Salvation Army Thrift Store

Visited this store on Saturday and found it to be somewhat clean but very disorganized…read more Shelves with housewares and misc looks like someone just threw them on shelves so can't really look through items for fear off everything falling off shelf. Clothes are so packed tight on racks that when you take one garment off to look at it, a couple more garments come off with it.. Also says sorted by size especially pants but while looking through size 10s, also found sizes 2,4and 6 amongst them. Forgot looking for towels or sheets, there just thrown on shelf. Some were neatly folded but rest of stuff just thrown on. Doesn't seem like they take pride in working there. Also, PLEASE Check your receipts BEFORE leaving store, as I got home and looked at mine and was charged an extra $2.00. I also went one time and got charged for 15 items when I only purchased 12, and I called the store up immediately and explained what happened and that I had the tags to prove it and they told me they would give me a credit next time I shopped there, and I brought the tags with me and they never gave me the credit.

For what it is, it's a place with great deals for most things and I don't expect concierge service wherever I go to shop because that's uncouth & low rent IMO. People are tired and stressed and I can relate, so if there's some iffy service depending on who's manning the register....whatever (the little old lady who loves to collect fabrics is a delight). The bargains are worth it since LISTEN way overcharges for the same kinds of product.

Maynard House - THE DIRTY DIRTY PART OF THE BATHROOM, just gross hair & filth!! ENLARGE IT!!

That is approaching what you can get hotels for through the Safe Stay program at D-H. We chose to stay at Maynard House, so you know, we take the chaff with the grain. We drove up in a blinding snowstorm after driving 2+ hours. Then I remembered that they will only take cash. So back on the road to find an ATM. We found lots of banks, but no ATMs until *violins playing* I saw an Irving. I got the necessary cash and returned. Meantime, the person at MH called and asked if we had pulled into the driveway. We got back to MH, then I realized that checking in would take a while. We learned how to open a door. We learned we had to park away from all of the other cars in the lot because the plow guy would be there early. He wasn't there before 8:30 am. We learned that we could not eat in the rooms or the kitchen, but wait, yes we could since COVID shut the public areas. We also learned not to ask questions, not to crack jokes and not to think for ourselves. I do appreciate that the facility was available for us, but it would have been nice to have gotten a little update on where extra blankets and pillows were. We wound up opening the windows as the heat was blasting. I used my ancient college secret of putting sodas on the sill to cool them down. Luckily we don't get caught.

To THINK, they knew I was to return there after my surgery and TRUST ME, I could have died from getting an infection from the filth! They knew ahead of time all about my health issues, that I needed a walker and they stuck me and my dear friend in the filthy BASEMENT!!!! I was PROMISED WE WOULD BE ON THE FIRST FLOOR. A BASEMENT IS NOT THE FIRST FLOOR!! I kept jamming my foot on this plastic piece under the leg of the bed. When I asked the manager, Ann? She casually said "oh those are bed bug cups, & she added that's the way of the world!" ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? The heat did not work only partly, and if there had been a fire? I could not of gotten out! I do not believe their very steep stairs are even up to code!!!! AND I CANNOT CLIMB STAIRS!!!! IN front of each bedroom door? They built up wooden blocks so the door might keep a draft out??? IT LOOKED LIKE A THREE YESR OLD TRIED TO BUILD BLOCKS AND DADDY HELPED WITH THE NAILING OF THAT MESS!! YOU COULD NOT KEEP YOUR BELONGINGS SAFE BECAUSE THE DOORS DID NOT LOCK IF YOU LEFT!!!!!I have to continue to heal from my surgery, BUT I AM NOT DONE RINGING THE ALARM. I called the police to ask, were me and my friend in a homeless shelter?? A drug recovery house. We were both afraid to fall asleep. It was simply GROSS! They mislead people. I shall continue on calling and informing not only the correct officials, BUT the public needs to know, just STAY AWAY!! They promised an onsite emergency worker and all you see is a permanent resident roaming around yackkng and yacking to/at the guests. There is an extensive menu for a Cafe of this nature , including many different types of coffees, pastries, and crapes. The crêpes options range from sweet to savory. I've tried both and can recommend them without reservation. If you want some good coffee, good food, good atmosphere, and lots of other amenities, choose The Freedom Cafe and put your money where your mouth is. It's a good cause, there's nothing to lose and everything to gain by dropping a few bucks here.

All of the workers are very laidback and kind - I love their monthly specials and that they serve their in house items in mugs and glasses. Huge applause for their grilled muffins, chai lattes, and raspberry chocolate crepes. LOVE the mission behind this place also, if you're in the neighborhood and you're spending the money anyways, why not do it somewhere with a purpose? 5 stars, no notes.
