I actually found this place thanks to my yelp app on my phone, I was walking around downtown with my laptop trying to find a coffee shop or any place with Wi-Fi, since Lorca was close and had great reviews, I decided to give it a try. It's hard not to smile as soon as you walk into Lorca. The smells of coffee, chocolate and sweet, crispy churros...the bright colors and unique decor...and the very genuine happy demeanor of the owner and workers there welcome you. I was hooked my first time there. It's small and cozy and it will take some time to get your order, but it's all worth it. You can watch most things being made and the pour over coffee is a unique experience to see in a restaurant setting and you can ensure the quality of what you're about to drink. The coffee is delicious...I've had the cortado each time and my husband has had the mocha. The churros have a nice crispy outside and are soft inside. We've tried the Mexican chocolate sauce which is great...but the dulce de leche dipping sauce is delicious. When no one was looking I drank the rest out of the cup--I'll even do it when people ARE looking next time. They are typically closed on Sundays but I recently saw a sign that they will now be open on Sundays! They close at 7 pm during the week which is a little tough for locals to go after dinner, but we get our fix on Saturday afternoons. Stop in for something different. Finally got to check this place out. Lorca is high up on my list so I came here on my first day in Stamford. I walked into the shop at about 3:30pm on Sunday and the place was FULL house. I was taken back when I opened the door and saw how super small this place really is. It probably seats about 10-12 people max. There was barely space for people to even stand.. and it baffled me how ignorant people could be toward others. This place definitely is NOT suitable for working or hanging around for hours, come on, people.. (well at least not during rush hour with all the weekend crowds?) But thankfully I'm not the type of person who hesitate asking "does your stack of papers need to sit on its own chair?" or "do your butt really need two chairs to sit on?" so yes I was able to get myself a seat. The counter where you place your order displays many variation of pastries, like chia truffles, alfajores, st james cake and orange olive oil cake, which people swear by them. But I ordered the most relevant to me: Nutella Latte and churros. 3 churros for $4.95, 6 for $6.25 and 10 for $7.50 btw. The dipping sauce options are dulce de leche, nutella, dark chocolate and mexican chocolate. Upon the staff's recommendation I got the dulce de leche and 3 churros. The churro is big and filling and it's freshly made to order, it has that crunch when you bite into it. I also like that their dipping sauce isn't overly sweet but somehow lack of flavors and it's a bit too runny for my preference, but yes it has the right amount of sweetness -- this also goes for their Nutella Latte, not that sweet. However it doesn't taste like nutella, more like hazelnutty cocoa-ish tasting. By the way, their cup is actually larger than it looks from the pictures. I was only there for 15mins top. Ordered my shit, got my shit, took quick snap of said shit and finished them so I could immediately clear up for those still waiting to sit down. On my second visit on a weekday at 5pm the place had more empty tables but there was this lady who brought her baby and the ginormous stroller was parked next to the door and blocking people's way. That's how small the place is.. and yes she was fully aware of it and looked a tad apologetic but didn't do anything about it. Anyway this time, we got another set of churros but with 2 dipping sauces: mexican chocolate and nutella. He got iced vanilla latte and I ordered the London Fog (Earl Grey, Lavender and milk). The drinks are really good, though many people ordered the cortado. You can taste the strong lavender in the London Fog. Of all 3 dipping sauces I've tried, I still like nutella the best. Also, I noticed that this time the dipping sauces came in tiny ceramic cups instead of the disposable plastic cup that I got on my first visit there. My only gripe is that they are pretty understaffed and there isn't a designated area for dirty dishes for customers to place their cups or plates when they're done. And during rush hour, the dirty dishes sitting on an empty table is just unsightly and an issue for new customers who wish to get a seat. What a waste of time. I tried to order a single shot latte and was told that this is not possible because they refused to only pour half of a double shot into my drink. I asked if it was possible for them to pour half down the drain or into a separate cup and this was also "not an option." Considering a coffee paying customer is willing to pay $5 on average for a drink, this seems absolutely ridiculous that 2 different baristas would be unwilling to pour half of a double shot into a separate cup/drain/whatever to make a reasonable request. I will also add that the baristas were not helpful nor friendly when trying to explain their policy to me. I should also add that I work remotely and am a frequent user of cafes around the US and this is *literally* the first time I've ever had a barista flat out refuse to make a single shot latte. First impression when I walked in ... wow .. this is the type of coffee shop I want in Stamford! It is small, simple, clean, cozy, and cute. I had iced coffee and churros with Mexican chocolate dipping sauce. Churros were crispy and soft on the inside They were just a great combo with the iced coffee. The coffee was good, but my pour over took like 20 minutes and i had to wait for other people's drinks that were made before mine that came in after me. When I travel to new places I like supporting locally owned coffee shops so I decided to check this place out and maybe get some work done. It was very packed, which I should have expected since it was a Sunday morning and the place is fairly small. I was planning on buying a pastry and latte, and then stay to do some work on my laptop. I ordered a London Fog Tea Latte which is the only reason they get 4 stars. It was delicious! I assume the food is good since so many people were there, but I did not try it myself. There was a sign posted at the register with the wifi password and a disclaimer saying wifi only on weekdays which further hindered my plans. The lady at the register seemed nice, but assumed I was to-go as well, so that finalized my decision to not purchase anything else and leave. I understand the place was busy, and the employees were stressed trying to accommodate everyone but I just did not feel welcomed or comfortable. Since the library was closed, I ended up Starbucks to get my work done. If you're planning using the wifi and laptop, I suggest a different place, especially on the weekends. read more

