    Honduran Tacos
    Hoa N.

You know an establishment is authentic when the entire menu is not in English. I highly recommend this local business because the portion sizes are huge for the price that you pay. The Honduran tacos were SOOO GOOD and BIG!!! The pickled onions paired the sauce is *chefs kiss* and I will definitely be coming back here to get them again. My friend recommended their Baleada and it was so big and filled. I just wished it was more than just egg, guacamole, and chicken as I prefer more savory foods. I put my own hot sauce on it which gave it more OOMPH I wanted to try their soup, but it's only available on Sundays I believe. I will be back here again for sure and recommend it to others!

The best tacos in Baton Rouge!!

Latin food here is the best in Baton Rouge land!! If you have never had Honduran food, you have clearly missed out. Do you live in Baton Rouge and love Latin food? You will love this place because they have some of the best food in town. The family here cooks everything with love and so much incredible flavors. I also love all of the fresh ingredients they use... crunch cabbage, juicy tomatoes and zesty onions. My favorite dishes here are tacos (Honduran & Mexican), catrachas, Honduran enchiladas and their pupusas. EVERYTHING here is made-to-order, which means complete freshness. All the vegetables that I have ever had on food there was freshly chopped, topped and served. Their business hours are quite accommodating for the community. I'll be back time and time again and the family is very near and dear to me. If you have never had traditional Honduran food, you'll love trying it here!

Chicken Empanadas...THEY'LL CHANGE YO' LIIFE!! DE-LI-CIOUS!!!

The chicken empanadas will CHANGE YO' LIIIFE!! These things are DE-LI-CIOUS!!! Not to mention, they are HUGE! They're made to order, so they're hot and fresh when you get them. They also come with a "slaw"(that's not what it is but that's what it reminds me of), which is tasty. Now, don't let the appearance of the place deter you. It's not fancy at all. Actually, you'd probably pass right by the place if you're not really looking for it. The owners and staff were very friendly and the interior was cool and colorful. I'm so glad that this place was recommended to me. I'll be visiting again soon.

I had so many plans after lunch, but after this amazing food, I feel a food coma coming on. My Honduran friend suggested this place because the food is authentic. The food tastes just like the food an abuela would make. I'm a big fan of baleadas, and this baleada did NOT disappoint. It is full of flavor. The meat is very seasoned. The egg and avocado balanced out all of the flavor in the meat. Although they don't have the pupusas on the menu, they do serve them. Unfortunately, they don't have the chicharrón con queso pupusas, but they do have chicken, carne asada, and bean pupusas. I've you haven't had a chance to try a pupusa, come here and try them out. They are absolutely delish!

Enchiladas with slaw and pickled onions

Gotta love Honduran food. This sweet little family owned spot takes the time to make everything from scratch so when you take it home it's fresh and piping hot! I highly recommend ANY baleada you can get your hands on, the beef empanada (a crispy fried treat stuffed with ground beef), and a ground beef pastelito. The cheese pupusas are always a good option as well! The slaw served with it is fantastic - vinegar based with radishes and a feta type cheese on top. Each entree is also served with delicious pickled onions. My suggestion is to come hungry and make sure you have a delicious horchata or topo Chico to wash it all down!

    Chicken empanadas to go order

Los Alvarez is a hole in the wall place, connected to a sketchy gas station, but the food is worth coming for. I came at around 8pm to eat so that could add to the reason why I thought it was sketch. Once you get past the outside appearance, you will absolutely enjoy the food and atmosphere inside. The staff is very friendly and the food comes out in no matter of time. We even got a complimentary bread with maybe a blue cheese inside? I don't like the taste of blue cheese, but my boyfriend enjoyed it! The chicken empanadas (or ground beef) are a must if you are unsure what to get! If you like plantains, the Maduros is also great. However I don't think it really goes well with the sour cream and beans they serve it with. The Tripleta Catracha is a huge entree of chicken, steak, & pork chop. My only complaint was that the steak was very chewy. If you like chicken w/ melted cheese I recommend getting the 2 Granadas Catrachas. One of my favorites, but simple option on the menu is the Baleada con Carne, which is a large breakfast taco that you can get during dinner time as well.

Fast, friendly service and amazing food. If you've never had Honduran food, try everything ok! Just try everything & get some extra plantains while you're at it. I think it's definitely a hidden gem. Prices were low considering the portion sizes. My family was full and satisfied! I had tacos and carne asada con tajada the first, ate it so fast I didn't even get a picture! This time I had empanadas, pastelitos & baleada con carne which were all ridiculously good!!! I absolutely love the pickled vegetables that come with some plates. You know they're back there cooking with love when its still hot & flavorful after you get home. *chef's kiss*

If you are looking for authentic Honduran flavor Los Alvarez Exxpress Latin Food, will be the place to go... The hospitality and staff will make you feel at home.. Family of four generations continuing with the "Catracho" flavor...The food is delicious...I will eat here every day.. Thank you for your service.

