The food is alright. I the double steak enchilada plate and it was mediocre. The steak was underseasoned, a tad bit overcooked, and the rice a little bland. The chips and salsa were good and I also asked for beans along with the chips, because it's usually a good combination. But not here. Beans were... depressing. I had a regular asada burrito. The person who took my order was friendly and attentive. There's a plethora of imported latin american goods such as chips and candy that can only be found in few places in Albany. Authentic is written on the walls as you walk in and the ambiance of the restaurant certainly feels like a traditional Mexican restaurant. The most mediocre Mexican meal I can ever remember having. The chips I think are deep-fried tortillas; store-bought are far superior, and the two accompanying salsas were tasteless. The protocols are not clear to first-time customers. The cashier's station says "place orders here" but if you seat yourself you will be brought menus and have the attention of a waitress. Noise level is NOT average; the acoustics and atmosphere are that of a warehouse. Very nice staff. The Two Rivers mini-mall is an interesting concept and overall I hope it makes it. Senior-friendly, OK for regulars who have perfected their menu preferences and who support the businesses in Old Town, as I (ideally) wish to do. This place was just alright to me. Pretty mediocre. I ordered a chili rellenos which came with a side of rice and beans, and ordered an al pastor taco on the side as well. In total, I spent around $11 or so which seemed kind of high for the amount and quality of the food that I was served. The pepper, while deep fried, tasted very soft and doughy. It was not crisp at all. It was hard to cut and the cheese on the inside was very watered down by the pepper. This item was hard to eat. The al pastor taco was alright. The meat was all minced up and did not have much flavor to it. While the taco was good, I have definitely had better. I would personally rather go to the Rigoberto's near by. Not a huge fan of Taqueria Alonzo. I had good service here but overall the food quality was not satisfying for me and I know I can find better Mexican food. read more

Upon our server arriving at our table, I asked if the food was fresh. She answered "yes". We were delighted and excited for our food to be brought to us. My dad ordered the chili relleno and tamale dinner and I ordered steak enchiladas. It was terrible. Dads food had been frozen and then microwaved be fore it was brought to the table. It was so damn hot that it burned his mouth. The seeds were not removed which caused it to be extremely spicy. The steak in my enchiladas was tiny and hard. I'm so very disappointed. I judge mexican food on their tacos, salsas, juices and flan. I eat here when I am looking for something easy and quick. I go perhaps 20 times a year. This place screams FRESH! This place rocks it out. They are fast, clean, flavorful, with a huge menu. There are specials on the weekend like octopus cocktail, etc. But the tacos are great. I recommend the carnitas. Simple little taco on a double corn tortilla, fried port and with fresh pico de gallo on top, just like you would get south of the border, I have lived there. They always start with chips and salsa for everyone with fresh salsa. Chips are warm and crisp. Authentic. Friends give the burritos a thumbs up. THey are big. The flan is made by them and yummy. They usually have orchata and hibiscus juice. Also a good selection of Jarritos sodas and mexican beers. The dining room is big and setup for groups. They do take out and I have ordered for groups as large as 20 for takeout. They sent me home with a whole flan in their pan which I later returned. They are chill like that. My husband loves this place. It's very authentic Mexican food. You can get Mexican beer here as well and not the usual that you see everywhere. The blackberry margarita is a nice twist on an Oregon/Mexican beverage. I have enjoyed Mexican food in a lot of American locations known for good Mexican food (such as Southern California) and been to A LOT of different restaurants. I am by no means an expert on food, but I do take tacos quite seriously and I have to say, Taqueria Alonzo is one of my favorites. The portions are huge and the staff is friendly, warm, and welcoming. Some of the servers have seen our kids grow up! The food is also consistent.
