3 solid stars. It's not the best Mexican food by any standard, but it's filling. The chips and…read moresalsa are complimentary. The chips are decent, but the tomato-based salsa is very good! There's also a mild salsa (with large chunks of onions) and black refried beans that comes with the chips. Both were decent. I ordered the chicken enchilada burrito without cheese and sour cream I added a side of rice since the burrito doesn't come with rice inside. The rice is almost certainly precooked and isn't cooked at the restaurant. It has peas and carrots in it like something in the frozen section at the grocery store. It wasn't bad, but certainly nothing to brag about. The waiter was friendly and attentive. I would come back since the food is so low cost.

The enchiladas are alright the beans are surprisingly good so is the rice. The queso blanco is actually fire. It isn't the best tex-mex food i've had but it's not the worst. If they improved the food by adding more vegetarian options and non meat salsas for the enchiladas it would be a lot better. My fiancé loved their birria tacos though.

The food is good…read more BUT.... They definitely need to learn about the timing of table service. More than once have I been there with groups when all the food came out at different times; it was bad. As in, three people were almost done eating their meals before two others got their food even brought out to the table. Most restaurants, if they have dishes that take 5 minutes to prepare and another dish that takes 10 minutes... well, they'll start on the 10 minute dish and then 5 minutes later start the 5 minute dishes, then all the food can be served at the same time so you don't have a table full of awkward people waiting on each other while food gets cold. El Tampico needs to fix this issue, then it will be much nicer to bring groups of people there. As it is, I've heard people say they don't want to go there with groups specifically because of that. I hope they fix that issue.
