It's nothing fancy, but for a Mexican restaurant, the food is great and very inexpensive. The salsa verde is the best I've had, and everything I've tried is always delicious and piping hot. I'm dropping them from 4 to 3 stars due to issues with the service. On my most recent visit the service was somewhat lacking. The server disappeared for a long time and we had to look for her in order to place our order. It was also the second time they had served fajitas to me while failing to give me the tortillas. First time ever to a Mexican joint where they played bachata music non stop and the last time I checked that was not Mexican. Okay, fine, not the end of the world. Ordered some queso and it was so watery it was disgusting! I sent it back! I ordered a shrimp chimichanga and it was the worse chimichanga ever in life. I am sad to give this place less than five stars. The food was decent and the prices were great. The service was pretty good, for a busy night, BUT there was one big issue. My food came out at least 20 minutes after everyone else's. They had all finished eating and were ordering desert. At that point you would think they would offer to comp the meal without prompting, but not only did they not offer or apologize, but when I asked if it was possible, they said "no, because you ate some of the food so we aren't going to comp it". I asked if there was anything at all they could do, even short of a full comp, but still the answer is no because I ate some of the food. Like yeah, I ate it because I'm starving because I waited an extra 20 minutes and had to sit there awkwardly while everyone else ate, then rush to finish because everyone else is done. The point wasn't that the food was bad, but that the experience was ruined. For that, I go from satisfied, to kind of upset. Literally any kind of acknowledgment would have made it better, but no... This place is one of my standards for a Mexican restaurant in Memphis. The food is solid and dependable, and the service is good. I just came back in town for New Years, and I wanted to rehash some good times with going their on a date. I recommend trying to get a booth over a table, if you can swing it. Very clean establishment, wait staff is prompt and courteous, lots of options on the menu, quality ingredients, and very reasonably priced. Only drawback is that the location on Madison has a very slick floor. Wear shoes with rubber soles unless you enjoy ice skating...which I do. BEST MEXICAN CUISINE IN MIDTOWN & MEMPHIS. Hands down. This blows Las D, El Toro, and others nearby out of the water. And that's saying something because I always used to go to Las Delicias. Then my Latino friend told me about this place. Wow. Only Mexican restaurant I will spend my money at now. My boyfriend and I frequent here, and I even had my 21st birthday here (they gave me a free shot! Wow!) and spent Valentine's Day here (I was almost crying when they brought a rose to me at the end of service). Time and time again they impress with their food, service, and ambience. GET THE TACOS. Authentic taco truck quality. I almost always just get the tacos when I go. My boyfriend loves the complimentary green sauce! In addition to the queso (which is very good, not watered down at all), the guacamole (zesty and delicious), and their top shelf margaritas are NO JOKE. They don't skimp on alcohol at all. They have a great variety of drinks and margaritas. We've have many different servers here-I know one was Angelica, who is amazing!- and they are all so service oriented and willing to help. Finally... a place worth eating Mexican in Memphis. Having just moved here from Texas, the "Mexican" fare that is offered in this city is generally atrocious. I've been to sooo many "Mexican" restaurants & taco/burrito trucks. It's been tough. Then there is Los Cómales, a haven amongst imposters. Fresh fajitas, horchata, and flavorful Margaritas that get it done right the first time. Chips are fresh, salsa is on point. The staff. My god. The amazing staff. I really could go on & on. Being born in Texas & being of Mexican descent, I had no idea that Mexican cuisine could go so wrong. Los Cómales is the only place I where I can dine on beans & rice that remind me of grandma. It's truly authentic. I haven't visited their other locations yet, but will update when I do. read more

I am so happy this place came to midtown. Everything I have had here has been consistently solid, so I keep coming back. I fancy myself to be a nachos fajitas expert and these may be the best I have had yet. They use a different sturdier type of chip and melt the cheese instead of just dumping cheese dip on top. I would suggest getting them with all 3 meats, it's worth the extra dollar. I would also note that all of their shrimp dishes are delicious--they don't skimp and the shrimps are huge.
