low. Great service and very tasty Mexican food. Will definitely be going back soon. Did I mention the restaurant is directly nextdoor to the Esquire Theater? Great date night! The only thing that would have made our experience better would be, if the fahitas came out actually sizzling on the platter. I love the sizzling sound and the trail of smoke I have experienced at other Mexican restaurants. read more

First time here and will give them another chance. We asked for chips for the salsa and they brought our food to us before the chips. I ordered a super quesadilla that had corn in it. It arrived with no corn. The waiter told me it was coming on the side. This made no sense to me. They brought me out another one which looked much better. read more

Coming from Dallas we have been Very Disappointed in the Mexican food choices in Cincinnati. We have been to Los Potrillos 3 times in the past three weeks. Prices are great, Very clean, Outstanding service (they truly appreciated our business!), and the food has been consistently wonderful. Their chicken enchaladas are full of tender, white meat and my husband really likes the buritto with the beef and chicken mixed. Learned last night that they have only been open for 8 months so I want to help spread the word. Plus, if you like movies, we went there for dinner then headed right next door to the Esquire. Horrible food. I ordered the sampler platter, burrito barzon, and the mixed fajitas. Starting with the sampler platter...the wings were mostly fat and had no flavor. Pinchitos were dry, overcooked, and flavorless. Jalapeno poppers were actually pretty good, still warm on the inside and good crunch. Beef nachos were tasteless and too fatty. And the chicken tenders were tasteless and dry as well. The burrito was flavorless other than the pineapple. The meat was overcooked and under spiced. The mixed fajitas...as you guessed it...were flavorless, under spiced, and over cooked. There was barely any steak and if I found a piece it was mostly gristle. You can sense a theme by now I'm sure. I'd like to buy the chef a spice rack and teach them how to cook meat properly. I will definitely not order from them again and wish I could nominate them for kitchen nightmares. It was a pathetic attempt at mexican food and anyone associated with the product I received needs to take a long hard look at what they've decided to do for a job. read more

Margaritas are hands-down the best I have ever had, strong, not too sweet. The best deal is happy hour ($3.15 for a 16 oz margarita, and $2.99 for a 24 oz draft beer). Happy hour is Sun-Thurs 2-7. The food was just okay, but pretty much what you would expect from the prices. We tried the taco salad and the super quesadilla, both were decent but I've definitely had better. My second visit was quite a contrast to my first. Everything seemed so "meh". My margarita was all sour mixey and weak on the tequila. My supreme nachos were very forgettable and the sopapilla was just a sad display of 4 tiny tortilla chips with a little sugar and cinnamon sprinkled on top. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite and was seated quickly. Salsa and chips were brought. Salsa was a bit on the bland side, but definitely edible. I ordered the Mushroom Quesadilla with Beans no rice. My friend ordered Fajita bowl. Both came very quickly. Mine came with Rice anyway. I tasted it and as usual it was bland and lifeless. This is such and waste of money to serve unless you have a really great product the WHY? Step of the soap box Deb and back to the story. The beans were so-so. Nothing great but not bad. Just add some habanero sauce placed at your table and your good. The highlight was for sure the quesadilla. It was hot, and grilled firm so it never got the oh so familiar soggy bottom. I loved it. It was very tasty and filled with mushrooms in every bite. It didn't come with Sour cream so I simply requested it and it was right there. I would definitely come back if I were in the area. read more
