Ordered a torta, taco de nopales and chile relleno taco and it was $25. A bit steep for the food. My chile relleno taco had what seems like half a chile. The torta and nopal taco was much better. I will never order a chile relleno taco again ; it was $8 and had a sliver of chile and barely any cheese. The nopal taco was much better and cheaper; it was $5. In a neighborhood with a plethora of taco options this is in a class all alone. Food quality...service and the amount of food given for the price is all outstanding. Call ahead if you can because its made fresh and you may have to wait a bit. I appreciate that however that means my asada hasn't been simmering on a grill for hours. This is the best of the cook-to-order Mexican restaurants located near Cook County Jail. Either call your order in (it's about a 10-15 minute wait if you don't) or go in person. The meats are thrown onto the flat top grill raw, no precooked beef, chicken or other protein here! I like to order the chicken or steak burrito with cheese, cilantro and onion. This thing comes in a hair under 2lbs and is all meat. Ain't got time for veggies! Be aware, parking sucks during lunch time and there are only a handful of stools if you want to eat there. It's a small dining area facing the street. Air condition is decent but not great. I've eaten here for years and have never been disappointed. Their deluxe tacos come with avocado which is a nice change. It's a place you just have to try!! read more

Some of the best tacos in the city. I'm a regular here. A hole in the wall taco stand. Its a small place that has a few bar stools if you choose to dine in. Ive had the gorditas the tacos and on the weekends the menudo. All excellent. They open at 7am and are not open late. Come early as this place gets pretty packed. Owner taking orders at register and is helpful with ordering, etc. Also, everyone in here was Mexican so you can pretty much assume it's good. Extensive menu with the usual--Tacos/ Burritos/Torta's/ Gordita's/ Etc... they also serve breakfast. Had a Carne Asada Torta--comes with Beans/Sour Cream/Cheese/Avocado and it was excellent! UPDATE: So there is no place in Chicago like Los Olivos...The food here *seems* like what you would get elsewhere, but isn't...it's better than nearly anything else I have in the City Chicago! The meats are all seasoned extremely well and are just the best...my favorite is the pastor, which is different than the Al PAstor you get anywhere else. It's spicier, there's no pineapple, and it just makes my tastebuds light up (I'm practically drooling about it right now). The tacos are larger than nearly everywhere else...practically the same as 1/2 a burrito! Plus you get all the fixings you possibly want...avocado, cilantro, onion, tomato, & sour creme! As others have pointed out the handmade gorditas are amazing...try one ASAP! The burritos are gigantic and perhaps the best value on the menu. I grew up in a mixed neighborhood on the East side of Chicago and the food took me back to a place that I frequented when I was in high school, it brought back the best memories! I have been looking for this flavor profile since the store closed in my neighborhood about 20+ years. The carne asada was tender and flavorful and the toppings were very fresh. At first glance the rice didn't have the color I'm used to seeing in Spanish rice but don't let looks fool you it was great. This hole in the wall spot has been around for 30 years and im just finding about it.! I was skeptical after ordering the al pastor taco as i did not see the trompo but man let me just say it was so full of flavor and charred to perfection. I loved it! It was huge too with the works.. cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado, etc. I ordered an asada gordita and barely even tasted it. I was so full after the taco. I tasted the asada meat which didn't really stand out.. maybe cause i was so into the al pastor. My bf had the guisado de res taco and al pastor gordita and he loveddd the guisado. Upon leaving the restaurant, the guy taking orders recommended the carne deshebrada, wish i'd known as it did stand out to me at first when looking at the options. He said they sell out quick. Will def be returning to try it out. Food did take a while to come out and they gave one order first before the other which i'd prefer for both to come out at the same time so i don't eat my bf's food lol.! Little Village obviously has tons of mexican food but this is by far the best and definitely the freshest. I love the carne asada gordita. It comes complete in a handmade corn tortilla (gluten free!) piles of seasoned beef, pico de gallo, cheese, lettuce, sour cream, and several slices of avocado. I work in Little Village and it is always a great meal when I get lunch at Los Olivos. This place is the real deal mexican corner restaurant. Their burritos are fantastic and the tortas are amazing. Also, the staff is always extremely friendly. For example, one of my co-workers was in charge of getting dinner for his family for the evening. Since they knew he works in Little Village, they asked him to pick up some tamales. I called Los Olivos for him to check if they served tamales, which they do not. The owner called up her mother and asked if she could make a special batch for my co-worker and she happily obliged... two dozen were made fresh that afternoon. This is the kindness of the people that work there. If you're in the neighborhood around lunch time, I highly recommend it. read more

Let me just say....THE CHICKEN GORDITA IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE. Now please don't come here and expect to get your food in less than 10 minutes. It takes about 15-20 minutes for your food order, but when you walk in see them hand pressing the gordita shells you know you are in for a special treat. The customer service was amazing for such a small place and the food is seriously out of this world. My best advice is to sit down and eat your food here, taking it to go is also very delicious, but eating it here fresh is by far the BEST DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE IN LIFE.... Never again I will go there, I called in to order a chicken gordita at 11:17am got there at 11:47 and wasn't ready. Fifty minutes go by so I left. Every time I went to pick up an order it wasn't ready. Waited an additional 15-20 minutes. I mean, what is the purpose of calling in an order if it is not going to be ready? They have to expand their kitchen and hire real mexican cooks that can multitask. The guy in the cash register will ask you the same question 4 times. I've had their food twice and I love it. I have seriously been craving this place for such a long time. Their gorditas are amazing. They come packed with aguacate, lettuce, cheese, and a bunch more delicious ingredients. Their portions are big so you will not be left feeling hungry. The food is fresh and really tasty. Even after I have finished eating and I am full, I find myself wanting more. I have not had their tortas, but my cousin swears by them. The only downside I can think of is that they close at 4pm and have very limited parking, but don't let this stop you from going there! read more

One of the best lunch spots for Mexican food in Little Village. Had many things on the menu but two things stand out to me: 1. CHICKEN TACOS- pulled off the bone and toasted on the griddle to make it a little crispy. 2. Cantaloupe drink- refreshing on a hot day and washes everything down. Avoid going around 1130-1230 For the main lunch rush. Food takes a little longer than normal but it is steaming hot when it gets to you. Always fresh topppings, and very generous portions, never have to ask for extra anything! Average meal about 8 bucks but they do have a $10 credit card minimum.