Lorca has gone from being a 5-star coffee shop to a 2-star coffee shop due to declining service over the years. The coffee is delicious and offers something very unique to the area, the churros are delicious (that is when they're not swimming in oil) and the food is spectacular. If you saw my previous review of Lorca you'd know that I was lover of Lorca for about 5 years. In that 5 years I have seen the service decline to something akin to disgruntled fast food employees. When Lorca first opened the service was off the charts amazing. The baristas were kind, friendly and helpful. I always felt welcome when I walked through the doors- even on their busiest days. On my most recent visit to Lorca I was greeted by no one. It was an online order (that wasn't fully completed) and absolutely no one checked in with me or made sure I got my full order. I checked my bag in my car to see that my order wasn't completed and returned to the shop. I waited in line for someone to wait on me and absolutely NO ONE glanced my way. I thought the staff was busy...until a customer walked in after me and not only were they greeted with a sunny smile and a robust "HELLO!"- they were also asked what they'd like to order. Another customer who had also placed an online order was not only greeted but they were asked if they'd like to order something else while they waited. I guess I must have had my invisible loungewear on that day. I had to interrupt this conversation to ask where the rest of my order was. Not only did people who came in after me leave before me, they were also given the utmost attention and service. It's really not that hard to ask a paying customer what they're waiting on. An apology would have also been nice (I should not have had to wait around and ask for the rest of my order as other drinks were made ahead of mine) and it would have been nice if there was a little more attention to detail and service. We're in the middle of a pandemic and where I spend my money matters. It's been a pleasure supporting local businesses during this pandemic because my community and helping businesses I love keep their doors open has been important to me. Just had both the fall speciality coffees - the autumn spiced latte and the maple walnut latte - both fantastic! Could taste the notes of flavor without having the insanely sweet syrupy taste that you'd get in your large coffee chains. They also have online ordering so you can order ahead and pick up which is especially helpful in these covid times. Have a nice outdoor patio in the back and a couple of tables out front if you'd like to stay and enjoy your coffee. The staff does a fantastic job keeping both the online and in person order lines moving so that there is no crowding in the store. Great service and great coffee! read more

The coffee here is good. They have a decent looking food menu and pastries which I did not try because I wasn't hungry. The shop is clean and has a nice ambiance. I ordered a cappuccino. It was a good cappuccino. The problem is there are good coffee shops with good cappuccinos everywhere. What sets a coffee shop apart for me is the service and the people working there. No one greeted me when I walked in l. that's fine people are busy that's okay (they weren't that busy). When I walked upto the cash register the employee looked at me straight faced and didn't say anything. When I ordered all I was asked was if I wanted anything else? No thank you, no goodbye. A robot can give better service. Even after receiving my drink I wasn't thanked or anything. Very few places do I expect a little human courtesy but when I spend $6 on a cup of coffee a hello and thank you would be nice. I can get coffee at the gas station for $2 and usually get a hello. This is such a charming little coffee shop! little baked goods to choose from, sandwiches, and even little gifts to lure your other caf-curious friends. Churros aren't your usual sugar packed churros from fairs and carnivals but I think if they were, you would not be able to enjoy their dipping sauces that they have for you to choose from. So far my favorite is Dulce de Lece. They've Mexican chocolate and Nutella from what I remember. To drink, I had their seasonal marzipan latte and I have been successfully hooked. 2 espresso shots milk and almond syrup. This place used to be my favorite place to stop in for a coffee and occasionally some churros. I say "used to" because the warm and welcoming vibe I used to get before they decided to expand is no longer there. Instead, now the employees openly express disdain, attitude and indifference when customers walk in. Certain employees are just outright rude and snarky (I'm talking about YOU Mr. Bolo Tie). Like just straight up nasty and condescending. My other issue with this place is that seems like the employees in general have all gotten VERY comfortable with this practice of straight up denying people churros if they don't feel like making them... I've been denied churros multiple times now, to the point where I won't stop in here because I KNOW that my chances of being told they're "no longer being served" is very high. I always get the same excuse: "Oh they JUST turned the frier off..." I understand needing to shut off the frier a little early to give it time to cool off so it can be cleaned, but I find it absurd that I've been denied pretty much the only other thing this place is known for at like 4pm on multiple occasions. I mean, just today I went in to test this theory and asked "are you guys still making churros?" then watched as the cashier spoke to the person in the back and asked them the question, to which they paused and thought and then shook their head no. This all happened in plain sight. I mean, what kind of business practice is that? You offer something on the menu and yet the employees have the liberty to decide whether or not they want to make it?
