This place was billed as having "the 4th best burger in the US." Nope, not by a LONG shot. Any airport Fuddruckers that I have ever been to has better burgers. In short, this is a dive bar, that has a decent burger. The fries are plentiful and good. Limited sauces. The beer menu on-line is not accurate. my group asked for two different beers that were not available and were told by the bartender, "the internet lies!" they did serve Guinness that was at the right temp, was fresh, and in a Guinness glass. The service in general was pretty bad. The place was not packed and we sat without beers and with incomplete orders. I will say that the outside sitting area in back was done REALLY well and was a great place to sit, even when raining. read more

Pretty bummed with my experience here. I had very high hopes with the Tavern burger after hearing so many great things. The burger is basically an upscale dick's burger but for 3x the price. It had good flavor but it's so small! I ended up paying $10 for the small burger including the 20% tip because that's the lowest amount to start with even though I got the burger to go. I've been avoiding this place for years. The neighborhood isn't what I would call desirable and the general vibe just wasn't attractive. South Park is trying hard to be trendy, but I just don't see it happening. This place was busy and based on what I read, it doesn't appear service is their forte. Rather than bore you with these details I say this. The burger was decent, but far from life changing. It reminded me of Dicks, except far more expensive. Fries were good and the portion was generous, but I noticed I was charged $1 for their secret sauce. Sorry, condiments should be free and if you can have all the ketchup and mustard you want on a Costco hotdog for $1.50, you can give me 2oz of your silly sauce, which by the way the secret was it's not that good. In the end, I'm not impressed and not coming back. I've had many burgers far better and everyone here appeared to be here for the sole purpose of appearing hip and it was a major turn off. This place has been on my list ever since the burger was featured on that list a few years back. Finally made it down and didn't even order the burger the first time because someone else had the fish 'n' chips and they looked too good to pass up. Perfectly coated and fried, with fries that actually taste like potato and aren't drowning in salt. Everything was tasty and the staff was friendly. Nice little hole-in-the-wall/dive feel, which is perfect. The next time, I did get the burger and--while I don't know about best in the country--it's a solid and flavorful offering. This dive bar had a good cozy atmosphere. The bar area was narrow and dark with loud music. The back area was outdoor seating under a lightly shaded area. It was also a smoking area. We found a good size table that accommodated all 8 of us. It was nice sitting under the heaters especially because it wasn't raining. The servers were friendly. I ordered the deluxe burger and fries. The food is amazing! It was so good that I forgot to take pictures! I ordered the tavern burger and Irish nachos. The burger was delicious and the Irish nachos are fries topped with sour cream, green onions, cheese, and bacon. The workers were all nice and we got our food fast. OK, hands down one of the best burgers in Seattle. The meat was tender and juicy and the bun was soft. It was the perfect size for my small mouth. We paid $11 for a double patty Tavern Burger. Don't want to drive down to South Park? You can get the SAME burger at their sister restaurant at Star Brass Works in Georgetown. It's the same price but much closer to downtown. My husband and I frequented Loretta's in 2017-2019, often stopping in for ice cold beers and one (or two) of their incredible burgers. He would get the regular burger, I got the veggie burger. We have told all of our friends to come here for years, so it was pretty embarrassing to return recently (2022) and find that the food has gone downhill. Our burgers were flavorless, served on barely-toasted potato buns, topped what tasted like Kraft Singles. Hard pass. Loretta's is open! I am not sure how much more praise I can sing for my favorite South Park location. I am only sorry I didn't go sooner and support them earlier. As of this review the restrictions are still in play so no dining inside. All the tables are blocked. The bar now sports an impressive plexiglass barrier that is high and wraps around the entire bar. It also looks rather nice - very professional looking. Loretta's always had an impressive outdoor dining section and none of the seats were ever that close anyhow. It is open currently and was very busy when I went there. As the night wore on tables vacated but I was happy to see them so busy. There is no heating so be prepared to dress accordingly. Loretta's food is still wonderful. Tasty, tasty. Their tavern burger is amazing but I am particularly fond of their salmon because they don't skimp on the fillet and it's a full fillet and not chopped up salmon with fillet which I have seen some restaurants create. Not here! Big ole fillet and always so fantastically cooked. The drinks are forever stiff. Even in these hard times Loretta's ensures that everyone is taken care of. The staff are wonderful. They are engaging and personable. We ordered a burger to go for our one friend and they wrote a little message on the bag that made him grin. This place is always a great meeting place! The burgers are on point and the Irish nachos are great to share. The setting has outdoor and indoor seating including a fireplace outside on the patio. The indoor includes a bar and booths that are fairly private with blockades in between up to the ceiling as well as some larger tables near the back. There is a small parking area in the back. Services is always quick and efficient. They work fast and usually have a lot of people to deal with but it never feels like you have to wait too long. I have to upgrade this place to a 4. The first time I came here, I thought it was just okay. But after a few other visits, I think their tavern burgers are just that damn good. Something so simple, so basic, yet done so perfectly. It's a a basic cheeseburger that's charred well, balanced with just the right amount of everything, and it doesn't become a wet sopping mess in your hands. Also, their fries are really good too. Inside, you'll see that it's pretty tight inside. Low ceilings, wooden everything... and outdoor seating in the back. There are certain things on this earth I really love: my kids, camping, and a stunning sunset to name a few. And somewhere on that list is my love and appreciation for a good dive bar. Which is why I was more than thrilled to have found Loretta's just down the street from my Seattle crash pad. It was late at night on a Friday and I was hungry. Searching Yelp for something (ANYTHING!) that was open at that hour *and* offering food I happily located this South Park landmark and sauntered in through the back door. Pro tip: there's free parking in back! The back of this legendary establishment is part beer garden, part trailer park as they've actually managed to haul a large Airstream into the place to give it character. Super cool! It was cold out there, though, so I eagerly made my way inside. Darkly lit and full of various characters (from hipster to redneck to Yelp Ambassador), Loretta's offers a full bar, an incredible selection of taps, and a full late night menu with everything from a cup o' chili for $3 to their legendary bar steak (WITH baked potato) for $15. On the first night I was there I opted for their famous $5 tavern burger with a side o' chili. Accompanied by a cold local pale ale it definitely hit the spot after a long day. A week or so later I found myself at Loretta's again, this time grabbing a bowl of chili and a side salad. I was mighty impressed at the freshness of the salad. This is not your typical tavern food! Did I mention I went back the following night? Met a friend there and finally tried their bar steak. Okay, maybe it was a little more than I shoulda spent on a late night snack but WOW was it delicious. Perfectly cooked to order and served with a massive, fully loaded baker. I couldn't even finish it. So, folks, believe the hype. This place is a legend in its own right. You may not find yourself in this part of town often (if ever).
