I've only had the Carnitas and chicharrones and they are the best I've ever had! It's especially good if you take the Carnitas and fry it up in a pan and then make nachos or burritos or whatever you want out of it read more

This review is for Taquería Los Compadres, which is at the back behind the market. Thanks Yelpers for pointing out this gem just off the 5! Hubby had 3 tacos: lengua, tripas, and chorizo, and reported them all delicious. The tongue was not too heavily seasoned. Son had carne asada which was spectacularly served as one large flat steak. I got chicken burrito and was quite satisfied. Much superior to what we expected to have to eat for lunch when we pulled off the highway! read more

Have you ever been in a foreign place and had the craving for fried pork rinds? What do you do? Why, yelp it of course! Such was my dilemma. On the road, in the middle of Oregon, and craving pork rinds. My hopes were not high... Well, I went through the motions and a few places showed up which did not look promising. Then this place showed up with it's solitary, non-elite, 5 star review, and we all know what that means, but I figured we should give it a try anyway, since we were close. When we pulled in the parking lot, My hopes were dashed even more. My family wouldn't even get out of the car, and told me to leave the car running while I went inside (Yes, they really did!) Such was the vote of confidence, and all I could think was "Yelp, don't fail me now..." So, I went inside, and it looked like your typical Mexican market with a meat counter in the back, and I meandered back there and waited while the gentleman helped the woman in front of me. The counter had all of your typical fare, al pastor, carne asada, lengua, etc., but at the very far end there were chicharrones. I did a double take. Not only were they there, but they looked freshly made. A smile came across my face, then I noticed right next to them were these things called chicharrones con carne. "Huh, what is this?," I thought to myself, "I've never heard of such a thing..." Then there, on a little sign written in English, it said "fried pork skin with pork belly" "Whoa!" I thought. "Two of my favorite things together! And fried no less!" It's hard to describe the feeling that came over me in anticipation of this impending delicacy... Well, to cut to the chase. They totally delivered!! My family tried some as we were driving away, and wanted me to turn around and get some more. I told them we couldn't because we had to go get some gas, because they MADE me leave the car running! LOL! It is now on our list every time we roll through the area. :-) Give it a try! You know it's good when you're basically the only white girl amongst about 20 Mexican guys all eating or ordering lunch during their work break. This place is authentic Mexican food and feels like you're in Mexico. Small, crowded, busy, but so delicious! I eat here at least once a week, sometimes more. Best place I've found in Albany or Salem to eat real Mexican food. Friendly staff, but don't expect much English to be spoken to you. Just go and eat and have a real Mexican experience. I am informed that birria de chivo is served on Sundays and barbacoa de borrego is served all weekend.

Chicken was basically jerky. Nothing had much flavor. Ladies behind the counter were treating me like an idiot because I don't speak much Spanish. I could handle that if the food was at least good. read more

Love this place. Not sure why Chuck B's review doesn't show up on the page, but it is there... somewhere? Can't believe there is only one review and it is filed just as a "meat market". I guess I know the reason: the restaurant is in the BACK and not obvious if you are passing by on the street. This is the best Mexican food I've had in either Corvallis or Albany. They often have a roaster and table out front during the warm parts of the year, and stupid me, I was just never hungry when passing by. I should have just gotten some to go and eaten later. That won't happen this summer...there will be NO passing by. It's that good. Only had the tacos, but how else do you judge autentica if not by tacos? They were both excellent. Clean. Friendly service, VERY authentic place. They don't even have a menu with prices, it's so simple. Just pictures of burritos, tacos, etc. and then a list of meats. But don't worry, it's cheap. Not reviewing its quality as a market, as I only went to the back restaurant, but it seemed to have the usual assortment of Mexican snacks, treats, and accessories. is there an option for six stars yet??? this place is a portal to Mexico, in Albany, Oregon! I've already been 3 or 4 times, and the quality has been consistent. If you wanna eat real tacos, with traditional mexican meat filling, then this is the place for you. And they don't have just tacos, but also tortas, huaraches, burritos... My favorite is for sure the taco de lengua, and don't be scared by the fact that it's tongue, it's freaking delicious! I have to go back over the weekend to try their menudo! read more

This is an awesome spot for lunch, takeout or dinner. When in Hillsboro I always come here for lunch and usually I get either $3 in carnitas and $3 in rice or I get $2 carnitas and a fresh roll. For me it's plenty! Salsa bar is fabulous and flavorful even if I don't agree that their spiciest is all that spicy. read more

This is a hidden gem in Albany. The restaurant is in the back of the store and has sone delicious tacos. My wife was extremely bummed they were out of chicken, but the beef and marinated pork was delicious. Also, we grabbed some cooked lamb from the meat counter and it is some of the best we have had. The only real Mexican taqueria in Albany or Corvallis. It is just a wonderful place with real Mexican food. On weekends they make carnitas, and it's tasty and melts in your moist tender. The have a nice butcher shop and market there too. read more

Welcoming and helpful is how I would describe my impression of the people who work there. The meat counter is great and prices are too. If you don't see a cut you want, ask and they will come through, although you might have to come back later. That's because everything so fresh and they might have to custom cut it for you on the next delivery. Small fresh vegetable section but special in it's selection. Then, stop at the taqueria next door. Wow. Intimidating in that some items can't be had for love or money anywhere else. For a couple of bucks, try something new or one of your familiar favorites. It's all good. My first samples were cabeza and alpastor tacos. Mighty fine they were. Grilled onions and Jalapeno (hot) on the side . And served up with pride. Will stop by any time I'm in the area. All my meats are going to be bought here. Much better than old, stale, factory foods at grocery stores. Everybody is bilingual and helpful. read more
