Me and my girlfriend came in since our go-to spot burned down, and wow... this place is a huge letdown. I got the steak burrito dinner, no flavor at all. They literally slapped one thick slice of tomato in there that tasted weird/rotten. Rice was bland, beans tasted like Italian sausage (not in a good way). My girlfriend got tacos, and they left out ingredients I asked for. Her tacos? Bland too. Asked for a small side of carrots and the server tried to upsell me a $4 cup of them. Had to go straight to the cook to get a little on the side and even those were bland. Paid $40 for food that tasted bland bland bland. I've been to their other location on Archer and they both served great food, but I feel they were a little bit more friendly at this location. We were the only one eating in, and they were very welcoming. It is cash only, so make sure you come prepared. When I went to their other location I made the mistake of ordering a taco along with their carne en su jugo. The carne en su jugo is a lot of food by itself when I ate the taco I had filled myself up way to fast to be able to finish the carne en su jugo. Not this time. I skipped the tacos and ordered a carne en su jugo only. The carne en su jugo is consistent with their other location. It comes with plenty of carne and the bowl is filled with broth, radishes, onions cilantro and a slice of avocado, bacon and beans. They don't skimp you on the meat and all the ingredients compliment each other. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the whole city and you can never go wrong with a carne en su jugo, especially when it gets chilly out. Nothing warms you up better than a nice bowl of carne en su jugo. read more

The best Carne en su Jugo! (Beef in its own juice) What makes the dish is the special red (olive?) oil based salsa. Very spicy so use sparingly at first then add to taste. If you're really hungry or don't mind a doggie bag, get the large bowl. Otherwise, the small bowl will do. The dish looses a star due to the chewy gristle they try to sneak in. I get it, they're trying to cut costs by buying cheaper meat. I wish they would just charge more and use better meat. If you just take out, do not forget that salsa. You'll regret it. read more

One of my favorite things about this place is the "Carne en su jugo". This soup has bacon, beans, peaces of stake. The fact is the it's addictive. We ordered a large bucket of the soup to go and it comes with only package of tortillas. You also get pepper, lime, onion, radish and avocado. Our avocados where a bit old and I wish we got a little more tortillas. People here are very friendly and nice. We didn't get to wait that long for our food. If you havd never had carne en su jugo you should definitely try it. Definitely recommend this place. I will come back again. read more

Ordered the steak burrito and it was eh. Steak was overcooked and I think the tomato was too big of a slice. They should dice them. The red sauce was ok...had a bit of kick to it. Look I'm going to be honest with you, is carne en su jugo delicious - FUCK YES, but the quantity of the dish has downgraded since the hype train started 4/5 years ago. Back in the day they use to hook it up, nice amount of broth, beans, beacon, steak, etc. Now you only get one tiny ass slice of avocado, barely see any beacon, smaller amounts of steak, and pure beans/broth and a big ass charred cebolla just to take up space. I want to say the 10 dollar portion has a smaller bowl too. It all business now, I swear I look at my bowl and feel like I'm eating broth with onions, cilantro and radishes - just call it verduras en su jugo already lol. Carne en su jugo is good every now and then but it's not what it used to be at least from what I remember. Sure people say quality over quantity but don't be skimpy either. If you have never tried it, I would recommend it - I mean you wouldn't know any better about how hearty the dish use to be but believe me after a couple of times of going you're going to be like 10 dollars for this, not worth the trip. I had carne en su jugo for the first time here and it was the first of many. It was served hot with plenty of fresh cilantro and onion. The meat was very tasty but I could have done without the beans. I added some of the spicy pickles veggies from the container on the table which made it even better. The soup is served with warm corn tortillas that apparently you're supposed to soak in the broth. We also tried the lengua, al pastor, and tripe tacos. Lengua and al pastor were the bomb but the tripe was not so great--it tasted like salted crispy fried metal to me. I have also had the shrimp cocktail which seems a little pricy for the amount but it was still good. Avocados are served with just about everything and they're really fresh and good! I've been getting carne en su jugo here for 15 years. It's always been awesome. It's my favorite cold cure and I swear that I spent an entire winter eating it and lost weight even though it's pretty filling and kind of oily. (To solve this, stick it in the fridge, remove the oil once it's done it's thing -- calories avoided.) My favorite thing to do is put everything in the soup -- chilis (not all of them because you will die), radishes, onion, cilantro, avocado, and a bit of lime. Stir it up and then scoop out some non-fluid parts, put them in a tortilla, put some of that awesome red sauce on it, and eat it like a taco. Then eat the yummy broth which I've tried time and time again to duplicate, but never succeed. I have an idea why, but I'm not going to divulge secrets here. As far as other foodstuffs here go, the carne asada tacos and burritos here are just OK. Not as good as La Pasadita, but better than a lot of places (including a taqueria nearby that has consistently provided me with digestive distress). But go for the carne en su jugo. I've tried it other places in the city and so far this place is my fave -- so much so that I make trips from Edgewater for it. read more

