Ordered beef nachos with extra beef and 3 beef tacos fully dressed, needless to say, fully dressed only means with pieces of lettuce and cheese and the hard taco shell was actually dehydrated and chewy and the nacho tortillas were so rubbery and flimsy with all the hardened SALTY beef and dried melted cheese stuck to it that I couldn't even eat it. Wonderful authentic Mexican dining! Well worth the trip! We kive over an hour away! This place is so nice and neat and very clean. The decor is very festive. Every room is painted with fun and colorful murals. Our waitress was so adorably sweet and fun and helpful. There are many excellent food selections on the menu with very fair prices. We had the Molcajete. Plenty of food to feed a small family!! Our food came out very quick, fresh, and hot. Everything tasted great! We were both full and satisfied! We will gladly return again! We Stopped in because some friends told us about this place. We were seated fast, got our drinks and food ordered fast. Their beef is nicely seasoned, you get a good amount of food, the red salsa is good and their green salsa is great too with a little heat. I really enjoy the food. I've never eaten anything at Los Mayas that I didn't like. It's Tex-Mex, not Mexican, so know that going in. I don't mean for that to sound bad; I just hate when reviewers use that as an excuse to knock a place. It's Tex-Mex and it's really good. The service can be hit or miss, especially with larger parties. The wait staff is not what you would call experienced or well-trained. Very nice and friendly, but they make mistakes that can be maddening, like forgetting to put in orders. If you can look past that, you'll definitely enjoy the laid back atmosphere and good food. read more

My husband and I have been here a couple if times since moving to Deridder. We've really enjoyed the food. Coming from Hawaii we were really missing what we call "Southern" Mexican food :) I absolutely love the Rellena Quesadilla! It's good. There aren't many restaurants around here, so as far as I'm concerned this is a "must-go". They lose one star from me because the restaurant isn't the cleanest place I've ever been. Honestly though, that seems to be a trend in all of the restaurants we've been to in this area. read more

The service was very good during lunch. Cheese dip too runny for me. We had the quesadillas. They were very fresh, served with quacamole & sour cream. Large potion but uncut. We use to come to this place a lot before they opened Mi Rancho. We had pretty good food and service except for the last two times I've went. The first one was they sat us down got our drinks and salsa and we never saw the waiter. My aunt said something then it was another 15 minutes before someone came.... The last time was we got waited and got our drinks and stuff and we didn't see our waiter for 15-20 minutes and my dad ordered a chimichanga and it had guacamole and lettuce and all that on the side and my dad said it tasted weird.... about 10 minutes after he got done eating he immediately had to go to the restroom. After that we went home and he said his stomach was hurting and while he was in the shower he started throwing up and throwing up until we put him in the car and went to the doctor..... he had food poisoning and that was the only place we ate that day so we stopped going there... other then that the food is good!! read more