The carne asada. There are more plantains under the pile soaking up all those great flavors

I can't!!!! I cannot express how good my lunch today was! I may have found my new, off day, lunch spot. I am sitting in my car picking the plantains out of my Togo box, and I just left out. I did not want to stop eating. I ordered, the carne asada. Let's start with how affordable it is. I had lunch for 20$ with the drink and tip included. (I am an over tipper. My bill was 12.10, I think). The service was fine. It's not full service, but someone comes takes your order and brings your food. Back to the food! I cannot wait to come at night, so I can recklessly consume a little bit of everything.

I was introduced to this place thanks to a Yelp event organized by Rebecca, our CM! I would have never thought to come to a restaurant that is directly connected to a gas station but here I am. I love it. I've tried a variety of dishes here with my family and they were all so good. The portions are large and the service is pleasant. The ground beef with fried plantains was delicious. It was a bit heavy and the pickled cabbage added a nice touch. I even tried the Honduran tacos, similar to flautas. It was so crispy and hot. The stewed chicken with the pickled cabbage was fantastic together. I recommend this place to all my friends that want to try authentic Honduran food since it's so good and cheap! I literally leave stuffed and happy.

Friendly staff and services. First time trying this place. Definitely will like try it again. It's hidden beside a gas station, it easy to miss if your not aware it is there. They have good drinks

    4 enchilladas
    Christina D.

I've had their food on a few occasions and it's always been very good! This particular day, I dined inside the restaurant with a friend. It's seat yourself type of place and someone will come by and take your order. I was craving something crunchy, so I got the 4 enchilladas. The flavor was really good and the portion sizes HUGE. My only gripe is that the crispy tortillas were sitting in a pool full of liquid (I'm assuming the liquid from the pickled veggies) so I had to eat quickly as to not let them sog up and it just made for a mess. Other than that, the food is so good and so authentic you can really tell it's made in house and fresh. I would definitely come back for authentic food worth the price.

I came to Los Alvarez initially for a Yelp event and they treated us as if we came for a family dinner in Honduras. These pix are actually from the second time I came bc I talked them up so much to my husband, he wanted to try it out. Even the sexond time around, I felt they were so patient with our order and made honest suggestions. They didn't mind our questions and you can tell the food is authentic. So good, I really appreciated the work they put into our meal.

$18 for 4 street tacos? Nah, that's too much for what you get. The place is nice, and the tacos tasted good, but $4 a taco is absurd

We stumbled upon Taquería El Viejón in front of the Latinos Supermarket on Florida Blvd and there were already a handful of people there waiting for their food. This was an obvious sign that this place was good, so we pulled up and checked out the menu a bit before walking up to place our order. The older gentleman that took our order didn't understand English too well, so try your best to order in Spanish or use your phone to attempt translation. He was very nice and patient and did his best to work through the language barrier. What immediately caught our attention was the advertisement of tacos de lenguas (beef tongue) and tripas (tripe)! You know it's legit when they serve those two proteins. I highly recommend this spot! The owners are friendly and hardworking and the food is delicious. It was pretty busy around the time we came (7pm) and the food took about 20 min, but no complaints as they are working from a confined space and juggling call in orders as well as walk up orders. Their tortillas were fresh, the beef tongue was so flavorful, tender, and juicy, and the HOT SALSA was on another level! It gave me that booty hole burning spice and that's exactly what I want!!! We noticed some people ordering something that comes in a chip bag so we might try that next along with the quesabirria. One thing I wish they had was homemade guacamole, because I looove topping my tacos with it!

It may pass itself off as a taco truck, but like many of the Latin businesses in the city, it's really a Honduran one. My first time coming here was a tough one. It was late afternoon and their platters had sold out for the day but they had still had number of meats (chorizo, barbacoa, chicharron) available for tacos. The subsequent result was an unmemorable output of tacos that I wouldn't care to get again. No salsas, limes, and additional condiments could save the meal. As always, shoot for their Honduran specialties. However, their platos tipicos plates are the real true sell. The early morning / lunch crowds will enjoy their carne asada plate, which is often paired with their rice and beans with a little cabbage salad topped with chimol. If not, the baleadas are usually a safe bet. I prefer mine "con todo" with eggs, meat, chicken, sausage, cheese, beans, and crema. There is no set schedule that I've been able to find in the last few years. They will appear and sometimes not be there at all. Social media has been sparse and like many trucks, the prices aren't listed on the menu. The service has been lukewarm at best and I would recommend going the takeout / eat in car route since the outdoor seating provided is limited and not weather proof. ___________ (#1) https://www.yelp.com/biz/dorothys-soul-food-kitchen-baton-rouge My photos: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/antojitos-express-baton-rouge?userid=ysCBsXWPB-LAiewVS3jZfQ
