    Hands down, this place served the best tamales and tostadas I've ever had (in my own opinion)! The baledas and pupusas were also awesome and not to be underestimated!     La Salvadorena brings authentic El Salvadorian cuisine to Baton Rouge! It's conveniently located on Nicholson Drive just north of the North Gates of LSU. The restaurant itself is open, bright, and colorful. It's one of those local, family-run, ethnic places that you know has to be the real deal. So, what is El Salvadorian cuisine? I'm still working on figuring that out (and it's a tasty process). It is in some ways similar to Mexican and Caribbean fare, but with some tasty differences. Many dishes are topped with shredded cabbage, crumbles of cheese, and special sauces. There are also enchiladas, pupusas and other delicacies to try. Desert includes my favorite, the flan! This caramel custard is a excellent ending for a magnificent meal. So, go try out El Salvadorina, and expand your culinary horizons. It's deliciously different, and easy on the budget.

    Ordered steak street tacos. The meat or salsa was spoiled. Now I'm vomiting nonstop. I suggest you smell the salsa and meat before eating. I won't be recommending this place.

    We got the pupusas, tostadas, banana wrapped tamales, and a gigantic baleada. The pupusas were my favorite and I'll stop here just to grab one as a snack. We got the chicharron and calabaza. Pro tip, add some slaw and hot sauce to make a little pupusa taco The tostadas were so fresh and crunchy. I love the slaw so much. The tamales were so flavorful and the baleada was the size of a newborn baby. Everything was so delicious and fresh and they are open for breakfast! I'll definitely be back soon.

    Finally stopped in after driving past here a million times. Right by LSU, I wouldn't say it's the most beautiful of restaurants (on the inside or outside), but we walked into an empty restaurant and our hostess was very nice. HOWEVER she never wore a mask, not when we walked in and went up to the counter, not when she came to us to take orders, not when she brought out our food, not when she checked back on us, not when I went back up to pay. I understand her not wearing one if there are no customers but I would expect her to wear one when someone walks in (I'll also add a few other customers came in to pick up To Go orders and Waitr deliveries as well. Food was okay but not great. $3 pupusas were tasty, but the flautas tasted very similar to something you could buy at the frozen section and heat up at home. Would be willing to try again if it weren't for the the pandemic and lack of precautions.

    I was so excited to try this hole-in-the-wall restaurant because I had read so many good reviews of this place, and it did not disappoint. Salvadorian food isn't as common, so I wasn't sure what to expect. But I ordered the carne asada taco on a soft flour shell and a chicharron con queso pupusa, and both were great decisions. I had heard that they were known for their pupusas, but it wasn't until I tasted it that I understood what all the rave was about. It was heaven. The outside dough was soft, but the inside was filled with the perfect blend of pork and cheese. At $2.50 each, I should have ordered more. It was honestly the best thing I've ever tasted. The carne asada taco was also very good. The steak wasn't chewy, but rather tender and juicy. The tomatoes were fresh and a good contrast to all the different salty flavors of everything else. The two sauces on the table (red and green) were also a great additional burst of flavor when added to the food. My bill came out to $5, which is quite a steal for such high-quality authentic foods. My friend ordered the ceviche tostadas, which I also took a bite of, and that was mind-blowing as well. I loved the acidity of the sauce to complement the shrimp and the avocado. Overall, the food really impressed me, the service was good, and the place was spacious enough to accommodate our group of 12.

    I'm hesitant to review this place because it's my favorite hidden gem of Baton Rouge (and I wanna keep it from getting too busy) but it seems everyone is finding out about this great Salvadorian restaurant! First, know the sauces on the table are a MUST! The green sauce and red sauce definitely bring out the flavor of whatever you order, even on their cabbage slaw! Their fried chicken, with these sauces applied, may be the best fried chicken in Baton Rouge! Second, the popusas! Oh man the pupusas! The shrimp pupusa is my favorite but you've got to try them all! Third, take your time at this authentic establishment. When the restaurant gets busy your order may take 10-15 minutes (longer if with a group) so if your lunch break can't accommodate that you may need to save La Salvadorena as a dinner date. But man, the food is totes worth it!

    Really authentic food and friendly service. Papusa was freshly made filled with cheese and shrmp. The taquitos were also made to order topped with crema cabbage and 8 to an order slot of food made to order and perfectly prepared. The beledas a home made flour tortilla ith black beans and eggs simple and delicious. The food takes a while but it is all cooked to order. Worth the wait

    Found this place today on Yelp. So glad I did. I had the fajita steak taco, chicharone Pupusas and beef taco. Everything was delicious.

    Tortillas are hard and not made from scratch. Tamales don't have flavor. chicken quesadillas are just ok. Carne asada is tough cheap meat.

It's located in a small building on the eastern portion of Florida Blvd., east of the Hi Neighbor Supermarket. They have takeout, but there is also an adequate amount of seating so one can comfortably eat in. The menu explains each dish to the uninitiated, and there are some great combination plates. However, you could also order an appetizer and a side or two to make your own combination or to try different things. A couple of papusas and a side might make a nice option. Don't forget the authentic drinks while you are at it. There's several types of sodas you should check out. I had my first banana flavored Honduran soda last time I stopped in, it's was deliciously different!
