Easy on spices - ordered a Baleada - basically a giant burrito without the rice and loosely rather than tightly bound. Their melon agua was homemade, as well as all the food. The 3 of us each ordered a different entree and all of agreed that each dish was tasty and generous. I wasn't expecting much when I saw the empty parking lot and the appearance of a super market awaiting me. But the bright decorations of the dining room and friendliness of the staff including the guy who took our orders and answered all our questions about items I was unfamiliar with, made us feel right at home. Only issue was an extended time of noise when a kitchen appliance was wailing away. When I caught the eye of staff it abruptly ended. Really good and authentic Mexican food. They have a good variety of meats for there tacos, tortas and gorditas. The restaurant is inside of a small market. The spicy guacamole was delicious freshly made to order but since they called it spicyi was expecting more spice. The carna asada was great perfect chat on the meat with the creamy refried beans which were some of the best I've had. The heuvos ranchero had a spicy sauce with perfectly cooked eggs along with the same delicious beans and rice. A really good find that I didn't know was in Thibodaux. read more

Absolutely amazing flavors! Driving threw for work hit up Yelp for suggestions and thank you again Yelp community. Walking in , it's a small grocery store but hidden in the corner is an a delicious oasis. Simple menu and for a first visit just grabbed a burrito and a taco thank heavens didn't order more cause two items I was full under ten bucks. I work a lot in Texas and know good authentic Mexican flavors and wow la estrella delivers. That pastor burrito was huge , well seasoned, and no yellow cheese . (Sorry when I see yellow cheese I think Tex Mex) the Barbacoa taco not greasy , but so flavorful and not masked by cilantro and onion the rich beefy flavor was delicious. read more

I'm Honduran and I did not like the Honduran plate on their menu. No where in Honduras do we incorporate hotdog as some type of sausage. Other than that the food was good the place small. The lack of payment for struggling families is sad for the grocery part. Over priced mantequilla and semillitas. Hopefully though since it's the only authentic Spanish restaurant with a grocery That they improve. read more

The one qualm I do have is that they didn't add any lettuce to the burrito, but think that is an add on you can request (and some may prefer their burrito to be lettuce-less anyway!) They make everything fresh and have several sauces to choose from. I judge these type places by the quality of their verde salsa, and they did not disappoint. Where I once went to drink underage in my early college years, I now go to eat authentic tacos. La Estrella is a Mexican grocery and taqueria in what used to be the sports bar Bellini's. Where before there was a stage, rows of produce and snacks now stand with pinatas dangling overhead. Where loud rap used to drown out conversation, Mexican soap operas or music videos now provide the soundtrack. And where we used to order drinks, we now order tacos. These aren't the Taco Bell variety most of us grew up with, though. No crispy corn or soft flour tortillas, ground beef seasoned to death with cumin, lettuce, cheese, or other toppings best left on a hamburger; these are soft corn tortillas with your choice of grilled meats topped simply with onion and cilantro. The menu changed up every now and then when it first opened, but it seems La Estrella has settled on offering fajita, barbacoa, pollo, lengua, tripa, carnitas, rajas con queso, pastor, and chicharron. Each taco is two bucks. I haven't been to enough taquerias to judge whether or not La Estrella is all that great, but it trumps any of the Tex-Mex tacos you'll find elsewhere in Thibodaux. If you're a bit hesitant to make the leap to these tacos, I'd stick with the fajita (steak), pollo (chicken), and carnitas (pork) tacos. But if you're up for something more adventurous compared to the typical local food fare, try the lengua (tongue); it's one of those foods that most people just assume is gross by association but has a perfectly nice taste and texture. Give a try! There are several other Mexican staples on the menu at La Estrella, but I've never ventured beyond the tacos, usually ordering three or four of at least two different types and washing it down with a Jarritos fruit-flavored soda. Next time you're in the mood for Mexican food in Thibodaux, give La Estrella a try. You'll be in for a delicious surprise. read more

Having spent a substantial amount of time in Southern California, I have a very special place in my heart for taquerias and other magical Latin American goodies. La Estrella is more than just a taqueria, it is a little market that offers all the great grocery and novelty items you might need. Need a fancy belt buckle, boots, or some fun pinatas? You are covered. Stopped in for some lunch, and while the panderia items were extremely tempting, I opted for some tacos.While I CAN order in Spanish, I sound like an ass when I try, so I appreciated that at least one of the women could speak English with me. However, I never feel that this is a requisite or expectation. I ordered a steak and a chicken taco. In traditional taco style, I was served up some corn tortillas with meat, cilantro, and onions. The onions were freshly diced, as they weren't stinky or made me cry. Hooray! I added a little lime and salsa, purchased my Jarritos, and was in HEAVEN. I am jazzed to have finally made it in to La Estrella and can see myself in here on a frequent basis. read more

Sooooooo in my search for authentic Mexican food, I came across this gem on yelp. I finally made my way to this place. So when you first walk in it's got a little grocery store with all of the seasonings you need...Sazon, Adobo, Sofrito...I could go on, along with things you wouldn't find in the regular grocery store. I went over to the counter and was greeted by a nice young lady. They have a large selection of food, everything from Tamales, Tacos, and they even serve breakfast. I gave the lady my order and they started cooking it immediately. I ordered a side of chips and guacamole...a must when you get Mexican food, and 3 tacos. 2 Carne Asada, and one Pollo. Both tacos came dressed with onions and cilantro. The food was very fresh and tasty. The guacamole could have been a little more creamy. The taste was great, but it seemed like it was lacking in the avocado part. It was a very chopped guacamole. Overall I will definitely be back.