Really hate the food here. The staff is wonderful, so kind and funny! But the food... I hate to say it, but it's awful. For instance, I went here on my birthday to eat with my family. I ordered a grilled chicken salad. When it came out, it was as cold as if it had just spent two hours crawling out of the freezer on its own. The chicken tasted like 100% recycled cardboard. The ranch dressing tasted more like fermented blue cheese. I didn't even touch it after the first couple of bites. It was utter garbage, I hate to say. Ruined my birthday dinner, for sure! This is good food...and plenty of it! We eat here regularly because the food is good, the service is friendly, and the serving sizes are generous -- usually one entree will feed 2 or 3 people. This building was a longtime "working class" BBQ joint. Los Maya is a "working class" Mexican joint. Possibly because Los Mayas does not serve alcoholic beverages, I feel like it's a great family restaurant. For what its worth, Mexicans eat at this restaurant! This is great mexican food for the area. We have been to each one in town and this definitely as close to authentic as it gets, especially for the price. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. They are also quick to fix any mistakes made without an issue. The food has great flavor and the portions are not bad at all. We have been coming here for quite a while and never had any issues, but earlier this year we came in, ordered drinks, then food. Waitress brought our food and then we didn't see her again after that, not once. My husband said something to whom we assumed was the manager and he made a comment about how busy they were. The place was almost empty, so that was wrong. Then as we were leaving, the waitress in question was going back in from apparently a long smoke break. As for tonight, same thing, same waitress. Food and drinks delivered and not once after that did she come check on us because apparently talking to a male co worker took precedence over her customers. An older lady actually saw that we were just sitting there and came over and brought our to go box and to go drink, THEN the waitress walked over and asked if we needed anything. Really? We watched her stand there and chat up this guy the entire time we were there and not once during our meal did she think to come see if we were okay. That's bad service, I'm sorry to say. This place is pretty good. It is definitely not "the best Mexican" that one can get in Southwest Louisiana. However, it does have Mexican taste more than Tex Mex. I've had Mexican in a Texas restaurant and I know which ones in Southwest Louisiana are close to real Mexican. I don't know why everybody in this area goes bonkers for this place. If you've ever had Mexican food at any place in Texas, this place will disappoint you. This is my second review, thought they deserved a second chance... ordered bean & cheese tacos and got bland bean tacos (HARD tacos) with cheese sprinkled on the shells! Seriously? I'll never be back. Also ordered something simple like taco salad -- not only was the chicken severely overcooked, it was as dry as the desert sun and was a chore to swallow, not to mention the entire dish was smothered in sour cream. My husband and I found this place while working in Deridder one day. The lunch #8 is the best plate of Mexican food I have ever had from Houston, Texas to Baton Rouge, Louisiana!! Now when we want to have a lunch or dinner date away from the kids we will drive all the way to Deridder just to have this food. I keep telling the owners/managers that they need to open one in Lake Charles because they would put every Mexican restaurant out of business. The food was surprisingly tasty. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 5 is because the "free" ice cream they gave us at the end was terrible! I had to throw mine away and rinse my mouth out! Under new management... This use to be a great Mexican restaurant. The red sauce is now from a cheep can. Both of our orders were wrong, but I rather have a wrong order then risk spit food. Our waitress was horrible and had an attitude like she couldn't be bothered with us. Twice once in front of my wife and once in front of me she reached across us where we had to lean back from her arm. The overall food quality has gone down hill a lot. Probably our last visit here. Slowly but surely, service has turned hit or miss with today being the most frustrating example. Around 130pm, sitting in front, only one other table occupied. Our waitress didn't check on us until she brought the food out and even then, Shen didn't come back to refill drinks for another 5 minutes (total of 10 minutes waiting on a refill). She never checked on us again and when she brought the check, she slipped behind me and dropped in on the table and left without a word. No offer of ice cream, no offer of another refill (which was needed), not a thank you, not a word. We sat there for another few minutes eating the chips and queso and she finally came back and asked if she could remove the plates. Sure. She grabs the bowl of queso and puts it on a plate and takes them away. The queso we were still eating, the queso on the chips in our mouths. Still no offer for a refill. Really felt like she was subtly telling us to get out. In no way were we bad customers, we used please and thank you, very polite and not demanding. The menu was tedious and overburdened. I like clean, fresh flavors and these dishes are overly complicated and half of the plate is covered with what tastes like velveeta cheese concoction. There were soggy cheese enchiladas with veg and fajita steak on top. the steak was given sparingly but I couldn't say anything about the flavor bc it was drowned in the strange queso. The refried beans were soupy everything was just soft and soggy and tasted like that horrible cheese. The chips were bland, no salt on the table. No alcohol on sundays. the salsa not worth mentioning. The big servings of bellpeper and onion and mushroom on the enchiladas was gorgeous and nice but agained drowned in that cheese like concoction. The menu is convoluted and items are over priced. the atmosphere and scenery are good enough reasons to not patronize this restaurant. Is it write-home about Mexican? No. Is it decent for Leesville? Yes. Free chips and a decent, albeit pureed, salsa. I had the chicken burrito San Antonio which was pretty tasty. My chicken was flavorful and moist, and the roasted tomatoes and peppers added a kick. The thing was heaped with sour cream, good guacamole, and cheese - perhaps not the healthiest of meals, but I kept eating even after my stomach told me to stop:) Good service, though the establishment is run down and chintzy. This used to be our favorite place to eat... Not anymore! We will never go back. We used to go 3-4 times a week (yes, a LOT) but then something changed and it has done nothing but go down hill. Used to never be able to find a parking spot, & now i drive by and wonder if they are even open! Last 4-5 times we have been I've had to send my food back and last time the cheese dip made me so sick I didnt get home before having to pull over to throw up... Today we went in and there was 4 tables and it took over 5 minutes for someone to come take our drink order! Which was actually the host that sat us (at a broken wobbly table that was dirty and then brought us a nasty broken and I mean BROKEN highchair for our daughter... We go to look at the menu and found that they have YET AGAIN removed over half the items...(2nd time within 6 months) at that point our waitress FINALLY come to the table... 10 minutes after we were seated... Needless to say we got up and walked out. If you are going to run a restaurant then you need to stop changing things that were GOOD, & making them worse... You also need to CLEAN your restaurant. We have tried to give the benefit of the doubt and kept coming back, but not anymore. We are done and by the looks of the empty parking lot, so are a LOT of your other customers. read more