A few (dozen) sprinkles of oregano + a dab of their run-of-the-mill red sauce (the only one they offered + the pickled vegetables looked dry, though I admired their orange-y color) + I was strung out on enough carbs to shake the lingering question as to why ABC7's "Hungry Hound" would have visited here (which was evident by the framed photo which hung behind the cash register). Halfway through our meal, the waitresses started to clean ...The smell of "big pink" cleaning detergent took over any "you're in a resturant" smells + I felt as though I was eating in a train terminal. Fortunately, the price was right + I am willing to cut some slack since it seemed more of a takeout joint opposed to dine-in. Los Gallos has a several traditional meat offerings as well as chicken to stuff their tacos and burritos with. Each table is equipped with traditional condiments including a bottle or two of hot sauce, pickled vegetables, and salt. Service is okay; nothing spectacular. This joint is pretty clean for a taqueria. Food is prepared fairly quickly and you can expect it piping hot to your table a few minutes after you place your order. One thing to note is their late hours - making this a great place to stop by after warming up that bar stool. Summing it up, this place is cheap, fast, and pretty good. A dive looking interior--clean, but with a cafeteria level decor--which is sometimes a good sign for taquerias. It didn't pan out this time. I found the steak burrito meat very tough and overcooked, and even at $1.70, I've had much better tacos with fresher ingredients. They just threw in some cilantro and red sauce, which I found unflavorful--just some heat, but no pepper flavors. Given the number of options in the area, I don't think I will come back. read more

Carne en su jugo is definitely the specialty at this place. You can never go wrong with it. Being a regular here, I would definitely recommend getting the meat in it "well done" or "doradita" and adding salsa and lime. And nothing like the house's horchata to accompany your meal. If you're not into soup or whatever, I definitely also recommend the tacos de tripitas or pastor. Not a fan of the barbacoa to be honest. The service is nice and very attentive. The owner is always there during the day and is very friendly and likes to joke with the customers, making the restaurant a home-y environment. All in all I def recommend it. (you want dumpy? take a look,but don't go in 3-4 doors east, i'll review later ) also, you should try the restaraurant's specialty "carne en su gugo" (beef in its own juice). your first thought is " i can't finish this". until you dig in. a big bowl of small pieces of steak you'd normally find in their tacos in a soup-like mixtrure of radishes, cilandro, onions & -get this-bits of bacon. if you like a little zestiness, grab a dried pepper sitting at your table as a condiment, break it in half, get rid of the seeds & crush the pepper into the soup... the best! oh yeah, try that coffee, also great. read more

I'm very disappointed went for dinner and since I forgot to get cash before going , they only accept cash. I decided to use the ATM located as soon as ur enter and of course it wasn't working. Personally I think their tacos are greasy and over cooked.for being a well respected and know Mexican restaurant their quality of food can be better.
